It was deep into the night, a dreadfully late time of nearly 4 in the morning, before the precipice of a new dawn, an unexpected downpour had the ground muddy and thick. Despite being dressed for heavy weather, even this much had been a little too much for Stela, who'd been out for a completely reasonable reason on a completely reasonable stroll out of town, she'd just wanted to destress and feel the cool air of the night before going to bed, and yet, rather than singing in the rain, or dancing with the shower, she'd found herself beset by what may as well have been a freak monsoon.[break][break]

Though she'd ran to cover, she hadn't exactly planned on heading home, at least, not without partaking in a bit of amusement. Flicking off as much water as she could from her hand, she'd pulled out her phone, hidden away in a waterproof rain-cover, calling up an old friend, "Ryuu, how've you been~?" she'd chimed in a sing-song voice, seemingly not noticing that she was calling someone at 4am out of nowhere.

When one receives a call at the god forsaken hours of morning, there are often a few set thoughts that run through their heads.

One, who the fuck. Two, why the heck.

And three -

Vague grunting noises akin to a sleepy Bewear crackle over the line, a soft greeting mumbled as Ryuuzaki buries his head into a pillow. The familiarity of the voice doesn't even do anything to brush the sleepiness from his head, the surprise melting into a mild sense of irritation and resignation as he forces himself to lie in a debatably more comfortable position.

Warm summer showers pitter patter against a closed window, gently echoing through his room and intwining with the quiet purrs of a sleeping Glaceon.

"Mmmm... nope!" Stela had answered with amusement clearly in her voice, though she hadn't seemed to notice, or perhaps care that she was the reason that he'd been woken up in the night, seeming to believe he was still awake himself.[break][break]

"Say, mind if I crash at your place? I'm kinda caught in the rain, and I need somewhere to duck real quick. Don't want to get my floor wet. I gotta say bye to Pooh Bear too," she'd noted, quickly throwing out hit statements out of nowhere in succession. Of course, she hadn't truly meant that she'd rather get Ryuu's floor wet than her own, she'd been comfortable teasing her friend like this, though she'd always reassured that she'd help with reparations if things end up going a bit too far. Of course, Ryuu of all people should know there wasn't much point in her crashing at his place, considering she lived right next door. "Besides..."[break][break]

TAP. TAP.

"I'm already here." she'd waved hello through his window with a smile—regardless of whether or not there were curtains in the way. As it turns out the place she'd hidden from the rain at and brought what was in fact, not a Bewear, but a wild Ursaring she'd befriended to was her friend's house. Echoes of its reverberating roars were two-fold, one right outside poor Ryuu's window, and the other blaring through the phone's speakers.

"So it's okay to get my floor wet but not yours?" Now, he's known her long enough to recognise blissful obliviousness over willful ignorance, so it's safe to say that he's pretty much expected her not to think that far. But he's far more worried about the things left unsaid just yet...

And there it is, those dreaded words. When he hears them, he's already forcing himself out of bed, bare feet sweeping over the chilly floorboards as he walks out into the corridor. And there she is, at the doorstep window with an actual Ursaring that he swears she's never had.

He stares at her with bleary eyes through the misty glass, barely flinching as he draws the phone away from his ears. Then, as he gives her a weak, welcoming smile of his own,

He gently draws the curtains to hide her away.

"So it's okay to get my floor wet but not yours?"

"... crap, I didn't think about that." she'd answered truthfully and sheepishly, though had laughed it off, "I'll clean up my mess! Besides! Your place has a nice and homey feel to it!" she'd added on with a smile on her face that couldn't quite be translated over a phone, but likely still transcended the laws of physics just enough that Ryuu could likely picture the childish smile that was on her face that probably didn't quite fit a young woman like her. Of course her ending statement held true, she was barely ever at her own home to make it really feel particularly lived in.[break][break]

She'd waited a couple moments, before she'd almost been ready to give up and go home when she'd seen her old friend draw open the curtains on his front door, with an elated smile in return for the effort he'd put into smiling at her, waving much more cheerily—her cheerfulness perhaps infecting the neighbourly wild Ursaring that she'd managed to convince to follow her, whom had in turn, also waved to Ryuu—she'd just about uttered a joyous "Hey th--" before Ryuu had closed the curtain on her.[break][break]

She'd tapped on the glass after about 10 seconds, "Ryuu? Hey Ryuu~?" rapping her knuckles on the glass in a manner that, had it been a stranger, or rather literally anyone else in the entire world, it'd probably have some major serial killer vibes.[break][break]

"Are you telling me you can bear with the weight of your sins, Ryuu? That you can pawposely leave me out in the rain? This ursa outrage, I tell you! You probearly aren't even listening! How barbearic, uncouth even! I shan't even beargain with you in this matter, Ryuu, you'll rue this day furever!" she'd bemoaned, completely deadpan, yet, with a faux swoon, leaning up against the glass of her friend's front door, an arm over her shoulder, overly dramatic, and throwing out so many unbearable puns that the Ursaring she'd found had probably thought she was off her rocker. She'd shed crocodile tears, faking a woeful sob, though unable to stifle her own laughter enough that she'd accidentally laughed at one of her own puns while pretending to be upset.

