The small bar in Upper Slateport is crowded enough on a Saturday night. On karaoke night, it becomes an entirely different beast. A maelstrom of slurred singing, tone deafness, and brawls over who gets to go next— but somehow, the energy is infectious. Intoxicating! Or maybe that's just the free flowing drinks.[break][break]

she hasn't seen him since the incident. she'd definitely still recognize him. he looks older, more mature, but the same young spirit still lives on inside him.[break][break]

so he grabs another mic and joins her.

The call of his name resounds through the microphone and echoes around the room. A heavy flush darkens her cheeks as she moves on with the next stanza of her song, though her eyes remain glued to the young man as he wanders towards the stage.[break][break]

She does still recognize him. But there's something different about him that, for a moment, she can't put a finger on. Did he get a haircut? Has he been working out? The lines of his face are sharper now; more man than boy. It suits him.[break][break]

A little side-step allows him room next to her, and the playful bump of her shoulder serves as a greeting. "I didn't think this was your style," she whispers during an instrumental break, "This isn't a duet, you know!"[break][break]

It’s not an anime theme this time, so she’s a bit out of her depth. And Luka’s singing voice isn’t anything spectacular; pretty, sure, but too soft and too hesitant, like a fledgling bird. But she still does her best to belt along with Danny…as he sings Danny’s part. Hah.[break][break]

luka's six tequila shots versus danny's six glasses of beer. yeah, she definitely has him beat here.[break][break]

danny's singing voice isn't much of a singing voice, but it does the song enough justice to not sound atrocious. it doesn't matter much anyways as the main point here is to have fun with his friend.[break][break]

so he sings danny's part, following along like a young john travolta.[break][break]

when it's over, he's pulling her into a hug as the crowd (what little of it in the bar) applauds them off stage.[break][break]

She squeals as Danny pulls her into a hug and happily returns it, arms tight around her neck in an embrace she had only dreamt about as a younger girl. This time around, she feels a little more comfortable being intimate— boundaries might have been set, but alcohol is a strong inhibitor.[break][break]

Luka squirms around in his arms until she's facing him, putting just enough distance between them that she can reach up and cup his face. "You look so different, by the way!" she shouts over the sounds of the next song playing. "Good different...but different! What happened?"

"They're around here, I think...it's like, um. A work thing though, y'know?" Luka blanches. "Wait, maybe I shouldn't have sung an anime theme in front of them..."

The lines are a little blurry. At least, more than they should be.[break][break]

But the way she pinches him is more like a grandma than a lover...so that's good, right? Maybe under the dim lights of the bar, with alcohol buzzing warmly through her veins, she's reminiscing a little about the past, and how he'd never felt so real and alive under her palms when they were actually together. She wants to savor this moment in honor of the girl she once was; the person that Danny used to know.[break][break]

That's really all it is for now, because that's all it can be. Past relationships still haunt her in the present, like ghosts do. Luka really is just bad at letting go.[break][break]

But she offers an easy smile and takes his hands, offering a friendly squeeze and nothing more. "Sure! A drink sounds great! Let me buy you a round, okay?"
