It was time to challenge part of the Elite 4 again. [break][break]

She had never faced off against Katherine before but she knew the woman earned her spot for a good reason as she heard plenty of people complimenting her prowess in battle. [break][break]

So she couldn't afford to hold back against her, not even for a second or the woman would threaten to destroy her team entirely. She walked in silently into the Fox's den and looked at her in the eye. "Hello Katherine. Are you ready?" wishing she could still forget unpleasent things as the aqua assembly still lingered in her mind. [break][break]

She sent out her Primarina, as the Pokémon was her trusty companion through thick and thin.

How exciting.

At long last, a challenger. Katherine barely remembered what her chamber looked like, so this occasion will serve as a nice reminder. The ceiling, the floor and every wall are decorated with mirrors that reflect the elite four's image.

It's reminiscent of her old gym, only smaller, "Of course. I've been waiting for this, Melody."
[break][break]
Her Mimikyu escapes the confines of its Pokeball, settling upon a mirror tile. It stares blankly at the Primarina, eerily allowing its beady eyes to remain glued to the fellow fairy-type.

Ironically enough, the recent assembly also lingered in the Malevolent's mind. Whether that needs to be a reason of concern for Melody, however, remains to be determined.

"Have you really? I'll be honest I'm most nervous for your challenge. MATIAS SILPH was easy." she asks as Melody took a quick glance around to room. Her chamber was eerily beautiful to Melody, the mirrors were all pristine, not a single smudge on a single one. She surmised that Katherine ran a tight ship. [break][break]

The Mimikyu join's Primarina on the stage and Melody grins as she guessed Katherine was letting her take the first move. "Primarina! Adagio!" she orders as Melody as Primarina hides her face behind her fin for a moment as the air suddenly got a lot cooler in the room. Primarina then removes her fin from her face, releasing a powerful gust of wind with chunks of ice broken up into it as she uses ICY WIND in an attempt to temporarily lower Mimikyu's speed as melody knew Primarina wasn't the most agile of pokemon.

There's a hint of surprise in her tone— manufactured, made-up and absolutely disingenuous. It's always been hard to trace where Katherine's sarcasm begins and where her true intentions lie.

"It's only a challenge, Melody. Breathe in."

Her word of advice comes when the ICY WIND is called upon. Mimikyu, naturally, continues to advance. A snap of its trainer's fingers is enough to alert it of what's next, "Adagio, was it? You too then, Spook."

The COPYCAT breathes its own ICY WIND, intent on slowing down the Primarina further-- just as she had slowed it. Fortunately, its own DISGUISE protects it from the initial damage of the move.

Step by step, it continues to close the distance between itself and its opponent.

The icy wind is returned as Mimikyu uses copycat to steal the move from Primarina. The ice pelts against her body, icing portions of her fens to make it harder for her to move around as the temperature in the room began to lower. [break][break]

Melody had hoped to lower Mimikyu's speed but it seemed like katherine was going to be content to do the same and keep it equal. "Primarina! Crescendo!" A flurry of petals surround primarina's body enhancing it's ATTACK AND DEFENSIVE STATS for the next turn. [break][break]

"Fire!" She says as the flurry of petals flies towards the mimic with a powerful gust of wind as the petals follow suit to try and pelt the Mimikyu's body and hopefully keep it away from closing the distance. But she already started to plan contingencies as Katherine was most likely going to navigate around that.

Short and sweet. Katherine doesn't need to ask for anything else from her Mimikyu. At least, not yet. She is content with asking the ghost-type to match the Primarina's pace and movements.

Its own SPRINGTIDE STORM comes out just in time to clash against that of Melody's Primarina's. Cherry blossom petals collide with one another, only strengthening the storm further; however, no damage is sustained.

The moves seem to cancel each other out mostly. "What's with all the weird orders? Is that how you train your pokemon?"

Mimikyu continues to advance. It is almost close enough.

Was her plan to just keep doing this over and over? Melody doubted it, that was too simple of a strategy for Katherine. [break][break]

Katherine's question fills up the gaps of silence between each order. "I-." she said wondering if she should even share it but deciding to take a leap of faith with the Elite 4 member. "It is. I use musical terms to describe what I want them to do." [break][break]

She says as there was a purpose behind it. "It makes it harder for people to know what I told my Pokémon to do. Typically only ever doesn't work when people know musical terms." she says as she refocuses herself onto the battle at hand. If Katherine was using copycat to copy the last move used...maybe she just had to keep the pressure on? She couldn't copy all of it could she? [break][break]

"Primarina! Rondo!" she orders as Primarina begins to use SPARKLING ARIA, launching the bubbles into the space above to hover. However after a few seconds another move is used, Melody's Primarina begins to use PSYCHIC to grab the bubbles that hung into the air and pelt them down onto the Mimikyu

It was interesting. She heard of other trainers who employed similar tactics, but none appealed to her enough to make such effort appear worthwhile. Her train of thought is cut short when the bubbles emerge, forcing both her and Mimikyu to react.

They were finally close enough, weren't they?

"Hide. Show yourself when you're ready, Spook." The order comes out just in time, prompting the ghost-type to utilize its ability to PLAY ROUGH to spread smoke across the field, obscuring its location. Through leaps and jumps, it proceeds to zig-zag in an effort to reach the Primarina with its tail already glowing with an emerald hue.

The WOOD HAMMER comes crashing down fast, dispelling the smoke in the process.

