“Yes, and here we are, at the top of the world,” she replied with the tone of voice one would use to give a toast at a party. Then again, given the general cheers surrounding them upon the fight’s conclusion was certainly a fitting backdrop for that. Apparently, the lithe and flexible man had surpassed the mountain. It was good to see, but she was still fairly certain that he had very much lived on the edge in that regard. Tripping up himself and getting properly caught by the stronger opponent likely would have spelled doom indeed. Of course she’d think so. After all, she felt much the same way about herself a lot of the time. Not that she’d complain, though. This was the life she had chosen. A life on the edge. It was truly exhilarating, so she would never forego that choice.

“As for that dumb broad? Yeah, a real piece of work. Good lay, really, but apparently she likes to suck up to fishes more than anything else,” Vio eventually noted, venting some of her frustrations. Even though her disdain for said avatar had somewhat diminished with time, she was still quite grumpy. It could likely be talked out at some point, but without that sort of contact, a woman scorned would remain that forevermore.

At least she could kind of let it go by now, switching away from the depreciative track somewhat quickly at least. “But I did notice that I am talking a lot about myself here. Guess I just wanted you to see that I am not necessarily the image I’m projecting out to the world, you know? It must be quite difficult being around me and I am somewhat trying to rein it in. I am kind of grateful you invited me to this anyway. Been a while since anyone had to anything, really.”

The top of the world looked a lot like a crappy underground arena and smelled like cheap beer, air-conditioning, and B.O, but hey. At least they weren’t dead or-- or locked up in remote cabins being forced to be Pokemon Rangers, right?

Cyg downed the last few glugs of her PBR and squeezed the can, feeling the satisfaction as it crumpled in her hand. The seats around them that weren’t celebrating were beginning to get up and leave.

“Tell us how you really feel,” Cyg joked, face a lazy smile. Then, at the proffered statement that Vio was talking a lot about herself, she shook her head, waving it away. “It’s fine. I get it. You are not what you seem. Or, as Megatron put it, you are being deceived.” She leaned back in her chair, giving the crowd a minute to disperse. “Yeah, I had a great time. Cheap entertainment goes a long way, you know.”

“Well, at least I don’t give the game away by calling myself a Decepticon,” she replied, jokingly, those old cartoons having been her only connection to society back in the day. Though she probably did not have the nerd credit to pass among real connoisseurs of the illustrated. That she’d learned a few years back already. It was seldom a good idea to try and fool those who, by definition, obsessed over something.

Not that it mattered too much. Nerds were often desperate anyhow. Something she liked to capitalize on sometimes. Not tonight, though, given that this one certainly was not your stereotypical nerd.

Violet watched the crowd disperse but felt no need to join in with them at all. Present company was more enjoyable than a swift exit. “And yes, same here. Despite how it might look, I don’t really need a lot to have fun. Especially since I mostly just enjoy people. In every way that implies.” She gave a good, hearty and genuine laugh at that.
“But yeah, that’s why I joined Rocket instead of finding myself some rich fool and live in comfort. I enjoy experiencing all sorts of things and meeting all sorts of people. Usually messing with them, too. Again, I am mildly sorry if I overdid that with you, though.”

“Fair,” Cyg said, standing up and shoving her hands in her pockets. “He always was one for the dramatics, was Megs.” When you didn’t have cable and old reruns of Transformers was the only thing on TV, you picked up on these things. Also, she loved machines.

Okay, so she really liked Transformers. So sue her.

“You do meet a lot of people in this business, huh?” Cyg mused, watching the last of the stragglers file out. She thought of Vio, but also of Mars and Elisa, people she never would’ve dreamed of rubbing knuckles with in a million years. Back when her life was normal. And boring.

“Hey, you hungry?” she said, stepping towards the exit. “It’s way late but I’m sure there’s some, like, street food around here somewhere. Something greasy. With lots of cheese. You in?”

“Well, when your job is people, you naturally end up with heaps of them,” she replied, with a chuckle. “But most of them are honestly not worth a second glance to begin with. There aren’t many that I would want to meet again without working them.” Which probably said something about Cyg, if nothing else. Vio just enjoyed the company of this one, at once reminding her of another life while also serving as a hook towards her new one. Plus, she was easy to be around. Not someone she had to put up a front with at all.

Ironically, they both had chosen this kind of life for the same reason, yet from opposite ends of the spectrum. That probably was quite a nice convening factor, if nothing else. Then, she put a finger on her chin, briefly. She’d just eaten, but a hot dog was not necessarily the most filling thing there was. “I would be up for it. But this time I am paying. I got to treat you to something too, after all.”
