Thumbs twiddled as she waited for her next date, her patience apparently finding itself outmatched by her nervousness. It showed too, no masks for facades hiding how she felt. But, was there really anything to be nervous about? Lia was usually an extremely confident person, but not when it came to this sort of situation…

Her nerves proved themselves to be the appropriate response when she saw who was approaching the table. See, as a member of the Elite Four, Katherine Fairburne was known by the people of Hoenn, but even if she hadn’t been, there was something about her that made her…as beautiful as she was intimidating.

A deep breath and a smile, soft and gentle. ”Hey! I’m Amelia, nice to meet you.” She offered a hand for her to shake, her Comfey excitedly twirling in the air in greeting.

Her steps, although ever so slightly slower than before, maintain the same finesse one would expect from a model on the runway. Her catwalk remains unmatched even under the influence of two martini glasses.

And although her walk doesn’t reveal that she’s slightly intoxicated, the subtle blush that stains her cheeks does. There’s no avoiding that part of getting drunk, it seems.

”Nice to meet you too. I hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long.” They shake hands just as her Sableye eyes the twirling Comfey, its glowing eyes blinking some. “—Oh, I nearly forgot. I am Katherine,” frankly, she felt like she could skip the introduction, but one of her dates disappointed her already.

Who knows, maybe Amelia was another clueless foreigner.

“I'm a former gym leader, current member of the elite four… And between us? I’m quite bored of this event already.” It was a fair warning, wasn’t it? She figured that her date would appreciate knowing that it had nothing to do with her in particular.

Katherine Fairburne doesn’t seem like the sort of woman who would blush with ease, so it’s slightly surprising to see the rose hues colouring her cheeks. Still, Lia has no reason to suspect anything, and she sure as hell isn’t about to comment on it when having just met the Elite Four member…

”I think most people probably know who you are. Very impressive resume, though.” She chuckles, a light and amused sound despite the warmth that rises to her own cheeks.

”I’m afraid to say mine isn’t nearly as interesting… I’m a historian, used to be assistant curator at Slateport’s museum, and now I’m a ranger.”

A huge change in careers, but Lia doesn’t bother with explaining it. Instead, she simply smiles at Katherine.

It felt like everywhere she went, a new ranger popped up. Not that there was something inherently bad with that, but she couldn’t help but wonder if Laurence Anderson and Sénon Game’s budget for new recruits got an upgrade.

“That sounds pretty cool actually. You rangers are always up to something— or at least so I’ve been told. It’s a demanding job, isn’t it?” Much more than being an assistant curator, she figured.

”..Uh-huh. It’s hard to talk business when most people can’t offer you what you want.” The same applied for the more romantic dates, of course, but she had low expectations for those to begin with.

”Oh, it is for sure, and it probably isn’t worth the money to most people…” There’s a soft chuckle at that, pink hues colouring her cheeks, because undeniably so, just about everyone in Hoenn knows rangers don’t have the best wages out there. There’s no point in pretending like that’s not the case, right?

The inklings of a smile trace along Kat’s lips at the sound of amelia’s words. The situation in hoenn wasn’t anything to laugh at— but still, it was nice to meet people with the same perspective as hers.

“I agree. I can’t imagine pursuing a career in a field that doesn’t excite me,” after all, she was an adrenaline junkie through and through. From her first days in rocket to her short tenure as a gym leader and even an elite four member. She always craved the next thrilling experience.

Thankfully, Hoenn had plenty of those in store.

“Mm.” Too curious, huh? Oh well, it’s not like telling her would hurt anyone. Besides, if Amelia happened to stumble upon a plate… She’d now know who it rightfully belongs to.

”I don’t know if you remember this but after the war last year, some company started advertising their new explorer’s kit. For a while, they even offered trainers the opportunity to be the first to explore newly-discovered caves and tunnels.” So far, so good.

”As you can imagine, plenty of people jumped at this opportunity. And it just so happened that some of them discovered certain relics that…” a brief pause to mull over her next words, ”well, let’s just say that they’re very important to me.”

To be completely honest, when Lia had implied she wanted to ask what Katherine wanted, she hadn’t expected an actual response, much less a story. Still, it’s with interest that she listens to what the Elite Four member has to say, talk of exploring and relics lighting up just the right portions of her brain.

It’s intriguing.

It makes her want to know more.

As a historian who spent much of her career identifying and appraising relics, it makes her want to see those plates in person.

”Oh? That’s fascinating… I hope you’re able to find the rest of those plates, especially if they’re important to you. I–...”

Just as she’s about to ask another question, to explain her own experience with relics and all things of the sort, the bell dings, indicating the end of this “date” of theirs.

”That’s unfortunate…” There’s a chuckle and a soft smile, Lia then reaching into her purse to retrieve a business card. ”Well… Feel free to give me a call if you ever need a historian’s perspective on any of that. Thank you for the interesting conversation, Katherine. I enjoyed it a lot.”
