big open spaces on verdanturf, alongside the aesthetic of flower fields and green meadows, make it the perfect place for traveling funfairs to set up shop and establish rides that normally wouldn't be found on such a town.

multiple games were set up, much like the ones found on slateport whenever a big festival is held. besides those attractions, food stalls and other rides find traction. the centerpiece, however, was the ferris wheel.

kyle and noah eventually find their way to a seat of the ride. as they enter, kyle feels a hot sensation as he's left in a small, confined room with noah alone. it's not a new experience, but each time, he just feels light inside.

"t-this is our second time doing this. it shouldn't feel this exciting, you know? d-do you feel the same?" he asks.

crossing his arms, smug shape to the way he swings head all knowingly. like some god preaching commandments to the draconids.

"it's like destiny. we're returning to the scene of the crime."

the uneasiness is lifted away the moment the car moves and leaving them with their own privacy. he only wonders now if the windows are tinted from the outside. he hopes it is.

at least he's alone with noah now.

"what crime are we investigating, detective?"

stuck in a confined space with noah, for better or for worse, kyle relishes in the moment. he finally relaxes, reclining down to the rigid, plastic seats the ride has to offer.

slouched, he opens his mouth again. "are we looking at the view or something once we're at the top?" he's not sure of what to say, but it's his attempt at flirting.

"the crime?" noah's lip curls. through the noir facade, the colour stain of his smile slips. "public disturbance. we got a noise complaint."

finally, the laughs breaks through. he leans in close, hand grabbing the other's as the ferris wheel lurches for another notch on the rotation. the sky ahead is dotted with taillow.

"the top's supposed to give the best view." noah says. he pauses- eyes like amusement lights. "i coulda made a cheesy joke about you being like, the best view or something, but i stopped myself for both of our sakes."

"good," he responds to noah with lighthearted contempt. "we're already doing this weird cheesy cop roleplay anyways."

with noah holding his hand, kyle jolts awake. he stops slouching, finally sitting upright on a ride where balance dictates one's motion sickness. slowly, he inches closer to noah.

as soon as he's beside him, his arm moves across his shoulder, bringing along noah's hand to the other side of his torso where it dangles in front of him in a weird loop.

"what else are we supposed to do in here besides flirting?"

kyle breaks the lapse of silence with an inquiry.

"okay, no cop roleplay. you're off work anyway."

noah settles into kyle's shape, nestled in by the frame of their arms. the rocking of their ferris wheel car nudges away gaps into warm points of touch.

"don't need to force anything, man. 'sides it's okay if it's quiet y'know? nothing awkward about that." noah says. "i can ask you about the aqua initiative, but a lotta that stuff is a secret, right?"

he peers at kyle, discouraged perhaps- if not feigned for the purpose of eliciting reaction.

noah's warmth fills him as he squeezes him back when he positions himself where kyle would have wanted him to be. he settles with a soft smile, satisfied with the comfy vibes.

"i could break protocol," he humors, chuckling, "but i don't listen much to the stuff they talk about so i won't be able to share the spoiler-y stuff."

there's a lump on his throat that forms when the conversation enters that territory. he's been trying to avoid it for the entire time, not wanting to sour any moments they have with worry. noah wasn't bringing it up, so he figured he shouldn't.

this was his opening though.

"speaking of aqua, the next time we get into something together like sootopolis again, i promise to not mind my own business."

it was a major flaw he had that he never bothered fixing, despite being aware of it, since it did not affect him much until then.

at kyle's supposed lack of listening, noah laughs. he wonders what kyle was like as a student- what kind of report comments he had as a child. sometimes, he wonders if it's a facade to mask startling cunning.

"aw, man. it's alright." noah's smile is weak. across his body, he feels the flaring echoes of pain striking across his limbs like a barbed storm. "you gotta do what you gotta do, so... y'know... like, i don't wanna slow you down."

noah maintains his grin. holds it as he looks ahead through the car's thick, scratched up window.

"i can handle things on my own anyway."

kyle doesn't say anything for a bit. his head looks down as he twiddles his thumbs around.

"fine. you can have the sexy bodyguard image between the two of us."

with his head hanging low, he turns to face noah. his expression still makes him appear troubled, though the mischief in the tone of his words say otherwise.

a smirk breaks out from his lips.

"let's just hope that your little speech is going to stop me when it happens next time.."
