Because, it is. Sy has lived long enough to know that money is the ultimate power. It’s why he does most of what he does. If he hadn’t hurt himself, he could’ve gotten through school on his gymnastics scholarship-- maybe even gone national. Sponsorships, celebrity. He had the charisma for it. But he had hurt himself, and all that had gone out the window.

He turns back to look at Caden across the dining table, head cocked.

“Doing what?” he asks, veil of innocence drawn over his voice, corner of his mouth quirked in a small smile.

Ah, yes, the printer for the lease, the lease printer, the lease specifically for Caden to sign. That’s why they’d come downstairs in the first place.

Sy raises one eyebrow in acknowledgment and steps across the living room and back to slide the three-page document across the table. There’s a box for Caden to sign his name, a general disclaimer for being responsible for any damages and a monthly rent cost with utility breakdown. Sy turned to one of the bookshelves to rifle through for a pen.

“It’s pretty basic. No fine print. Electricity is split ⅓-⅔ with me paying the larger half cause of all my gear.” He waves in the general direction of the TV and computer setup. “If you wanna get something fancy, like a minifridge or whatever, we might reexamine it but for now this is fair. All the other utilities are 50-50.”

He finds one and rolls it over the tabletop.

smirking at him for a heartbeat longer, caden then takes the pen and swipes it from him in a single fluid motion. seconds later, the name caden maher is printed sexily on the page.

[break][break] all of this official work feels horrible, like signing your life away on some legal-binding document. fortunately for caden, this was not the first time he'd signed his life away.

[break][break] not only rocket had a vicegrip on him, but his profession did too.

[break][break] with that done, he offers the pen back to his new sexy and muscular roommate and flashes another smile. "with that done, i suppose there's only one thing left to do." he pauses - this time for a few significant beats - before finishing.

Sy collects the papers and sticks the pen back in a little cup on a side shelf. He’ll make a copy of these and then put him in his box full of important stuff to be promptly forgotten about.

“You just say when,” he said, with a grin, “room’s open and clean. I’ll help you move. It’s a good workout.”

Hell, he'd even get pizza and beer. Why not?