Mimikyu suddenly obscured the field, hiding it's presence within and moving quickly in an attempt to keep primarina guessing as to where it's location was before suddenly. [break][break]

It was right on top of her, slamming down a wood hammer attack with it's tail scoring a direct hit onto primarina. Melody grimmaced as she saw the primarina take the hit head on "Shit." the only upside was that Mimikyu takes damage from that move as well. [break][break]

She'd have to take care of the mimikyu's speed one way or another, she suddenly got an idea by looking at the water that splattered on the floor during their earlier attack. "Adagio the floor primarina!" she orders as primarina unleashes a gust of freezing winds (ICY WIND) low to the ground, causing the pools of water to freeze into random spots of slick ice making it harder for anyone to navigate around. Luckily it'd only affect one pokemon as Primarina primarily stayed in one spot. "Rondo again!" [break][break]

Primarina lifted her nose into the air, creating a massive bubble (Sparkling aria) that after a few seconds would then pop, sending a concentrated blow of bubbles that followed Mimikyu

Katherine's Mimikyu has no intention of allowing its opponent to change their field's terrain so easily, or at least not without a price to pay. The doll-like pokemon strikes as the ICY WIND ensues.

After all, it was already right next to her. It had no reason to avoid close contact with the water-type.
[break][break]
Once more, Mimikyu's tail would glow with a spectral, purple hue before morphing into a claw (SHADOW CLAW) in an attempt to strike at Melody's Primarina again. It is relentless, even as patches of ice begin to coat the field. It is unforgiving, even as the bubble comes to life-- showing no fear.

Then again, it's hard to tell what it's feeling when it has a disguise covering it. The SHADOW CLAW repeats itself. For as long as Primarina remains by Mimikyu's side, it will strike.

But the question remains, which of them will fall first?

Mimikyu continued to chip away at Primarina, proving his speed to be incredible. She should've expected it since Katherine rightfully earned her spot amongst the best of the best. [break][break]

"Move back! Crescendo!" She orders as Primarina slides backwards to the section of the arena not frozen. She used HYDRO CANNON the already powerful move even further enhanced by TORRENT [break][break]

"Primarina!" she orders without giving a command as she was worried her primarina would fall too suddenly. "Let's do it! Song of healing!" she orders as Melody orders Primarina to use their z-move. Primarina begans to sing a note as a pillar of water would erupt from her as it splattered onto the nearby mirrors. [break][break]

However the move itself wouldn't do very much damage at all since it was not a move meant to attack, but to repair. As the pillar of water collapsed, Primarina would have several rings of water surrounding her body as AQUA RING was in effect now. [break][break]

Yet as her body began to heal from its injuries. Primarina was exhausted not only by using hydro cannon, but also from the Z-MOVE. Leaving her open for a counter attack

The stream of water launches Mimikyu back a fair amount of distance before Primarina herself slides back, taking advantage of the ice Melody and she masterfully crafted for their arena. Their reflections are mirrored in each of the chamber's mirror walls, making this quite the spectacle.

It's an odd order, but one that doll-like pokemon follows all the same. It is nothing if not obedient. It leaps into the pillar of water and sustains damage from that too, collapsing when it finally reaches the floor again. It appears to be on the verge of fainting, so close to its defeat, yet...

A PAIN SPLIT orb splits from the Water-Type as an identical, albeit smaller one, splits from Mimikyu itself. The two combine and separate into equal halves, returning to their original owners. Mimikyu is reinvigorated then, aflush with life once more. "Let's keep it going then, hrm?"

The ghost's shadow creeps on the floor, reflected in several different directions to make the attack all the more difficult to anticipate and dodge. Then, it strikes with a swift SHADOW SNEAK.

Holy hell this Mimikyu was such a shitter. [break][break]

Right as Melody seemed to have the Mimikyu on the ropes, katherine already was one step ahead of her. The PAIN SPLIT leeching away at Primarina's recently restored vitality and taking it for itself. How infuriating. [break][break]

But she had to keep a lid on it, she couldn't let her emotions cloud her judgement. The SHADOW SNEAK lands on primarina, clobbering away at the Diva Pokémon as she had been left wide open. The AQUA RING still persisting, restoring her health slightly yet some marks had not yet healed from the ghost's fury. [break][break]

"That's one hell of a pokemon." she says complimenting Katherine's Pokémon. [break][break]

"Let's switch things up a bit then. Tempo change!" she calls out as Primarina explodes with a cloud of pink mist, setting up a MISTY TERRAIN that obscured the mirrors of the room creating an illusion of endless pink fog as they reflected the fog endlessly. "Slide around! sharp!" she orders as Primarina moves from her spot, attempting to hide in the fog. [break][break]

yet a burst of psychic energy emits outwards from the pokemon, not affecting the fog but looking to toss Mimikyu outwards and away from her. "You know in my gym challenges, I was used to being the attacker. Feels weird being on defense." she comments as Katherine got to experience the challenge for herself.

The MISTY TERRAIN spreads across the field smoothly, filling the arena with a mystical, pink haze that Primarina uses to obscure her location.

Interesting. Katherine assumes they're taking the defensive once more, a decision she has no qualms about.

The Mimikyu replicates the blast of psychic energy with its COPYCAT method, intent on clashing against that of Primarina's own to protect itself; its piercing, beady eyes stare at where the Primarina once stood. Unfortunately, it can't locate her easily in the mist, so it holds still.

"Keep moving," Katherine orders before the ghost-type begins to slide around as well, seemingly following no rhythm or pace. Even now, it retains its focus and remains alert.

"I don't really have a preference, I think," or does she? She was usually on the offensive, but that's not to say that she couldn't respond reactively. In fact, there was a benefit to it, if anything. "But if I had to choose, I suppose I slightly prefer to dictate the pace myself."

What a surprise. Who would've thought that Katherine Fairburne wouldn't appreciate being led?
