What an inconvenient pokémon to face.

The man doesn't even try to keep up his cover. An unnerving laugh is immediately followed by an order for his pokémon to attack.

Leonardo notices Rhian's choice of pokémon before making his own. Metagross had a type advantage as well. This two-versus-one fight turned three-versus-one isn't fair, but neither is trying to sneak into a League building.

Perhaps he didn't notice that Rhian's Hero copied his own pokémon's move before that Psychic. Perhaps he didn't care. The move is strong enough to deal damage even with Light Screen on.

"Let's see if you're so confident after this. Scizor. Metagross."

The metagross has an expression on meant to intimidate the opposition. A Scary Face visibly slows down the Mr. Mime's moves. It makes the act funnier, in his opinion.

"Fire."

While their trainer looks for a way to lure the pokémon closer to them and farther from the wall, metagross shoots twice. Scizor is faster and manages to get three hits in.

Both pokémon have pretty good aim, but the presence of a glass wall literally behind the Mr. Mime is cause for worry. Even with their well-aimed Bullet Punches, they need to be careful.

even meteoro's

physical attacks don't seem to be having too much of an effect on the mr. mime. it takes them almost as well as hero had taken the

psychic

attack earlier. and by almost, rhian means it. while the mimikyu took the attack like a champ due to his ability

disguise

, the mr. mime took both hits but shrugged them off like they were nothing.

rhian sits on this thought as her mimikyu creates a second shadow of himself and aims at the mr. mime with

her attention shifts to the mysterious man. he's no longer laughing, but a grin can be seen on his face. it's probably the only thing visible on his face, so it's pretty easy to spot. rhian frowns, looks back at the fight, and realizes why.

the mr. mime —what they thought to be the mr. mime— is just a decoy. a timely

The man in disguise does not look so happy anymore. Leonardo is.

Having his pokémon so close to the building was all that prevented Leonardo's own to go ham. That Substitute may have fooled him, but it would also be the Mr. Mime's ruin. Judging by the appalled expression on the man's face, he was probably counting on it to carry him to victory.

"No more tricks?"

Either that or the man was acting. Relying on a single move as strategy would be borderline naïve after all.

The man makes a sound similar to a growl at Leonardo's question.

Not counting the Light Screen that Rhian's mimikyu discovered earlier and the Reflect Leonardo suspects the Mr. Mime of summoning alongside it, which are merely meant for stalling, three other moves have been used: Psychic, Double Slap and Substitute.

it's blinding

. there's a moment during which rhian regrets not having brought out her klefki again to ensure the suspicious man didn't get away. regrets would do little at this point though. neither would her flailing arms.

in her struggle, she manages to grab onto an arm. she hopes it's leo's cause otherwise it would be very awkward. the arm doesn't pull back, and she ventures her other arm around the figure.

"unhand me at once."

the voice is clear, though somewhat distant. she figures she'd actually somehow caught their failed infiltrator in his tracks. otherwise why would he be saying such a thing? slowly, she opens her eyes.

it's the mr. mime standing in front of her. the chubby face tilts to a side, startling the young scientist-to-be. rhian lets go. as she does, she notices the mr. mime is missing a big chunk of hair. probably a result of angering her mimikyu.

a part of her hopes it stays, if only because further attempts at fleeing would surely result in casualties. she's still terrified of clowns, but it chooses not to resist. rhian lets it stand next to her for the time being.

"should we call someone now?" she asks, turning to see what the rest of the team had been up to.

No wonder he was wearing dark glasses.

Leonardo covers his eyes just in time to avoid permanent damage to his pupils. His pokémon are practically immobilized by the blinding gleam of fairy light and the culprit would be on his way.

He has no choice but to ask for his scolipede's help again. She comes out in a beam of red, but he wouldn't see that. The only thing he's able to see, way later, is the man's body. He lays on the floor, facing down and with his scolipede's front feet serving as weight on his back.

Rhian wants to call for backup, but it wouldn't be needed. The small explosion caused by her blissey's Egg Bomb earlier would have alerted the scientists inside the Space Center about the danger outside, and they would have been the ones to call for backup.

Leonardo sees the uniforms before he hears the footsteps. Whatever reasons the man had, he would get what he deserved.
