“I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME,” fernando concludes, parting ways with several individuals. some of which don the signature white coat that denote their status.

a curt nod and bow of his head marks his exit as several of these people scatter off in different directions. others enter a conference room behind him, disappearing behind closed doors.

with a deep breath, fernando readies to depart. however, his eyes catch a glimpse of a familiar face. he approaches undaunted. tall, confident.

foreboding.

“ivanov,” he greets with a neutral expression.

“i wouldn’t have expected you to be visiting a place like this.”

“OH?”

with a cliff hanger like that, it’s hard for fernando to look anything but curious. while their interest and interaction have hardly aligned, the fact that alexei has confided in him once before makes it worth investigating.

“do tell.”

“AH.” he looks anything but surprised by the revelation. not that fernando often looks anything other than judgmental, scornful, or apathetic, but such subject matter should warrant shock from just about anyone.

“well, it sounds like its a sound theory. after all, we all know about ultra space and sea!hoenn now.”

a quick pause to glance around looks for a table or bench for them to settle into. he points out to a seat a couple of feet away.

“what did you want to discuss?”

“THEY HAVE,” fernando reiterates once alexei finishes his musing. fernando looks back from where he had entered, as if to annunciate his purpose for visiting.

“everyone here is hard at work trying to make that happen. that’s why i’m here, actually.”

fernando brandishes a pokeball from his belt. he knows it by heart, having assigned them in a specific order, but this one still has a sticker to denote what pokemon resides inside. it reads UB in a plain, black font.

“if we had a choice, we would prefer to launch it into ULTRA SPACE instead of SEA HOENN. and, of course, into an empty void, if possible.”

he looks at alexei expectantly, as if the fortree gym leader holds the missing piece of the puzzle.

“however, no one knows how to open a path to ULTRA SPACE or anywhere else.”

“AH.”

the missing puzzle piece! fernando almost sounds impressed when he marvels over the MEGA STONE. it looks different than some but all of them look the same in his eyes. his inability to tell plants apart bleeds into more than just flowers.

“well, ivanov, what did you have in mind?”

“NOT THAT I’M AWARE OF,” is the crestfallen resolution they both have to cope with. for the league with all its advancements has yet to find a way to pull tangible results from forms they do not understand. even MEGA EVOLUTION is not understand completely despite its prevalent use.

“ah,” fernando lets alexei’s idea simmer.

“perhaps there is a way,” the more he mulls the idea the more he gets an abstract picture. however, his idea is mere a conception. it lacks function and substance.

“how would you do it ivanov? if you had the coordinates?”

this missing piece is the most glaring.

“how would you get there?”

“AH,” comes clarity that is backed up with firm confidence. fernando has no idea how alexei knows but he’s familiar with both parties that ventured into ULTRA SPACE. how close they are to the fortree gym leader escapes him, so he can’t gauge which camp alexei falls into.

“SOLGALEO could travel to ULTRA SPACE,” fernando reveals. otherwise a more confidential piece of information, he brandishes it freely, like an olive branch, as the two rally against a mutual threat.

“unfortunately, that pokemon has been lost to the megalopolans.”

which puts them back at square one.

“any other ideas, ivanov?”
