"Just... how?" Gwyar asked his duo... er, trio, of swords, staring at the egg between them.

The sentient swords regarded him silently, simply bobbing up and down in what he could only assume was an unapologetic shrug, seemingly just as confused as he was.

Meanwhile, Raki the Riolu patted the egg gently, smiling. A new friend in the making! Maybe teacher would give him a a chance to train them!

Sighing, Gwyar simply crouched and picked up the egg and Raki both, plucking them off the ground.

"I suppose it doesn't really matter." He said, humming as he observed the little egg. "... Will a sword really be born out of this...?"

Wasn't the Honedge-line supposed to be souls trapped in weapons... or something? Apparently NOT! Also, apparently swords could just be birthed, no crafting required. Wild stuff.

Maybe he should ask an expert... wait, did he know any experts?

Just Dr. Eva Morales.

"... Let's not do that." He said wryly, his shoulders sagging as he sighed again.

He turned around, making to leave.

It was a saddening occurrence, a cruel twist of fate that this man with burning existential questions did not voice them out loud. For this woman of science may have well had the answer to said burning existential question. But, alas, he did not. And so, the words would remain unspoken regardless. It was a shame, really. But it could not be helped.

So, for the time being, there just was the mission of carrying about eggs was all there was to it. Whistling gently to herself, eggs secured in the basket she was carrying, Shizue started walking, thoughts to herself. Really, her body just moved on autopilot, as it often did when she was in that mindscape. It wasn’t too uncommon for her to look up from whatever she was doing only to wonder just how she’d gotten to a place. Menial things just kind of passed her by sometimes.

As such, she simply and subconsciously aligned with the man also currently moving this way. The one with the burning question. There was always more safety in numbers. Especially in brawny looking numbers. So, this was just the most logical thing for her to do, plain and simple.

Infinitely confident in himself, Gwyar hadn't really considered traveling in packs to his destination.

That is to say, when a young woman suddenly began walking besides him, he briefly stared at her, assuming they would soon part ways with one another.

When after 10 or so minutes of walking on the same path, they remained on the same path, he realized that her companionship would not be as brief as he had thought.

"... Uh. Hello. Apologies, young lady. I only just realized you might've wanted for us to walk together, perhaps?" He suddenly said after a moment of consideration, glancing the young woman's way. "... Well, My name's Gwyar. A pleasure."

His gaze briefly shifted down to the eggs in her possession. Obviously, she too was here to gather her eggs... right?

Gwyar wasn't really delivering eggs, he was just picking up his own, and his route happened to align with the young woman's own. Happy coincidences!

If she was carrying the basket however, she must've worked at the daycare, right...? Having been stuck inside Sootopolis for much too long, Gwyar wasn't away that even egg delivery had been expedited to random trainers. Such was Hoenn's chaotic, nonsensical economy.

"... Pardon me the odd question, but." He began to say as he held up his own egg for the woman to look at. "... Do you know if, uh... Two... swords... er."

Ah screw it.

"My Aegislash and Doublade had this when I came to pick them up. Is this actually theirs?"

“Huh?” She was called from her thoughts by a sudden address. She had expected him to talk on the phone or something at some point or another, but it felt like he was addressing her. As a young lady, no less. That was a rarity. Granted, he did look like he was older than she was. Still though, young lady was an odd one. Too formal for most people, too fancy for the rest. Odd. Still, she looked up from her thoughts. “Are we not doing that already, by definition?” They were walking, after all, together and in the same direction. Nothing other than walking together fit that.

However, he deemed it important to exchange names. “Shizue,” she simply replied, conforming to him only giving a first name. At least she assumed that it was one. It was an odd name. Sounded more like that of a Pokemon, really. But he could speak more than that name, so he clearly wasn’t one. Instead, he was an intelligent human. Just one asking odd questions.
“Of course it is theirs, if the people of the hatchery said so. Unless you have reason to presume that they are lying. But that is difficult to prove, but also unlikely. As long as the species is right, chances are that it is truly theirs. Why would you think it is not?” There is some disbelief in her voice, given that she couldn’t truly tell why he was asking that of all things.

Gwyar, for his part, simply shrugged his shoulders, as if the answer to her query was rather obvious.

"Well, because they are possessed swords." He said bluntly. "I'm no expert, but... isn't it a bit strange that two undead souls are be able to create... new life? ... As well as perfectly crafted Galarian steel, now that I think about it... Ah well, if this is how it is."

Even the egg was kinda sword shaped... The world of pokemon was truly amazing.

It was a good thing he hadn't gone for the path of a researcher (not that he had ever been given the chance to, at any rate), because this query would've probably haunted him until the end of his days.

“I mean, two human souls can create another human soul, right?” It was simple, really. If two humans could mate, it was likely two transformed humans could do as well. Especially when they were Pokemon. “Pokemon are unlike us humans. If you had coitus with a Miltank, there would be no offspring. Yet a Miltank and a Tauros can mate just fine, the offspring even being somewhat variable. Their genetic make-up is quite different to ours. Which is also how your one blade possessed by a soul can become two blades possessed by a soul only to then become one again. Using human standards of mating with Pokemon is of limited utility.”

