Spending his evening in the Emergency Room isn't anything to write home about, save how miserable it is. It's also certainly one way to miss one of the Region's largest happenings for the year and a great way to make yourself scarce for said horrible event.

He swiftly finds out flying taxi services are grounded due to the weather, leaving water-travel or teleportation his only means of getting home. Limping towards the city's lake-like center, Klaus absently rifles through his pokeballs until he produces the one containing his Mantine; he would have to do.

Chewing his lip, Klaus stills as he considers his options. He can't take the underwater route - for one thing his bandage can't get wet, and at the moment he's not sure he's in the mood to hold his breath as long as that would require. Which leaves an aerial route before hitting the water.

"What could go wrong," he murmurs sarcastically to himself.

Shivering slightly from the dropping temperature, Xiura huddled under the awning of a cafe in Sootopolis city, quite a ways away from home. Her figurative well of creativity had been running a little on the dry side nowadays, and she knew from experience that the best way to refill it was to seek inspiration from other places and entrepreneurs. She had collected a good amount of ideas to bring back to her boba tea cafe, and she was excited to start experimenting.

However, fate evidently had other plans. Her mode of air travel back to Lilycove had been canceled due to the weather.

Suddenly, she noticed another person by the lake in the center of the city. Someone who looked familiar.

"Klaus?" she said. Glancing upward at the ominously gathering clouds, she hurried over to him. "Klaus! How are you?" Clutching her shawl more tightly around herself, she said, "You wouldn't happen to know a way back to Lilycove, would you?"

"Eh?" Klaus utters ungracefully, pulled from his thoughts at the sound of his name. He blinks once, taking in the sight of the woman before placing her face from the beach, an awkward, "Oh, hey," spilling from his lips in response.

Before he can question what she's doing out here he pauses, his gaze casting askance from his awaiting Mantine to the dark-haired woman. Hell. "I - yeah," he chokes out, his mouth opening and closing as his mind races on how he's going to make this work. Allowing his nose to wrinkle, he slowly questions in turn, "How good's your balance?"

This was either about to be his crowning achievement, or an embarrassing walk of shame.

Xiura tilted her head at klaus anchoret, a little confused. "I have a fairly good sense of balance, I think. Anyway, I tried calling the Corviknight taxi business, but they said they weren't taking passengers tonight." She understood keeping the flying Pokemon safe in inclement weather was important, but she wasn't quite sure where to go from here. Maybe there was an inn nearby that might have an open room for the night.

Xiura glanced to the side at the Mantine beside klaus anchoret, waving at the water-type Pokemon in greeting. If only she had a flying Pokemon on her team, then travel would be so much easier.

Then, the context of Klaus' question clicked in her mind. "Oh. Does your Mantine fly?"

"Ish," Klaus hazards, his expression yet uncertain as he muddles through the plan forming in his mind. "I mean, for as well as Mantine fly. Which isn't terrible for short distances."

Heaving a soft sigh, Klaus looks about the area, taking in the somewhat choppy water, the ominous clouds above, and the woman stranded the same as himself before making a decision. "Look, if you don't mind probably falling into the ocean we can try my Mantine." He takes the time to wish he had a pokemon with teleport before resigning himself to his fate - work never stops, and given the poor weather it was almost a guarantee the waters around the lighthouse in Lilycove were more treacherous than normal.

"Alright," he mutters before moving carefully to stand on his Mantine; it's with great effort, a good deal of swearing, and the most awkward sitting position possible that Klaus manages to finally sit with. "Fucking shit," he hisses under his breath, his teeth grit from pain. Why did the Absol have to bite him there.

He pats the area beside himself to indicate where Xiura should seat herself as he offers, "I've got to get back either way. You're free to back out."

"Oh! Not at all, I'm grateful for your kindness." Xiura followed Klaus' gaze and observed the growing tempestuousness of the lake for a few moments. Without commenting on the water's apparent choppiness, she said, "Have you ever surfed on your Mantine? It was pretty exhilarating when I tried for the first time." She smiled, placing a hand on the water Pokemon to get a feel for the creature before she tried to mount it.

Finding the Mantine both steady and sturdy, she clambered on top of the Mantine beside Klaus, testing her balance on the creature as she sat as comfortably as possible, but with her arms braced for any sudden impacts or movements.

"I think that if we do survive this trip back to Lilycove, I'll have to dedicate my next boba creation to you and Mantine!" she said with great appreciation, patting the Mantine underneath them. "You've helped me a great deal, first with those troublesome Wingulls, and now helping me find a way home."

Then she thought to glance at Klaus, whose grimace seemed a little uncomfortable compared to his normal expression. "Are you hurt?" Xiura asked, tentatively. Klaus also held himself in a fairly stiff, unnatural-looking seated position. "Once I strained a muscle riding a Rapidash for too long."

Klaus flushes beneath Xiura words, his brow drawing up into a furrow as embarrassment colours his expression. Glancing away from the woman to pointedly study the skin of the Mantine beneath him. His embarrassment deepens further at Xiura's musings about a boba creation fashioned after him.

"It isn't that big of deal," he whispers, his voice constricted and gaze refusing to rise from where it rests on the pokemon. Nonetheless, something tight unspools in his chest, an appreciation blossoming for Xiura at her easy kindness.

Finally, he glances over, his face totally blank for a moment at her suggestion of a sprained muscle. "Something like that," he utters self-consciously. There was a snowball's chance in hell he was telling her what happened with that Absol. His throat clearing, he taps the Mantine to get its attention and directs, "We need to get up the sides and out on the ocean, but you have to go slow. We don't have a harness to hold onto, yeah?"

A soft trill of acknowledgement sounds from the Mantine, and with slow, precise movements it skirts up into the air, its pace steady. "Hold on," Klaus directs. "And don't move too much." Holding on near where the Mantine's wing-flaps and body connect for balance, the trip over Sootopolis's natural walls, all things told, isn't too terribly difficult. They're soon out on open water at a steady clip, sending them towards Lilycove.

"Holding up alright?" Klaus calls over the rush of the waves, his hair already damp from sea spray.

Xiura drops the line of questioning regarding the other's injury as she notices Klaus's discomfort, though she still retains some measure of concern. She tries to afford him a good amount of space on the top of the Mantine, though it is difficult as she tries to obtain a stable position as well for this admittedly unorthodox plan. She braces herself on her knees so that she can use her torso to shift her weight in any direction to keep balance atop the Pokemon. "Do you have enough space, Klaus?" she asks.

As the Mantine ascends into the air to cross over Sootopolis's natural boundaries, Xiura clenches her jaw, tightening her abdominal muscles to brace against any turbulence or jolting movements by the Pokemon's wing-flaps. It pays off, in addition to Klaus's clearly mastered training of his Mantine's abilities.

"Yes, this isn't bad at all!" Xiura's clothes are damp, but it's a trifling inconvenience compared to being able to get home tonight.

"Your Mantine's balance and dexterity as a mount are amazing, to be able to bear two riders. They must be in the top five percent of their species," she laughs. "I never would have imagined that we could get home to Lilycove, otherwise!"

As the trio skim over the rolling waves and sea spray, Xiura asks, "Hey, Klaus, how long have you been in Lilycove? Do you know of anyone who does special transports?"

She has received some requests lately for some special tea leaves... the very expensive kind that generally come with additional free gifts to pass along between customers.

There are some things that she still carries with her from Ecruteak City, including her mother's oblique network of high-profile clientele.
