Mt. Chimney was an excellent place to go to see the stars. A short hike from Lavaridge Town and Raine found herself all by her lonesome. Above, a blanket of stars stretched for as far as the eye could see, interspersed only by the sweeping black cloud of Algernon’s form as he surveyed the surrounding area. Behind were the laborious, heavy steps of Titania, her Trevenant, as the Elder Tree carted Raine’s telescope and other heavy gear.

It was a warm early spring night and Raine inhaled a deep breath of mountain air; it smelled like rock, and warmth, and Hoenn. Despite her desire to experience first hand the strange happenings of the time-space warps that seemed to be randomly occurring around the region, she found the quiet night peaceful. It wouldn’t be so bad to have an easy go of it, if only for a moment.

The chirping of night insects melded melodically with Algernon’s rhythmic hoots; Raine sat down on the mountain side, boots dangling off a low cliff, and ran her fingers through her hair, braiding the strands as Titania went about gently setting up her stargazing gear.

[break][break] it reminds jayden of the night of the soiree, which seems a lifetime as far away as any — away from the death of a long-lived comrade, or distortions and magic, of a home that he was only beginning to get back to. jayden finds his feet leading him towards route 112, with no one to accompany him.

[break][break] at least, that's what it seemed like, until alako - his shiny eevee - bounded forward on eager paws. despite jayden's click of disapproval, the pokemon bounds towards @raine.

[break][break] he butts his head against her arm by way of greeting, waving his tail at her with eyes shining like the stars behind him.

[break][break] jayden sighs.

[break][break] "sorry about him —" he starts, frowning at the other. "alako, come." the eevee pouts at jayden, and then back at the pretty girl, as if pleading for her to save him.

Raine was so swallowed up by the stars and the process of braiding her hair that she honestly didn’t notice Jayden and his Eevee until the little creature was nudging her arm. “Oh?” she said, startling only slightly, before her face broke into a big smile.

“It’s no problem,” Raine says, picking the little Eevee up and pulling it onto her lap; above them, Algernon comes to nest in Titania’s boughs, looking over the newcomer with watchful eyes. “Are you out stargazing, too?” she asks, glancing up at Jayden.

There’s a distant, low groaning, like the expansion of metal, and a nearby pile of earth shifts as a sleeping Camerupt lifts to its ponderous feet, disturbed by the action. Algernon, quick to note the threat, lifts off and dispatches it with a quick hypnosis; Raine collects it in a Pokeball before its heavy body can hit the ground.

[break][break] for more reasons than one, he liked the night. the silence of it all comforted him, in ways that were incomparable to most other things. in the daylight, there were expectations and expectations placed upon him, weighing him down like chains.

[break][break] in the distance, there was a flicker of a shadow and his gaze shifted towards the sight of a burning monster in the shape of a wild emboar. midna materialized into view moments later, paralyzing the pokemon with shockwave first before following up with a sucker punch to the jaw. moments later, a pokeball was tossed.

[break][break] jayden pauses as he collects the pokeball and then turns to @raine. "what about you? have you been here long?"

[break][break] alako butts his head affectionately against her, nuzzling her neck.

Raine smiled and tossed her braid over her shoulder. Letting her head tilt back, she gazed up at the night sky. “It is relaxing, isn’t it,” she said, picking out the stars and constellations she knew and always came back to. Like coming home. “The peace and quiet. The certainty.”

Nearby, Algernon noted a passing Hariyama. The sound of slicing was sharp, quick, and pointed, and soon the Fighting-type was neutralized with an air slash. Raine stood, stretching her legs, and walked closer to the downed beast before catching it in a Pokeball, still cradling Jayden’s Eevee in the crook of one arm.

“In Hoenn, or on this mountainside?” she asks, stepping up to him and offering his Pokemon back.

[attr="class","jayden"] a combusken races across the ground far-away. another one of midna's prey. this time she aims a gunk shot followed by a shockwave, a mixture of violet and sunlight splattering away at the grass.

[break][break] as alako is carried away, he doesn't seem to be bothered. in fact, he gets even more comfortable snuggling in the crook of this new trainer's arm. it's a bit of a disappointment when he's returned to jayden - not that he dislikes the boy, but the girl was cute and nice to him.

[break][break] jayden takes the pokemon in his arms, allowing the pokemon to climb atop his shoulder. a rare thing.

[break][break] "both," jayden says. "i've only just arrived to hoenn myself." again, but it's not like she needs to know that.

It’s such a beautiful night that even the putrid scent of gunk shot on the cool breeze can’t ruin it. “Aww,” she coos, reaching up to gently tweak the little Eevee’s cheek.

As to Jayden’s question… “A few weeks and yet, an eternity, it seems.” She turns back to her telescope, golden hair sliding over her shoulders. “Not to be unnecessarily cryptic. Hoenn’s been a key player at the top of my studies for quite some time.”

Algernon spooks out a spying Mienfoo, and quickly drops it with hypnosis.
[break][break]
“...but I’ve only just relocated here. I’m from Hearthome, originally.” After tossing a Pokeball, she bends, slightly, to peer through her telescope’s eyepiece. Algernon brings the sphere back to her, the most reliable delivery system.

"ah. are you an astrologist?" he doesn't know much about the stars himself, but it does remind him of the events of the star soiree.

[break][break] electricity sparks in the distance as midna finds yet another prey for the evening. this time, it's a small lizard skittering amongst the undergrowth. this time, the charmander seems to at least attempt a fight, throwing a dragon rage towards the banette's way.

[break][break] he nods, watching as she peers into her instrument.

[break][break] with a surge, midna lands a sucker punch at the charmander's face. a pokeball is tossed therafter.

[break][break] it reminded him of his trek through meteor falls with @octavia. he wonders what she would've thought of them. was she still alive?

[break][break] a clash of light and sound alert behind him as his banette once again engaged in battle with a wild pokemon. she lets out a little giggle as sirfetch'd attempts to SLAM her, but her ghostly form swerves right through him. her eyes glow with the power of a CURSE, before she ends him with a SUCKER PUNCH.

[break][break] aimlessly, a pokeball is thrown their way.

[break][break] it's not long at all before idle chitchatter turns into silence, as they enjoy the evening's starlight.
