too distracted by the map of the renfaire, he doesn't notice how it's his turn until someone's tapping him on his shoulder. he spins around almost like a lycanroc chasing its tail to look at her.[break][break]

"sorry! yeah, looks like it is."[break][break]

he spins back around to order his apple only to look over his shoulder at her.[break][break]

"would you like one as well?"

the boy in front of her is like the many others in the faire, all dressed up in ridiculous garb, so callie doesn't think twice about it. what she does, however, think twice about is the way that he spins around to meet her, reminding her of skoll when she buys a treat.

"i am, yep. it only seems fitting as i'm meant to be more giving. i think that's a trait expected of a father."[break][break]

so he looks back to the vendor, nods, and orders another for the person behind him who's not in costume. not that he judges; it's not for everyone.[break][break]

it doesn't take long before danny's stepping away with two sticks of caramel apples. he offers her one, smiling.[break][break]

"here you go, miss."

she snorts.

[break][break] either way, callie's never one to turn down a free treat. especially now that she's technically retired, and that her first paycheck hasn't come in yet. she steps out of the line, waiting, until the other returns with the free treat — her eyes light up a little at the sight. her stomach grumbles.

[break][break] "why thank you," she says, taking it from his hand and immediately taking a bite out of the center. the caramel cracks around her teeth, and she licks her lips of the sweetness. she glances at him.

[break][break] "you don't expect me to call you "father" now, do you?"

[break][break] she wasn't sure how roleplay worked.

danny, despite the aging he experienced in the distortion, is definitely still young. little do they know they're the same age; it just seems like he's younger due to his demeanor.[break][break]

he is quick to follow and bites into his own apple; the crunch is satisfying.[break][break]

"i mean it's written in the rules of the renfaire..."[break][break]

he nods, then takes another bite.[break][break]

"father danny will be fine."

"ah, the rules."

[break][break] now — she couldn't exactly argue with that, now could she?

[break][break] "you'll just have to show me that sometime, then... danny, was it?" no way was she going to call him father. she didn't even have her own father to say that too, though she wasn't sure if she would, even then.

[break][break] "well, danny, do you want to take a walk with me? i think skoll's getting anxious."

[break][break] or more like - skoll had smelled something delectable and delicious, and was whining at her ankles until she let him go. she gave him a quick glance, a slight nod, and the canine was off. callie followed a bit more slowly, looking back at DANNY HALL to see if he'd follow.

he's mid-bite when she asks him which catches him off guard. he had expected their interaction to come to an end after the apples. but now with the invitation looming in front of her, he doesn't know what to do.[break][break]

swallowing, he nods, then follows like another lycanroc.[break][break]

"skoll's really cute. very fluffy."[break][break]

he licks caramel off the side of his lips before peering over at her.[break][break]

"i, uh, didn't get your name."

she snorts. "you should see him during shedding season. he's a mess."

[break][break] plenty of people like to adopt dog pokemon, but few ever really talk about the pain in the ass they are during shedding season. he makes her apartment look like a blizzard with the way that he can shed in the spring sometimes, if he isn't groomed properly.

[break][break] "but he was really cute as a puppy. here." reaching into her phone, she shows him her phone background which is a picture of an adorable rockruff puppy with a piece of cheese slapped onto it's face, making the most hilarious confused expression.

[break][break] at his words, though, she smirks. "because i didn't give it to you." she pauses, just long enough to make it awkward, before laughing lightly. "you can call me callie. all my friends do."

literal balls of fur would roll across his apartment. shedding season is truly a challenge for dog owners alike. but it's always worth it in the end.[break][break]

he leans closer to look at her phone.[break][break]

his gushing falls short, however, when she pauses. awkwardness crawls up his neck looking to suffocate as he struggles to find the words.[break][break]

thankfully, she saves him.[break][break]

"callie," he breathes out a chuckle of relief, "cool, cool. it's very nice to meet you."[break][break]

his gaze darts away to something familiar in the distance.[break][break]

"have you ever thrown axes, callie?"

her gaze glimmers with interest. "an arcanine? do you have any pictures?"

[break][break] because hell if someone was going to keep her from seeing pictures of cute canine pokemon. or cute anything pokemon. she had folders of skoll as a baby. any other pokemon trainer worth their merit would have a hundred.

[break][break] it shouldn't be as enjoyable as it is to make him squirm - but it is. but callie isn't completely heartless. plus it isn't hard to save him. all it takes is a single word.

[break][break] "axes?" she says, looking thoughtful.

[break][break] no, ironically enough. she'd done plenty of things in her time in kanto, things that were plenty more deplorable than probably DANNY HALL was thinking, if his worst day included collecting balls of fur and dust from his fire-type.

[break][break] grinning, she holds onto his elbow.

[break][break] "let's go. i want to try."

danny has tons of pictures of his pokemon. some candid, some posed, but the majority of them look derpy as heck which is actually fitting for a trainer like danny.[break][break]

maybe he'll show it to callie after axe throwing. if she wins, of course (which is likely).[break][break]

so, they take up their spots at their axe-throwing station. a bunch of polished axes lay on the bench in front of them. ahead of them stands a target, ready to have axes thrown at it.[break][break]

"wanna bet? first one to hit the middle wins?"

callie releases her grip on DANNY HALL when they near the booth. this time, her eyes glimmer with excitement and a bit of fire. as @sole would surely know, callie was quite competitive at times.

[break][break] she smirks, once, and then turns her full attention to the game at hand.

[break][break] callie picks up one of the rubber axes even before the booth's patron has begun to explain the mechanics of the game, or try to teach her how to hold an axe. sure, she had never wielded one but that didn't mean she wanted anyone else to teach her.

[break][break] rearing her arm back, she chucks an axe. clack. it lands.

[break][break] "hell yea!" she says, turning with her arms raised for a highfive. "beat that!"

but it seems that may be the case as she hits the target on her first throw. he blinks, sharing a look of wonder with the booth patron.[break][break]

after returning her high five, he reaches for an axe, spinning it in his hand in a way only a weapons expert or a nerd would be able to (the latter in his case), and lobs it at the target.[break][break]
