"buddy! over here!" waving broadly, LANCE VOLLANS will be able to see the ever grande city head captain waving at him from the city's edge. it seems an unusual place to meet, considering there were plenty of tasty burger establishments to meet up at (annalise henderson would know... or maybe not know.) but there was a reason for it.

[break][break] when the other steps closer, ollie steps forward to clasp his hand and pull him into a one-armed hug.

[break][break] "hey bro. thanks for meeting me out here. really appreciate it."

[break][break] you see, ollie was in a bit of a doozy. normally, this kind of work would have been left to rangers of lower rank, and ones situated around places like oldale or littleroot, where there were actual farms. in evergrande, there wasn't much of that. in fact, there wasn't much of anything, except those sweaty trainers trying to trek their way up to kyle lopez 's castle.

[break][break] but somehow, someone's personal collection of wooloo and mareep had gotten loose. made a real mess of all the flowers on capitol hill - as the locals so fondly called it. if they squinted, you could see the fluffy remenants of the pokemon shedding atop the nearby cliffs.

the thinly-veiled implication runs right over ollie's head.

[break][break] instead, he begins to lead the other towards the hill's proper and hands him some climbing gear. ollie hooks a metal grapple into the rockbed. "we're still building a ramp to the top of here — which is why it's still so weird how they got up there."

[break][break] with one hand on the rope, the other hand gestures blindly at the wooloo bleating on the hills above.

[break][break] "a tip said it's a trick from one of the local highschoolers. school's open again, and the kids are going stircrazy. especially with the barrier up and everything."

[break][break] he heaves himself up over the side, offering a hand over to LANCE VOLLANS .

while lance does take the rope, he wonders why they don't just fly up. they have pokemon, after all, and it'd be a waste of resources not to use them.[break][break]

but ollie seems keen on climbing up there himself so he obliges and follows along.[break][break]

"maybe the kids are just playing a prank on you?"[break][break]

because there's no way the wooloo would've been able to get up there on their own.[break][break]

[break][break] with a heave, the ranger captain pulls the other up to the hill and turns around to look at their surroundings. sure enough, there were several wooloo and mareep grazing on the hill, seemingly unbothered by the chance in scenery.

[break][break] "it's a bit early in the year for that. do you ever have problems like this in lilycove?"

[break][break] ollie wouldn't doubt it — there were always problematic teenagers everywhere.

[break][break] reaching for his belt, ollie releases his tropius into the air before them. the pokemon's SWEET SCENT fills the air around them.

[break][break] from his satchel, ollie pulls out a large net and gestures for LANCE VOLLANS to assist him. sure, they could just catch all the pokemon and then send them to their natural habitat — but that would be a waste of perfectly good pokeballs!

as they should. lance is a decorated ranger and trainer even if his reputation mostly exists in sinnoh.[break][break]

"kidding. yes, we get our fair share of pranks. we play some back, sometimes."[break][break]

assisting ollie, lance grabs the large net and works with his fellow ranger captain to toss it over the pokemon.

[break][break] he wasn't sure what it was, but something about LANCE VOLLANS made it seem like he wasn't the prank type. maybe it was the fishing adventures that they'd shared with boruta maher.

[break][break] speaking of — was the rustboro captain the pranking type?

[break][break] "maybe we could play a prank on bo." his lips twist into a mischievous grin. "catch him off guard."

[break][break] in the meantime, while his tropius was attracting some of the wooloo towards their net with the sweet-smelling air, ollie's pikachu and zangoose were chasing the rest of them towards them. electricity crackled behind the mouse as one of the wooloo squeaked with surprise at having thunder wave run along their feet, while the zangoose uses aerial ace to make sure no other wooloo cross the boundary.
