there's said to be a temple hidden somewhere in the depths of route one-one-nine outside fortree rumored to contain boundless treasure. so it's only natural for rocket to embark on such an expedition once said temple is revealed to be real.[break][break]

today, theo's invited young Casey Fincher to join him, and it's outside the barren architecture that he waits, cigarette burning away.

Casey arrived as he often did, wearing red track-pants and no shirt, matching shoes. His jewelry was all intact as well. He sauntered up to the mouth of the abandoned temple, leaning on its lip with an elbow. He was ready to get in there and pounce on whatever, but he needed to establish a rapport first.

“Can I get a light?”

He said with a smirk, before revealing a disposable e-cigarette. Short and square shaped, with a pink hue and a strawberry printed on the side. He took a long drag, before pocketing the thing. Around his face, the scent of that artificial fruit flavoring lingered.

theo's fishing out a lighter by the time he turns to see the e-cigarette. already committed to it, he pulls one out anyways and lights an actual cigarette of his own.[break][break]

Casey took another long drag. Before he spoke again, ribbons of smoke trailed out of his nostrils, as his mouth was shut. Between that and the tattoos, he was taking this dragon thing seriously.

“The flavor is the point. If they had cigarettes that atleast smelled like fruit, I’d be all over em.”

His eyes widened at the question. Casey made a gesture for him to follow, as he and his Duraludon moved to walk as they talked.

”I’m not familiar with this temple. I know someone at the Weather Institute, and he’d never mentioned something like this on the outskirts of Fortree.”

Another long drag from Casey. He was then met with a blinking light, letting him know that he needed to charge his pen. He then winced, putting it back in his pocket.

“Guess there’s still perks to going analog.”

With Decidueye at the head of the pack, Casey motioned for Duraludon to follow. Casey then slowly jogged behind the two, keeping an eye out for some kind of indentation in the wall, at the very least.

”Do you know anything beyond the stairwell, and the promise of treasure?”

"this temple was built to worship one of the weather deities. kyogre, i believe."[break][break]

but it's odd that they decided to build it this deep into a jungle as opposed to next to an ocean. he does hear the trickling of water, however, which he assumes indicates that there's something flowing underneath them.[break][break]

he fishes out a pack of cigarettes, offering one to the grunt.[break][break]

The long hall ended in a stairwell. Decidueye going first and being crushed by a falling Duraludon wasn’t ideal, so Casey had to tuck his pet back in a ball for now. The three slowly made their way down a set of stone steps, so weathered that they may as well be polished.

“I guess it makes sense for forces of nature themselves to be gods. For them to be just that unaccountable to people.”

With an outstretched hand, Casey declined the cigarette and kept walking down the steps. Unsure of where to put his hands when he was this unnerved by his surroundings, both made their way to his sceptilite pendant.

”I’m… open to the idea but have yet to meet one.”

that's surprising to hear especially when hoenn seems to have a few gods running around. well, he supposes casey will meet one eventually, and then he'll be sure to ask the same question again.[break][break]

the stairs lead down and down until they reach a stone wall inscribed with various markings and depictions of what he assumes to be cultists. at the very top of it all is a shape that likely resembles kyogre, and it's there that he wonders how exactly will they get past this.[break][break]

he looks around.[break][break]

"any ideas?"[break][break]

theo isn't big enough on movies or novels to know there may be a way to activate the trap doors.

The stairwell slowly wound down. Stones smoothed by time acted as paved steps. As they drew closer to the temple’s chamber, an odd humidity crept up on them, being that it was tied to the god of the Sea. Casey was still putting two and two together with his question.

“I’ve read bits and pieces, but that’s it. Melody doesn’t really tell me any of this.”

With the tableau infront of them, it looked to be the end of the road. A print of people gathered under Kyogre, the Sea itself. But with the temple being carved rock, he put his hand right atop Kyogre’s head and pushed inward. The wall groaned, before parting from the other walls as if it were a door. He then gestured for Theo to follow, as he moved through the path laid out before them.

”I was just guessing here. But it’s safe to say that they wanted us to imagine Kyogre returning, and the land giving way to the sea.”
