Deep in the petalburg woods, there was said to have a small blossom of hoenn's newest quirk: crystal flowers. Penelope had debated for bit whether it was worth it to catch a glimpse or not, and well, her money-hungry side eventually overcame her doubts.

But, if she was going to do this, she was not going to do it alone.

That's where Penelope's newest quirk fitted into this.

'You near by yet?' She tapped at her phone, back hovering a inch off an old oak tree. It had originally felt silly to dress up for this, and yet, here she was now, feeling solace in her appearance.

Wearing a yellow sundress with pink floral patterns and a small sunhat, the woman waited restlessly for her date to arrive.

pulling out his phone, he glosses over the text as he approaches the old oak tree dressed in his running attire.

by sheer luck, she had texted him right as he was about to start his run, so he shows up still fresh and clean and not sweaty at all.

"so impatient, penny."

only now does his gaze flick up. he blinks, staring at her sundress and at her.

"holy shit."

His voice pulled her in like a magnet.

She spun around to face him, smiling. Even though his attire wasn't as suave as the first night they met, she couldn't help but feel a similar tinge of excitement.

"I hope I wasn't interrupting anything important."

after another moment of looking at her dress, his gaze lifts to find hers, chuckling.

"You are," She teased, a soft huff of air shooting out from nose. "And thank you. I'm glad to know it's working."

Taking a step away from the tree, she spun around on her heels towards the open path, then gestured Cian over. They didn't have all the time in the world.

"C'mon."

As they strode into friendly-looking forest, Penelope's arms hung loosely at her sides, lightly swinging forward with each step. Part her -- the idiotic flustered teen girl part of her -- wondered if it was appropriate go for his hand, while another part of her brain -- the more mature, level-headed side -- barked at her to resist.

Typically, such a meager level of touch wouldn't even cross her mind as a question, but when it came to this, to him, she couldn't help but intently mull it over.

"Thanks for coming out, by the way. I really didn't want to come out here alone. Buddy of mine went out to see some a week ago and came back with scars all over his arm -- a pack of mightyenas, apparently. "

but cian's sure that won't happen to them today. he has enough pokemon on him to defend against a swarm or two. where does he keep his pokeballs, however? that's an age-old question people have been trying to figure out.

"i think i saw these flowers with my brother the other day. we were at the beach and they were floating around in the water."

but the glow could've been mistaken for caden maher's pale ass body. man really needs to get out of the hospital more.

as they walk, cian finds her hand, solving her internal debate for her.

"Mhm," She nodded, "So I'm counting on you for protection."

The last thing she wanted to do was come back to work with a half-chewed up arm.

"Huh."

They were even showing up near the beaches? She couldn't help but feel herself drawing closer to the realm of curiosity with this phenomenon. What was hidden beneath those pretty petals, she wondered, and was it even worth her time?

These bubbling thoughts were swiftly curtailed, however, by Cian's hand slipping into hers.

She smiled and gave it a gentle squeeze.

"It shouldn't be too much further. Hopefully."

not sure why he's getting excited when he's already seen them before. maybe it's the company he's with today. either way, he tugs her along, approaching a small bed of crystablooms that glow in a pretty aura.

he gives her a reassuring squeeze as he peers down at them.

Once the blooms appeared within her line of sight, Penelope's excitement instantly skyrocketed.

"Oh shit, you're right," She squealed, her smile only wiggling further up her cheeks, as they both scuttled towards it.

When they got close enough, Penelope's hand mindlessly slipped from his and she knelt down beside the patch for a better look.

They were so beautiful. She couldn't help but find herself staring in awe at its dazzling petals and unique glow. It reminded her of a flower from an old fantasy novel she was once told about a long time ago.

"Yeah..."

Her voice was uncharacteristically soft. Gentle, even.

If only Evelyn were here. She would've loved to see this.

it's endearing to see her excitement bubble up and show at the sight of the crystablooms. it's cute, she's cute, and he can't help but just watch her for a while.

he's not exactly too sure but he's still fine from last time. he reaches his hand down toward one, brushing against the soft petals.

"i'm sorry to hear."

the reassuring squeeze he gives her hand is the most he can offer, really, without prying further. but it isn't his business nor does he feel it appropriate to. she'll share what she wants to share, and what she has shared is more than enough.

"i think my mom would've appreciated them as well."

his own lips pull into a small smile.

"we used to have a few freeze dried flowers in our house. my mom would get a new one every time someone close to us passed. to remember them by."
