Born in Cinnabar Island to the son of a scientist that worked on the project in the somewhat infamous Cinnabar Mansion.
Cherise didn't take after her family, but her father continued
his father's experimentation in his own ways. Testing people and pokemon, finding their limits, and taking whatever he could from whoever was offering. He made quick work of making his son as in his image as possible, severing Cherise's connection with her younger sibling before it could solidify into something worthwhile. Without being able to turn to her family, the girl took solace in the company her only company - a pidgey she found on the beach near her home. [break][break]
It took months for the pokemon to regain it's strength and heal from it's injury - falling into shallow waters and being tossed against the rocks before washing up on the sandy shore. But those months were some of the pink haired girl's favorite, because she had a friend, even if she did have to keep them a secret. [break][break]
She and her little bird were both obsessed with flight. She took care of the pokemon until it was healed enough to fly again. They were fast friends, sharing food and running up and down the shore, wings (and arms) spread respectively. When it finally flew away, she realized that she would never see her friend again. It broke the girl's heart, and she became more reclusive after this point. [break][break]
In her solace, she became obsessed with flying type pokemon. Read about bird pokemon and the avian trio, stole books from her father's extensive library that mentioned pokemon from other regions that could fly. Legendary pokemon became part of her childish obsession as well, powerful and strong and most importantly - they could fly, and go anywhere they wanted whenever they so desired. [break][break]
When Team Rocket took hold of the region, Cinnabar felt it's effects hard. Getting trade to the small island town was difficult, and many people chose to move inland. The Walker family however, remained until they were physically pushed out. The storm that tore through the island was otherworldly, causing damage that those remaining had never seen before. There was little to nothing left, and in it's wake, Cherise's father lost not only his wife, but all of his research was ruined - his personal lab laid to waste along with his home and all of his belongings. Cherise searched the shore for her mother for days, praying she would turn up like that injured pidgey all those years ago. But time passed and the family was forced to move to the mainland.[break][break]
The mainland that was teeming with Rockets. Every business, trade and establishment ran through Rocket hands. The league was gone - and people were either compliant, forced into complacency, or they rebelled. The men of the Walker family chose to join the rockets. Her father started aiding in their research after loosing his own, quick to offer any assistance he could in order to one day pick of the pieces of his broken research. Her brother started from the bottom as a grunt, and despite being young he had a sadistic streak, aiding in keeping the rockets in power and forcing his pokemon to help him do so. [break][break]
Cherise was left with a choice, join them or leave them behind. [break][break]
The girl dragged her feet up until her father started his research again, using pidgey and spearow for his experiments because they were such common creatures. Rats with wings really. [break][break]
Cherise couldn't watch them be experimented on, so one night while her father was away she freed them and made her escape. As the bird pokemon flew away, one remained - a fiery little pidgey that was impossibly familiar. A surprise reunion, and one that never would have happened had she chosen to stay and work with the rockets. It felt like a sign - from there on the spritely teenager helped the struggling rebellion whenever possible. At first she was lost, and not knowing where to start she took up street performing with her pidgeotto Saoirse, singing, dancing and mirroring the movements of her pokemon. She continued to raise bird pokemon and taught them signals so that they could communicate. After enough time with the avians, she learned and taught her pokemon bird calls that they could all understand. [break][break]
Meeting other people that stood against the rockets was inspiring. She taught them the signals and calls she used with her birds, and they adopted the form of communication for when they couldn't speak normally. Although she didn't take any credit for it in the long run, it felt good to contribute to the cause. She wasn't physically strong or the best at fighting with her pokemon but she could
help. Many a time the girl made bonds with people, but just as many those bonds were cut short, the rockets capturing and imprisoning those that fought against their regime. [break][break]
The road to Hoenn was not one she wanted to take, but the Rockets left many with no choice. There was no amount of fighting that the people could do to outweigh the damage that had already been done. Eventually those that could were forced to leave, some by boat, others by taking passages to johto. Saying goodbye to Kanto felt like a betrayal toward everyone and everything she had lost in the region. It was supposed to be bittersweet, but in the moment it happened it was just bitter. The Rockets had taken everything from she and the people of Kanto. It felt like running away... stuck between a rock and a hard place, give up and leave or give up and stay. Leaving took fight, so Cherise did what her child self had always dreamed of and chose
flight.[break][break]
Years later the young woman finds herself in Hoenn, having lived a few months in the region. She's a new recruit as a ranger, but wants to help people alongside her pokemon. She's notorious for job hopping though, a flighty girl that goes where the wind takes her - which is either helping people or tearing down the rockets whenever possible. Training her pokemon to be stronger and finding more members of her pokemon found family is always on the agenda. Feeling bitter and helpless isn't something she will fight tooth and nail not to experience again. Making a home in Hoenn and protecting it the way she failed to do in Kanto is the base of all further goals. [break][break]
