Both of which young Ashley has not, and the moment his jaw is snatched, that commanding squeeze has his silver eyes look to Theo with fear. He was vulnerable.

He gulps. He better pick what he says next carefully... but he wanted to tell this old asshole off. He closes his eyes for a moment. He thinks what he says before it leaves his lips, not wanting to risk more physical abuse. He's had enough.

"... sir yes sir." Just like one of his last foster fathers. Treat'em like a military asshole.

That pit of hatred in his stomach boils. Ashley hated Theo.

Ashley is let go, and when he gets free, he shivers and shakes a moment. His resolve doesn't waver, not in the slightest. The compliment is like a bittersweet backhanded slap, and one that Ashley doesn't take.

When Theo welcomes him, it's hollow. With a nod, Ashley doesn't show his hand. He keeps his face in that same scrunched up, bitter appearance.

That hatred would be with him for years to come...