"Maybe you'd get that feel back home if you actually lived in it." He sighs back, quietly eyeing the bright red button that could probably end most of his suffering. As she begins to rap her knuckles against his window and drop bear pun after bear pun, he begins to question why he even knows this person to begin with. And perhaps in some part of his gently fragmented mind, he's feeling his fingers just itching to grab a knife.

But things can be solved with methods far less cruel and messy, a whistle through the halls garnering a clattering of objects in response. Soon, an Audino comes waddling down the hallways with bundles of towels in tow, chirping with a smile as she calmly opens the door.

"Make sure they dry off before they step in, Holly. You know what Skadi's like if she wakes up to a mess." And perhaps, that is a warning to @stela in some way - A rather nicely rephrased 'Fuck around and find out', if you will.

The Audino gives a salute, turning to offer up the towels and pausing to stare a little at the Ursaring. When she's somewhat dry, or at the very least, not dripping water all over the place, Holly finally lets her in. And the Ursaring too if it so wishes, though she does seem a little wary of the giant beast. Regardless, she leads the way with little pitter pattering footsteps, ushering Stela right into the living room.

A dim light flickers, illuminating the entire room but not quite blinding its inhabitants. It's rather simple in terms of decoration: Pillows and throws strewn over the couch, beanbags sat in the corner right next to a shelf of books and odd trinkets. Several more books lay on the coffee table, crowded around a set of papers with cursive handwriting and blunt pencils. Clinical trial research papers, reports on new disease outbreaks, perhaps one or two articles on the strange phenomenon of illumina...

"Tea or hot chocolate?"
[break][break]
Steady hands sweep across the table, gathering the materials into one neat stack before it's placed to the side. Then come the clinking of ceramic mugs, cupboards creaking as he searches through their contents.

"Why were you out that late?"

As the door was finally opened for her, Stela had smiled, kneeling down a little to wave hello to the Audino who'd so kindly brought in towels, before turning her head back up to Ryuu, "to be honest, I was kind of running dry on the puns, I'm glad you opened the door when you did." She said with an impish grin, she'd turned to look at the Ursaring behind her when the Audino had brought attention to it.[break][break]

"Hm. Right... I guess it's time to say good bye, huh, Pooh Bear?" she'd said softly, giving the giant wet bear pokémon a scratch under the chin and a heavy pat on the head, waving the thing good bye like it was just a smaller stray pokémon rather than a large Ursaring from the woods out in the mountains. The ursine had let out another grunting bellow, before turning to leave for its own home through the rain. While Stela had shown she didn't quite have common sense considering the situation she'd put Ryuu in, she'd had enough to understand that she shouldn't really be bringing a wild pokémon into her friend's home.[break][break]

She'd happily taken the towels and dried off, leaving her wet, weather-proof jacket at the entrance where it wouldn't make more of a mess, giving the Audino head pats before she'd slipped her shoes off to make herself more comfortable in Ryuu's place. "Mmmm... tea's... actually, hot chocolate sounds great!" she'd said with a smile, crashing on the beanbag for purely childish curiosity. Given her tendencies to satiate her curiosity and pick the more 'fun' looking things, there seemed to be quite the disparity between Stela's personality and her ability to run a business.[break][break]

"Late? It's not that late. But anyway, I was just going for a stroll. I wanted some fresh air and it just started raining out of nowhere!" She'd answered, seemingly unaware that 4 in the morning was in fact late, and that a 'stroll' outside of Lilycove, into the mountains, trekking through the forest, befriending a wild pokémon and then making her way to her neighbour's place was in fact not a simple stroll.

The fact that she doesn't show up in the living room with a giant bear in tow gives him a slight peace of mind. And so he's a little kinder in stirring the mug full of hot chocolate, making a quick cup of green tea for himself before walking to hand it over.[break][break]

"4 in the morning is considered late by many conventional standards." Settling on the couch gives him an opportunity to take a sip of his tea, "Are you sure you're not cold? You can grab a quick shower and toss your stuff into the laundry."[break][break]

There's no time to be phased. In fact, he can't exactly be phased when he's known her for practically his entire life. Add on the fact that he has a little sister back home and you've got a perfectly composed man who barely thinks of the matter.[break][break]

"I'd rather not have you fall sick on my watch."
