“HM,” is a less than averse reaction to her presumption. he seems to contemplate it despite full well knowing the truth. whatever part katherine may have played in this, he has no doubt that Lulu Flint remains the true orchestrator.

but he can never tell her that. that truth serves no purpose. their goals must align so he construes a different image. one that remains reasonable with their current knowledge gap.

“perhaps, but i believe it goes beyond that. they wanted me to power up whatever they used to create or summon whatever happened in sootopolis.”

he doesn’t know much about what happened but the gossip that echoes within the halls is enough to give him an idea. background noises from the television in the next room spills more than enough soundbites.

More details unravel, and Fernando is eventually able to paint a brighter, clearer image of what took place while he was held captive and Hoenn was subjected to an attack by an alien creature.

As usual, the Malevolent does not bother to use the key she's been given. Instead, she phases through the door to enter the house without announcing her arrival. It is less an attempt at deception, but rather, a force of habit. It was much more convenient, as she often claimed.

BY NOW, fernando doesn’t bat an eye at her intrusion. if anything, she keeps him on his feet. for he cannot hide away his secrets without a moment’s notice. so he must be forever vigilant. always prepared…

“i’m wrapping up,” he calls out, almost all too accustomed to living with her. it reminds him of a simpler time but one he finds little intimacy in now that his life is fraught with work. it drags the awkwardness away in a fever of never-ending emails and reports. metrics about the meteor, mobilization, and other league adjacent matters.

a tug of his headband covers his missing eye as he enters the kitchen. he looks at her expectantly, as trained to her routine.

Various dishes contained in plastic boxes are assembled on the island table. Katherine's organization can only be described as chaotic and lawless, for there is little logic behind the order and place of each food. It was, of course, glaringly obvious that she had lived by herself for the entirety of her adult life.

She, as Fernando had come to find, starts with a salad. There's no dressing on it, only a pinch of salt and an overbearing amount of pepper. For all of her power and might, Katherine couldn't escape having to diet to sustain her current figure.

FERNANDO’S ‘HMPH’ IS DUBIOUS AT BEST. despite the fact that he’ll eat just about anything does little to dampen his palate. kantonese cuisine carries more than just a sense of unami, it boasts one of the few nostalgic goggles he still has left. an authentic meal tastes just like home. before it all went to shit.

“meteor fragments are moving as planned,” he says with little concern for confidentiality. she’s seen too much to keep quiet now.

a lid is popped open and steam rises like how his MISTY TERRAIN would, if he still had it.

“i’m still considering how to work around vestri and dross.”

chopsticks pull one of the slowpoke tails onto the same lid and he eats off it with little need for a plate or otherwise.

“and we’ve finalized my deployment. i’ll be heading towards meteno during the operation. boots on the ground.”

her confidence in handling skyler dross proves both bold and reassuring. for many have grown to fear hoenn’s oceanic titan. however, he believes this fear to be out of line. as sure as TAPU FINI fell before rocket, so too can this leviathan submit under those brave enough to rise to action.

“should the worst happen, even i can handle her,” he surmises. just like declan walsh, fernando holds his own trap card against the BLUE ORB’s wielder.

his own meal is small and short. good practice weeks before conflict demands them be ready at a moment’s notice.

“i do,” is both a flattering statement and one that holds merit. but katherine thinks too small for his tastes. “however, you prove too important to stack with me. you, me, and kyle lopez prove paramount to our success. matias, miro, morales, reyes, and anderson are too volatile to depend on.”

in his mind, all of them are prone to failure. for a melting pot of so many personalities are bound to conflict and derail. if they could unite under one banner, unanimously, hoenn would not face such predicaments. but such uniformity is what led to the other world.

“Eva Morales will hesitate thinking she can be greedy and save both worlds. by the time she realizes she cannot, it’ll be too late. she will fight but we cannot rely on her during crunch time.” which, in his mind, makes her the easiest to plan around.

“illeana reyes and Laurence Anderson are wild cards. i cannot read anderson and yet… i don’t think most can. as for reyes, she’s shown recent bouts of irrationality.” two sides of the same coin—different reasons but the same results. therefore, both are branded liabilities.

“as for Melody Miro and MATIAS SILPH. they’re more in line with Laurence Anderson but they can be understood. the issue is that they move too quick and go too far.” flashy and sharp, these two make up the serrated edges of the SWORDS OF JUSTICE. while he considers melody to more well intentioned between them, he cannot help but consider what she will inevitably get roped into.

“REYES AND ANDERSON WILL NOT FAIL BECAUSE OF THEIR ALLEGIENCE,” fernando clarifies. “they will fail because of their line of thinking. well intentioned but making the wrong choices when it comes to execution. the fact that reyes was willing to botch several primal nodes puts her at the top of my concerns.”

they agree on the rest, to some measure of degree, so he finds no point in elaborating further. whatever variance they do have means little when the main ideas coincide. and, unfortunately, that puts Eva Morales in the hot seat.

“she will not be in the final operation,” he reveals. that’s the initial plan now, before CIAN MAHER reveals the extent of rocket’s plan, and one that will change drastically closer to d-day.

“ideally, i would like you to reign in matias and miro. i can keep anderson in line.”
