if there was one thing rook hated about the shadier part of what he did, it was waiting. it never failed to make them nervous- there was so much that could go wrong, like their newest client deciding to not show or sell them out to league.[break][break]

from how long they had been waiting- fifteen minutes or so from their agreed meeting time- this one was just going to be a no-show and rook was going to look like a dumbass, sitting around for someone who clearly had no intention of showing up.[break][break]

there was the potential of them just being late, too, but...honestly, rook wasn't in a mood to give them the potential of the doubt today. especially not when they hadn't seemed sure about the whole meeting even after a place had been decided on. which was fair, honestly, but it didn't help rook.[break][break]

five more minutes, and then he would get the hell out of dodge. the last thing they wanted to deal with was someone being too curious about what he was doing- especially if that someone happened to be in league. .

orchid had all the time in the world to kill today, and she needed a break from the walking desperately. so that’s what she’s doing, leaning against the wall. her feet hurt from the hellish heels she’d been in that day, so the extra support was needed. even if it got her hoodie slightly dirty.

she pulls her hood up again, making sure her face is at least partially obscured. sure, maybe she looked a bit worrying as a result, but she would take looking worrying over being recognized.

she shudders at the memory of what had occurred last time she was recognized. the swarms hadn’t been fun to escape — she had almost thrown a heel at someone, they’d been so difficult.

so yes, she pulls back her hair and puts up her hood. at least she had remembered to change her clothes before she left the studio she’d been touring, even if she had forgotten a pair of shoes. seriously, why did she forget the shoes?

she thinks she hears something around the corner behind her, and can’t help but peek at what it is. there’s a man, just standing there, doing… absolutely nothing. he appears to be waiting, perhaps?

that made two of them. orchid looks away, turning back to leaning against the wall on her side of things. she wasn’t particularly worried about the man, he didn’t seem the type to recognize her.

with each passing second, rook is more and more sure that whoever they were supposed to meet with had just decided to be a no-show. and then they hear heels, coming closer with more confidence than someone usually around this part of the city would have. most of them are awkward and just passing through- not walking with purpose. not like this one seems to be doing.[break][break]

they wait a moment or two longer, trying to see if a shape appears nearby, but the heels stop and nobody comes to greet him; except someone who practically has most of their face covered, peering around the wall at them. "what." they practically snap out, before the person disappears around the wall again and they're left wondering if this actually was the person he was supposed to be dealing with.[break][break]

he's quick to act, once the realization hits him, preparing to quite possibly chew this poor soul out for being so late to the agreed meeting when he has better things to do. "are you who i was supposed to meet up with?" they ask, once they're close enough to the other side of the wall that they can be heard- casual, because they're probably drawing enough attention as-is and whispering would only do worse.
