Like many would have noticed, Hoenn had been stuck in a repetitive streak of disaster and doom, and as of late things had only gotten worse. So badly even that the mercenary found herself being contacted by one of her associates -one of the lighter side of the moral spectrum- regarding a pack of absols having been sighted at the foot of Meteor Falls, and had started moving more towards Rustboro City. Slowly, but towards it regardless. Aside from them usually not living or moving about in packs, the fact they’d started moving away from the mountains was something unheard of. But the associate wasn’t the one for fieldwork in rocky areas, so their request had been clear; keep an eye on the Absol, document their odd behavior, and see what’s gotten them to act as such.

It’s why she was now sitting on a boulder about a stone’s throw away from the six Absol, after having tracked them for days. She’d slowly started revealing her presence, and somehow they’d accepted it among their group, so she’d just been studying them as they wandered, as if they were searching for something. They hadn’t been violent yet, nor shown any signs of aggression, yet she stayed on her toes, with her Zoroark curled up at her left as she just watched them, like a shepherd guarding its flock. Her focus was currently on the odd-colored bronze Absol that had ‘joined’ the pack a day ago, but kept to itself, a little bit away from the rest, as if it was unsure whether it could join them. If anything, it even looked like the poor thing was close to depressed, with the way it sighed just now.

”That one’s really out of it, isn’t it?” she muttered softly.

The presence of Absol has a tendency to make people uneasy, even when they don’t do anything harmful to begin with. Most associate them with calamity, disaster, and suffering. It makes no sense, not to Tam at least, but even if it’s completely nonsensical, the concerned calls about a group of Absol having been spotted near Meteor Falls come anyway. Enough for the rangers to decide to send someone to check it out.

That person, of course, is Tam.

What he didn’t expect, however, was that someone else would actually take interest in the Disaster Pokémon instead of avoiding them, and so it is that with a goal in common, he has found himself working with Yvaine Varron.

If Tam were the sort of person to care a little more, he would have spent these past few days theorising on what sort of calamity the gathering of Absol could be foretelling. Instead, he just wants to make sure they don’t cause any trouble and that people don’t mess with them on purpose.

And so, that’s what he does, finding himself leaning against a tree with his Komala clinging to his shoulder when Yvaine draws his attention to the bronze-coloured Absol that had recently joined the pack.

”Maybe it’s worried because it looks different from them.” Tam shrugs, then turns to look at her. ”Your hair is almost the same colour, maybe it’ll like you.”

It may be a joke or it may not, it’s hard to tell when his voice is so very lacking in emotion. Monotone.

"Heh, perhaps." she takes his monotonous tone as it comes, knowing better than to immediately take offense just because emotion was lacking in his voice. Albeit only having known each other for as many days as she'd been following this pack, she'd already gathered that his tone of voice was just part of who he was. Just like she knew a whole lot of others would take his seeming disinterest offensively at best. If anything, she guessed Tam Fawley just kept his interests to himself, only for the keen of eye to realise if they watched him carefully.

But that wasn't why they were here. "Question being, should I bet upon that 'maybe' and find out, or just wait out what it will do, and hope nothing bad happens during that time?" It was a retorical question in all honesty, but there was a little voice telling her to take the risk of approaching the newcomer of the pack. The rest had accepted Tam and hers presence perfectly, but she knew better than to just mindlessly assume the oddly-colored one would do the same.

A deep sigh followed as she contemplated, and after a few minutes rose to her feet. "Here's to hoping you have a good eye for this. Mind keeping an eye on the rest as well while I go test your hair theory?" The bounty hunter asked, slowly walking down their vantage point towards the solitary Absol. It didn't seem to acknowledge the fact she'd gotten closer, or had even realised, instead blindly staring at the group further ahead. Yvaine caught a glimpse of its expression and felt a wave of pity roll over her. She got down on one knee and softly called out to the Absol instead, seeing it lift its head ever so slightly before going back to staring at the Absol pack.