That was some of the most coherent content she would bring to the table, really. Shizue usually kept to herself more than anything, but when it came to scientific explanations, she tended to include all she felt necessary, really. “Furthermore, Honedges are not necessarily of Galarian descent. They come in all kinds of variations these days. For their offspring, you should consider the sword itself to be more or less cosmetic and an expression of the new soul within. It is biology at the end of the day, not metallurgy.”

Gwyar listened to the woman's explanation with rapt attention, his head ocassionally tilting this way and that as this or that statement caught his attention in particular.

"Is that right?" He asked, blinking slowly as he processed the information.

On some level, he had more or less known the information she had given him, but he still found it difficult to process.

How souls alone could create new life- and have it take on a form the souls themselves had merely possessed...

Well, he understood her words, at least! Even if he couldn't quite wrap his head around the concept of Sword reproduction.

"Well then! Thank you for the explanation, young lady!" He said with a soft laugh, amused by his own ignorance. "Are you a scholar of sorts? The breadth of your understanding felt much more indepth than a that of an average daycare employee."

“I am not a liar,” she simply stated and left it at that. As a scientist, she would never claim that anything she said was 100% completely accurate and correct. It was only something she explained to the best of her knowledge and ability, something she could be wrong at either way. But Shizue, despite being many things, was not a liar. Which, admittedly, made it difficult to secretly be in Team Rocket, of course. Yet at the same time, it was reasonably doable, given that people hardly ever asked to begin with.

And even if they did, they were seldom so concise that she had to actually explain it in detail. “I am a researcher of Pokemon and their abilities,” she stated, being fully accurate while just leaving out the more dubious aspects of her work. “Though, admittedly, my knowledge in breeding is only cursory. I read a book or two. Not enough to be much of an expert.” At least talking like this made time fly faster, letting them get to their destination with a bit less boredom.

"Ah, I suppose that just goes on to show my ignorance." Gwyar said with a self-amused smile, shoulders quaking as he chuckled. "Ah- and I apologize, young lady. I did not mean to imply dishonesty on your part earlier."

Maybe he would pick a book on the subject matter once he made it back to Sootopolis.

A true knightly gentleman could discuss all subject matters and appear an expert in all of them, too.

So his father had always claimed, at any rate. Gwyar had never been able of quite pulling that act.

"But a pokemon researcher— you look so young, too. Quite impressive!" She didn't look too much older than either of his daughters! "Ah! You mentioned that breeding wasn't your expertise, but maybe you could tell me about this new virus going around? What was it called...? Pokerus, I believe?"

Young lady, once more. That still sounded somewhat odd. But it clearly was just what he called people. She didn’t really mind or care much. “No need to apologize.” She meant that as a simple fact, really. Not that she really hated being called a liar. People did that when they did not like the truth, anyway. It meant nothing. Like most words not based on scientific principles, they were just as hollow.

Though he really did put a lot of emphasis on her age, which was very slightly annoying. Mostly because she’d gotten a whole lot of that during her education. Skipping grades probably just had that kind of effect on those around her, she’d figured. People just could not comprehend genius, she’d decided. “Impressive, maybe. And yes, I have heard of it. That is in part why I visited the hatchery. I doubt that it truly is a virus, though. It seems to not be communicative in any way other than hereditary. I personally would not classify that as a virus. Though I still need a sample of my own to analyze. Maybe the structural composition is more akin to a virus after all.” She shrugged. With information that new, she really wanted to see for herself before deciding on how to interpret this.

Poor old boomer Gwyar, unable to read into the annoyance he was inflicting upon the YOUNG WOMAN.

"Hoh!" The man exclaimed as the lass explained the known mechanics of the 'virus' which might well not be a virus at all, as it turned out!

"Fascinating..." Gwyar mumbled, before glancing down at his egg with a hum, tilting his head. "If this little one happens to have the... Symbiote? Maybe I could lend it to you for study?"

He was interested in finding out more about his himself!

"Of course, I would love to be around to observe..."

Maybe they could use the Sootopolis Station's forensics lab!

A symbiote? Well, that could technically be it. But that would imply that both the host and the Pokerus benefited from the relationship. She was not quite certain of that yet, either. Plus, symbiotes tended to not be hereditary either. Neither seemed to properly encompass what was going on.

Though the offer of studying one was certainly a useful one. “If you don’t mind, certainly.” Shizue wasn’t one to say no to an offer like that. She had a feeling that the affliction might have slight differences depending on the host species, too. So, even if she got her hands on other specimen, more could be useful. Though, admittedly, this meant no vivisection. Ah, well, it happened. “Though I reckon it would be rather boring for you to watch me take samples. Whatever you prefer, really.” She shrugged, simply accepting it if he wanted to watch. Plus, they all but had arrived at the nearest settlement already. The time of parting hath all but come.

"That's quite alright." Gwyar said with a smile, tipping his head. "I reckon the results will be well worth the wait. I may even learn something while watching you work!"

A good knight knew enough on many subjects and all that junk. Are you happy now, father?

"Ah, I suppose this is were we part ways." Gwyar said as they reached the drop spot for her egg cargo, sounding disappointed.

Reaching into his chest pocket, the man fished around for a moment, before producing a card with a smile.

He produced a pen later, before scribbling his phone number upon it.

"Do give me a call! We can arrange for a meeting once the egg has hatched, yes?" He said, before he began to wave as he walked back. "Until then! A pleasure to meet you, Ms. Shizue!"
