Her mother was a performer in the Ecruteak Dance Theater, like her mother before her, and her mother before her. Such was the tradition, keeping the old folklore of the tales of Lugia and Ho-oh alive through the sacred art of dance.[break][break]

Talia had followed in their footsteps, eagerly taking to the stories of these legendary deities with all the wonder and awe they inspired in her from childhood to adulthood. She trained in the harp and practised these ancient dances that had been passed on through so many before her, never questioning that this was the path that life always intended for her.[break][break]

And then war came, and with it, a shattering of innocence.[break][break]

Gone was the safety of Ecruteak City and its lofty towers, familiar faces, and long-agreed upon traditions; her mother stayed to fight, and it was a fight she never won. Replacing Taila's old home and family, now, was the new region of Hoenn: her role now that of a refugee, seeking a way to find peace in a world that seemed increasingly determined to fracture and dissolve.[break][break]

The Pokemon that had been as gods before to Talia were now rendered to little more than monsters in her new home, the sacred traditions surrounding them now scoffed at as superstition. [break][break]

Light a candle in the tower and pray, indeed. Had that saved you in Johto? Had it saved anyone in Kanto?[break][break]

So she kept her faith quiet, a silent candle tended to in her heart like a single star twinkling in a jet-black sky. Only in her dance did it manifest, coming alive in performances to honour the mythical deities that had crossed sky and sea -- Ho-oh and Lugia -- as a reminder of what they stood for, and what she hoped the world would stand for again.[break][break]

But the world does not stand still, and peace is only ever temporary.[break][break]

War is coming, and this time, Talia will not run away from it.
