I have no idea why Hoenn is a magnet for these supernatural happenings, however I can advise you to always be ready, be quick on your feet, and always have a first-aid kit on your person.

His gaze flits up to see the massive Salamence nosing its way into the gathering of yellow Mareep. The sheep, for their credit (or… discredit?) pay little mind to the newcomer and simply expand around it like a white blood cell accepting an antigen. He knows, from firsthand experience, that herd-raised Pokemon tend to be… not ‘dumb’ exactly, just less… prepared? Jaded?

They made better targets, anyhow.

His attention draws back to the food. “Uhhh, steak and cheese and veggie,” he recites, reading his handwriting off the paper-wrapped packages and only having to squint a little. He looks up, then, face a placid smile as he takes in Aries for the first time. Nice hair, he thinks. “I didn’t know how long we’d be out here, so I prepared.”

Night was falling faster now, the light leeching down towards the horizon, clusters of pearl-like stars peppering the sky.

“The farmers told me they tried to stay up and witness it but something always stopped them,” Memo said, leaning back in the grass. “I imagine ‘something’ was just them falling asleep, but I could be wrong.”

He could see Atalys’ pained expression from where she was lumped in with the other Mareep, who baa’d and bumped against her as they grazed. Not the most scintillating of company, he imagined.

He gave her a little wave, and got a death-glare in response.

Memo cooked when he was stressed. It was a bit of a new realization for him, having come of the volatile emotions of a burgeoning relationship, not to mention the threat of regionwide destruction-- plus, he finally had a kitchen to call his own.

So he’d made sandwiches. And pasta salad. And more sandwiches.

A couple of the Mareep boop the Salamence with their soft, little noses, accepting the newcomer into the fold. Baa, ram, ewe, to your fleece be true. Even if you were a 200lb dragon.

Atalys gave Sable a look like she couldn’t decide if she was disgusted that the rest of the herd were so dumb, or if she was well and truly sorry that poor Sable had gotten sucked into this mess.

“That’s a good question,” Memo says, fishing out a wrapped sandwich, still slightly warm from the pan. The steak one was on grilled sourdough with white cheddar and pickled onions. He pickled things, too, when he had… emotions. He handed it over to Aries.

The boredom had well and truly set in when, from on the horizon, there came a small, fast-moving, pulsating light. It rapidly grew larger, indicating the speed of its approach. Memo sat up, zipping up the stakeout bag and crawling on his stomach in the grass-- they were behind a little hillock that, when they weren’t sitting up, they could just see the backs of the Mareep’s fleece-- and now Sable’s wings.

“That wasn’t as long as I thought,” he whispered, as the Beheyeem-- three of them-- came into view, hovering in the air over the flock.

Memo’s sisters are also not in Hoenn-- at least, to his knowledge. He is thankful for it, a fact he unknowingly shares with Aries, and not because of any lost love or latent affections-- but they do annoy him, that’s for sure. Anyhow, three of them sided with his mother when she told him he was dead to her, so.

That saying about blood being thicker than water was bullshit.

“We could,” Memo whispered, fishing in his pocket. “Or, we could--,” he pulled out his phone, grin flashing, “--follow the GPS tracker I have on Atalys back to wherever they’re taking the Mareep.” His bravado faltered, slightly. “Provided she’s the one that gets taken, of course.”

His attention went back to the flock where--

--yup, there was Atalys, clambering over the top of the other Mareep. Guillermo hoped the trying too hard wouldn’t turn the Beheeyem off, but luckily, it didn’t seem bothered. A faint, glowing outline illuminated Atalys’ form, and up, up, up she floated, turning hooves over head in a gentle spin.

She gave a faintly miffed baa of confusion before the Beheeyem began floating back the way it came.

Memo winked at Aries, smile flashing again.

If there was one thing his new and budding romance with Alexei Ivanov had taught him, it was to be prepared for anything-- from every type of booze imaginable to 3 A.M out-of-the-blue breakdowns. This... also applied to alien abductions, apparently.

Atalys was always meant to be kidnapped and he’d needed a way to track her, but originally, the technology had been for his other little lamb and her penchant for going AWOL, much to the early grays of her dearly beloved father-uncle-thing. Memo. That was Memo.

He turns up the volume on his phone and the GPS is a steady, quiet, beep in the night.

“Follow that sheep!” he whisper-yells, pointing dramatically in the direction Atalys went, before realizing he was woefully unprepared for any sort of airborne travel.

“Uh… mind if I hitch a lift?”
