Although the shove isn't quite as effective as Klaus likely intended it to be, Beau is both physically and mentally caught on the back foot, retreating a step and peering unscrupulously at the distinct lack of nefarious evidence gleaned from his otherwise surefire plan to expose the other man's wrongdoing.

"What's wrong with me?!" he exclaims, indignant. "You're the one sneaking around down here with no good excuse, actin' all shifty, brah! You're shifty right now, even!" He indicates Klaus with a wave of his hand, which has the unfortunate effect of enabling him to notice Klaus' attempts at adjusting his clothing following the ill-timed...investigation.

Beau's cheeks immediately go scarlet and he drops his gaze to the floor, abandoning his inquiry in favor of crouching to collect a few miniaturized pokeballs that rolled free of his grip in the scuffle. One has skittered over to a Magikarp flopping on the floor, the fish attempting to chew on it. Beau carefully tosses a ball of his own, capturing the fish before collecting Klaus' errant property.

Coming to his feet, Beau extends a large, closed fist toward Klaus, proffering the missing pokeballs, though his gaze is resolutely turned up and away as though he's attempting to look anywhere but directly at the other man, cheeks still flushed. "Look," he mumbles, "Let's just find our way out of here an' maybe we can get off to a better start when we're not in the middle of Spookytown, okay?"

A sharp, white-hot spike of embarrassment lances through Klaus as he's caught and called out for his 'shiftiness'. Clenching his jaw shut, eyes wide, he looks abruptly away from Beau, his arms crossing over his chest in a decidedly useless attempt at self-soothing. He wants to die.

His somewhat ragged breathing audible, hands shaking despite the fists he's clenched them into, Klaus does not look at Beau again until his own pokeballs are offered. Not immediately taking them, Klaus chances a small glances towards Beau's face - upon finding the other man as steadily avoiding his gaze as he is, he finally unfolds his arms and takes back his pokeballs with shaking hands.

"Yeah whatever. Fine," Klaus wheezes out softly. He'll show the dumb idiot the exit and just go home. Today was a resounding wash at this point. He stoops to retrieve his Litwick.

Pointedly not looking Beau in the eyes, Klaus pushes past the man, giving Beau's elbow a light tug to follow after him, and storms down the rickety hallways. Turning a corner reveals a Cursola blocking the path. Lustig swiftly attacks with a Curse and Night Shade without directives, and Klaus throws a pokeball shortly thereafter.

"This way." His voice is tight, face and neck still a brilliant scarlet as he leads the way to the exit.

Resolutely determined to not dig himself a hole any deeper than he's already managed, Beau allows himself to be tugged in the proper direction, following Klaus with his hands in his pockets and beckoning Torben to follow with a surreptitious jerk of his head. "Look," he offers after a too-long stretch of silence, "You really gotta be careful down here by yourself. I know," he continues before Klaus can engage, lifting his hands defensively, "It's not my business, but if it hadn't been me you ran into it coulda been a gang or worse, brah," he mutters.

As they round the corner, Beau's features flash violet as the Litwick dispatches the Cursola with methodical swiftness, and he sighs. "And I'm sorry for stickin' my hands in your pockets, that was uncalled for." He nods, having thoroughly cleared the air to his satisfaction. A brief pause, as he continues to ruminate, and a Barraskewda swims into view, prompting him to point at the aquatic pokemon. Torben sends it belly-up with a Night Slash, and he tosses a pokeball easily, snapping his fingers as he recognizes an enormously valid point to the conversation. "Even if you're the one that told me to do it, really. Sorry." There. All better.

Klaus glances over his shoulder as Beau breaks the silence, the venomous "Fuck you" dying in his throat when something akin to concern is expressed for his well-being. He huffs audibly instead, debating the merits of informing Beau how easy it is to drown a man before settling on silence.

He hopes the little chat is over with - but of course he has no such luck.

Instead, Klaus's cheeks heat further as Beau draws attention to their unfortunate game of hide and seek. His clenched fists shaking with anger and embarrassment, he abruptly stops and rounds on Beau after he sets the Litwick down once more. Without a second thought he signs rapidly, his hands cutting through the air with decided anger, <<Just shut the fuck up. I can take care of myself, I don't need a babysitter and have been down here more times than I can count.>>

<<And the next time you think about rummaging through someone's pockets fucking DON'T. What the fuck is wrong with you?>>

His chest heaving as he glares up Beau, Klaus practically trembles with frustration. It's then he notices something slowly phasing up through the floor, the movement drawing his attention away from Beau to the manifesting Golurk now reaching towards the pair. Klaus roughly grabs Beau's arm without warning, jerking him to the side and out of the way before he signs quickly to his Litwick, <<Flash fire.>> He then presses backwards to give the pokemon room, roughly shoving himself against Beau in his haste to get out of the way. As Klaus directs his Litwick via signing, his hands moving to spell out directives for the little candle pokemon who seems quite comfortable with his trainer's silence, the battle is soon over and a pokeball thrown to catch the offending ghost.

His chest heaving out a sigh, Klaus stalks over to retrieve his pokeball and signs roughly to Beau <<Let's go>> without a second thought, his Litwick picked up again.

Beau wisely falls to silence after his entirely reasonable handling of the situation, only to skid to a halt mid-step as the other man whirls on him, bringing his hands up defensively in an automatic reflex. "Whoa, what?"

