Sunlight wasn't exactly conducive to smuggling out on the open ocean, much less when it was midnight. It had been like this for a week, the light becoming progressively worse until nary a scrap of night was visible at any hour. On the third day Klaus had spied a ship in the distance, and on the fourth when he investigated weird chanting and actual gunfire warded him off going closer.

Thus, instead of checking his normal drop sites, Klaus sits on one of the boulders washed ashore at the lighthouse, his eyes narrowed in thought. It's not long before he fishes out his phone, the pink tinted, heart-shaped sunglasses atop his head pushed back down over his eyes before he pops off a text.

"Cultists or some shit out in force, can't make drop sites. Need backup."

Rocket could figure out what poor sap had to come out here and help murder a bunch of idiots, or whatever they end up doing to bring back the night.

As Gavin's cool amber gaze sweeps over the burner phone used for Rocket business, the thought of cultists brings to mind the Kyogre zealots that have been giving Sootopolis so much trouble. He and fellow underboss Martín del Mar had been dealing with the primordial leviathan's worshippers throughout the month, shoring up the city's defenses in order to combat the risk of floods.

That such activity could hit Lilycove as well is hardly surprising; it was on the coast, so rising sea levels were of ample threat. Ordinarily Gavin concerned himself only with the protection of Sootopolis, but if this cult was impacting the viability of one of their field agents...

He sighs, dragging a hand through blond hair, and reluctantly texts his partner to let him know he might be home late tonight. Then he returns to the burner phone and sends a simple, anonymous message.

On my way.

He's assuming that he'll arrive under conditions of stormclouds and rain. Imagine his shock, then, when it's blinding artificial sunlight that bathes the Lilycove coast. His initial plans to enter with Lugia under the cover of miasma abandoned, he instead surfaces near the lighthouse astride a rusted old anchor covered in seaweed the colour of blood. His Dhelmise sinks back into the sea as Gavin pulls himself onto the shore and removes the rebreather from his mouth, still dripping seawater.

"What the fuck is all this?" He gestures at the artificial sunlight, shaking his head. "Fucking Hoenn. Hello, Anchoret. Do you know where it's coming from?"

Klaus reads the text absently, his gaze flicking over the screen. He heaves a soft sigh, unsure who will show up to assist him, before levering himself to his feet. Pushing up his sunglasses, the young man goes to change into a wetsuit and is back outside by the time Gavin pulls himself from the sea; he pauses immediately, his brow furrowing as he recognizes the Underboss and recalls his less than stellar meeting with the man back at Rocket's headquarters.

Lifting his hand in a hesitant, absent wave, Klaus moves down the steps towards the beach and his superior. "Sir," he greets, his gaze casting askance back over the rippling ocean water. Arceus it was blinding. "Yeah." Klaus jerks his thumb towards the north east, offering, "There's this big-ass ship about two miles offshore."

"I tried to handle it on my own but the hull's too thick for my Dhelmise to just cut through," the young man supplies, his expression uncertain as to how they're going to rid themselves of the sun-addled pests.

Gavin's amber gaze flicks toward the indicated horizon, but he can't see much beyond the glare of sunlight on the water. If there was a ship out there, he couldn't see it, but that wasn't hard to believe considering.

Tearing his gaze away from the risk of sun blindness, he blinks at Klaus a few times while his eyes readjust.

"Think two Dhelmise might be better than one?" He gestures to the water where he'd surfaced; a hint of red and a glint of tarnished gold belie the location of his own ghastly anchor. "Perhaps if we corrode it, first. My Breloom could do it."

Atypical of the species, but Gavin was well-known as a specialist in shadow Pokémon.
