Ditttos were everywhere, all of a sudden. So long had she looked for one to pay off her debt. And now that she finally had, there apparently was a bit of a secret invasion going on. Dittos assuming the form of humans, that was bad. Sure, concurrently, they were way too dumb to actually make use of that power. But what if they did develop sufficient intelligence with practice? They could impersonate heads of state, start wars, attain the keys to weapons of mass destruction and plunge the world into chaos!

Granted, that probably still wasn’t any worse than the nth legendary Pokemon going on a rampage around the region and wrecking havoc. But the thing was – this was a horror scenario that could actually be prevented. Not that she was some kind of grand altruist of course. But one had promised a reward for catching these dittoes. So, one Violet Fairbanks and her shiny Rattata had found themselves at the edge of a park where according to those scientists, a ditto was hiding in human form somewhere. Supposedly, someone else was coming to join them, so they waited. For now. That person better not be late, though.

And there they arrived. A Ditto in terrible disguise. It was time for her to j’accuse, then. “Unless, of course, they learned to overcome that issue. And to talk. After all, my partner here was supposed to be a ‘pretty woman’ according to the one I talked about this with. You seem to not be that. Mayhap you should explain yourself, first,” she replied, one hand stemmed into her side as she took an accusatory stance.

Granted, she did not actually think that this guy was a Ditto. But that meant little. She knew from experience that people could be the much more dangerous pretenders, and if she was meant to work with this one on exposing such, she would need to be able to trust them first, after all.

“Are you calling my eyes round and lifeless?” Her tone was jovial, but there was a hint of accusation in them, too. After all, she hadn’t quite put it that way when jokingly asking him that. Plus, her eyes were one of her best features. Calling them anything other than beautiful, even indirectly, was just rude by default, really.

But she was willing to forgive this one, for once. Mostly because he may well be useful still on this mission. “Either way, if I was an impostor, I would not have had the facilities to accuse you of being one. Dittoes are not that smart.”

“I shall accept this,” she replied, cheering up already that he didn’t just say no but actually added the compliment. That was all she really wanted, after all. Then, she nodded. They had at least decided that neither of them was a Ditto, meaning the real one was still around, after all.

And apparently, he already spotted a potential subject not too far away. Turning, she took a closer look. That guy did indeed look like a likely subject. “Could be. Any idea how to approach it, in case this is just the blandest salaryman the world has ever seen?”

“I guess that would be the polite thing to do,” she replied, still thinking. After all, if they were wrong and just pushed a random guy, then that would be kind of bad. On the other hand, they couldn’t just take any answer for an answer. If the Ditto truly knew how to talk, they might just let it leave altogether.

Then again, it would only be a mark against her if she did the pushing, right? “I would suggest a two-pronged approach. You go and push him, and if he gets up, I can go in, pretend to help him and try to talk to him. That way, we can cover all our bases.” And she could cover her butt. Which was always the best thing about it.
