There is a moment in which Katherine's Nihilego does pause as PSYCHIC shackles wrap around its form. But it's only a fleeting moment. Through its ULTRA BURST transformation, the beast's typing mutated as well, now becoming a DARK and POISON type.

Unbeknownst to the Malevolent's assailants, the duo now share an immunity to both PSYCHIC moves and any TOXINS. The purple liquid even coats the jellyfish as it charges its own attack, seemingly undisturbed by what should have crippled it.

It leaves room for a BEAST NEUROTOXIN empowered SLUDGE WAVE to gush ahead. Its toxin ensures that its BAD POISON is not only guaranteed, but it will even affect STEEL-TYPES and POISON-TYPES, completely dismissing any inherent immunities.

The SACRED SWORD lands true, but when it does, the shiny Nihilego is illuminated briefly, its DEFENSE naturally increasing in the face of danger. Sableye, on the other hand, remains without orders. It does not attempt to strike. Instead, it challenges Jayden's own with a matching POWER GEM. Rays of light emanate from each of its gems, colourful and bright.

The shadows beneath the rocket duo briefly contront as if Darkrai were present. Giratina's SHADOW FORCE silently threatens to strike-- but not yet. Not before the Malevolent herself calls upon it, at least.

As with the mysterious uncertainty that came with the ULTRA BURST transformation, there was little understanding why neither TOXIC or PSYCHIC looked to work. And, if it did, the effects didn't last for long.

At least Jayden's attacks rang true, allowing his offensive counterpart to chip at the woman's defenses, even if it were only by a bit.

"Quick, PROTECT! Wide Guard!"

Out from the confines of Felix's key chain, the young Klefki set forward a wide barrier of PROTECTION, looking block out the toxic SLUDGE WAVE from both him and his allies. Combined with the joint efforts of his Gallade, who covered the weak spots with his WIDE GUARD, the party and it's allies were able to remain relatively safe from the poison, granting Jayden enough time to possibly counter.

as his honedge swings around, the attack causes the magnificant beast to shimmer. the two POWER GEMS collide in a brilliant display of power, and jayden's own sable-eye is knocked back from the attack.

Or, well, in this case? The devil from the depths of hell. The SHADOW FORCE defies every law known to man, stripping the Rockets of their PROTECT and WIDE GUARD both. Although Giratina itself does not emerge, its presence is unmistakable. The pressure it exudes. The irrepressible fear it strikes in the hearts of men.

The SLUDGE WAVE presses on, no longer inhibited by one barrier or another. The toxic tidal wave surges forth, intending to drown each and every Pokemon in its path.

Sableye, on the other hand, merely acts in defence of its trainer-- and, by default, Nihilego too. It matches the NIGHT SHADE with its DARK PULSE, clashing one dark beam with another.

However, the AERIAL ACE goes undisturbed and slashes at the jellyfish's skin as intended. No reaction is spared by the Ultra Beast, but deep within the creature's body, Katherine winces. She allows herself that if only because the darkness shrouds her expression, obscuring the sole hint towards her weakness.