The alarm written across his features rapidly morphs to deep and abiding bewilderment as Klaus thoroughly and verbosely signs his frustrations, his eyes flicking this way and that as he attempts to keep up with the movements. "Dude, what? Damn, I knew I should have paid more attention to this class," he mumbles, almost to himself. "Shut up, I can go..." he begins, trying to keep up with the other man's increasingly rapid signs.

After a moment, Beau cants his head to the side, lost. "You came down here for a baby? Brah, you look too young to have a baby. You put stuff in your pockets...and you keep making that one sign, does that mean you wanna fu-"

His attempt at keeping up with Klaus' invective is derailed by a Tentacruel lunging through a doorway, absent several tentacles and bleeding green ichor onto the steel flooring from its previous encounter with Torben. As it lunges for Klaus, Beau hollers, shouldering around the smaller man and spreading his arms as though to ward off the attack.

Torben is faster still, launching himself over the two men and landing a Hammer Arm on the crown of the Tentacruel's body that sends it crumpling to the ground, tentacles flailing and spattering drops of acid-green viscera up the walls. The Pangoro follows up with a vicious swipe of his claws in a Night Slash that sends the aquatic pokemon slithering off into the darkness, even more worse for the wear than before.

As Torben takes off after the Tentacruel to presumably finish the job once and for all, Beau turns around and takes hold of Klaus' shoulders lightly, his usually light expression remarkably serious as he sweeps an assessing gaze across the other man's frame. "You alright?" he inquires quietly. "Did that thing get you with any of the, uh, juice?"

His face still set in a scowl, Klaus holds up abruptly as he realizes Beau seems to actually follow his signed words, only to pull an expression of utmost exasperation at the mention of a damn baby. Of course Beau isn't fluent, why would anyone be fluent. Bitter now, all thoughts immediately flee his mind at the sudden appearance of the Tentacruel once more, and he yelps in shock. Pushing away from the the writhing tentacles and back against Beau, the taller man is soon in front of of Klaus to ward off any attack; as Beau and his Pangoro occupy themselves with the Tentacruel, Klaus notes the shell of a Shedinja appear.

Gritting his teeth, he lightly taps his Litwick who launches a Fire Spin at the bug before it can attack the group. A pokeball soon follows in an effort to keep the Shedinja occupied and out of the fight - that's all Klaus needed was for Beau to look at the hole in the thing's back and die. Today was bad enough as it was.

He soon exhales softly as the chaos of the fight settles, only to find himself staring up at Beau as he finds his shoulders clasped. A blush immediately flares across Klaus's skin, and he glances away, his hand lifting to sign <<Yes>> followed by a strangled, barely audible, "I'm fine." Then, even softer, "Thanks." Klaus chances a look back up to Beau, doing his best not to note their closeness, or how if he just leaned up a bit and tilted his head -

A bout of nervous, flighty laughter suddenly spills from Klaus's lips. He jerks back from Beau's grip abruptly, stepping around the man as he lets out a strangled, "We're almost outside."

He grips his Litwick tighter to his chest. This day needs to end.

"Okay, alright," Beau murmurs. "That's good." His gaze meets Klaus' directly, and for a moment he's struck with the completely-gonna-get-him-in-trouble urge to bridge the short distance between them and - well, that's what heroes do, right? Beat the bad guy, rescue the love interest, live happily ever after with the damsel. Though, it has to be said, Klaus is anything but a damsel.

The nervous laughter takes him off guard only slightly, though the pulling away he fully expected. The guy had been through a lot in the past ten minutes, Beau figures it's only natural he'd be showing a little cabin fever. Quelling his feelings of - well, whatever-they-are - he slaps a goofy smile on his face and nods, following along as Klaus takes the lead once more. "Yeah, alright! I dunno about you, but I've seen enough steel to last me a year, you feel me?"

As they move into the next segment of the hallway, Torben reappears, alerting Beau to his presence with a low growl. His paws are stained with green ichor, and a tenacious Arrokuda dangles from his forearm, pikelike teeth sunk deep into the black fur of the Pangoro's arm without having drawn blood.

"Whoa, little dude, rude," Beau quips, tossing a pokeball at the Arrokuda. His aim is off, but Torben adjusts the position of his arm to put the fish directly in the ball's path, and it vanishes in a flare of red light. Satisfied, the ursine pokémon smooths down the fur of his arms before falling into step behind the remaining trio as they continue to ascend.

"Not presently," Klaus grumbles inaudibly through gritted teeth. Lost in his racing thoughts, Klaus barely notices as the shadows around him draw closer and closer until he turns a corner and is faced with utter darkness. There he pauses, his brow furrowed in confusion before the source of the trouble reveals itself; a pair of luminous eyes hang in the air, the faint outline of a Haunter's hands soon manifest.

"Fuck," snarls Klaus, his hand lightly tapping his Litwick. A Fire Spin followed by an Inferno sends the ghost howling in pain, and a pokeball is tossed to rid the area of the menace.

With that accomplished Klaus swiftly ascends the last level of the decrepit research facility, the sunlight brilliant when he steps into the light. The young man nonetheless barely pauses, his hand going to retrieve a pokeball to release his Lapras into the nearby water. Not looking back, Klaus gives a single wave goodbye before he's atop his Lapras's back and cutting through the water away from Beau.

It's not until he's a good nautical mile away that Klaus's expression falls into exasperation, panic, and bewilderment.
