The summer sun had already reached its peak in the sky and started to make its evening descent as wispy clouds danced lazily. It had been a long few days for Reign; a well-known Sinnoh model that now found herself relocating to the beautiful region. She had decided it was time for a change. No longer accepting of the life she had been pushed into since her birth, she was now taking control of her future. The modeling career had brought her great fame and money behind it – but it had been given to her. Her mother was a world-renowned supermodel and it had always been forced upon her that her dainty feet into her mother’s six-inch Louboutin heels. Yet, she never had a love for the art as her mother did. In fact, she always resented it. Resented it being forced down her throw. Resented it for its critical image of a woman’s body. Resented it for its vicious treatment of its models in the industry. Resented the way her mother kept right reigns on what she consumed. Resented it for the perverted men behind the camera lenses that often tried, some succeeding, in taking advantage of her. Just the thought would make her belly churn in anxiety to be photographed by a man, which often she requested for a female instead when she was booked for a gig.

There was a point where she thought she would be content with being her parents’ trophy daughter, but no longer. She had taken six months to study for her trainer’s license. She did so in private and behind everyone’s back, except for her manager, who had been in her life as far back as she could remember. She was like a second mother to her, wasting no time in fitting a private tutor in her schedule to learn all the fundamentals of pokemon. She had supported her choice whole-heartedly and Reign was grateful for that. Now with her trainer’s license in hand, Reign knew nothing more could hold her back. She had announced the decision yesterday; it came as much of a surprise to her family, but for the most part she had everyone’s support apart from her spiteful mother. She cursed, scream, and pleaded with Reign to rethink her decision all in a few breaths but Reign stood firm. She would not bend to her mother’s manipulation tactics this time. She hadn’t heard from her since then, but Reign would not let that deter her.

Instead, she put her business first, spending majority of her morning preparing for her day. Linda, her manager, had shopped for whatever essentials she might need out in the wilderness. She was nervous for Reign, but excitement swirled inside of Reign’s flawless frame. She had never been unattended without a bodyguard, an assistant, or even those she called “friends” accompanying her. She should have been scared, terrified even, but not even a glimmer of fear danced in her ruby hues. Her pouty red tinted lips curled into a soft smile on her normally blank face. Her gaze was focused on the four shiny white and red metallic pokeballs that laid out in front of her. She hadn’t expected Linda to walk in with the set of balls, only one, a pokemon she had purchased months ahead of time from a world-famous breeder when she first made the decision to become a trainer. To see them all was a welcomed surprise, gifts from her family whom all wanted to be the first to gift a starter. She was amped to meet them as she stuffed them into her bag and tossed it over her shoulder. Checking to make sure she gathered everything she needed, she slipped her cell phone into her pocket and exited the luxury hotel that she had been her home for her time in Mauville. It would not be missed despite the polite staff and impeccable food.

Reign inhaled deeply as she stepped out of the indoor city, grateful for the burst of fresh air that was refreshing compared to the stuffiness that came with being in an indoor city. Benches stretched along the exterior lining and Reign found herself trekking towards one. She was excited to trail down the long dirt path of the route, but first things first – time to meet her pokemon. She finally stopped as she came to a bench that was shaded by a healthy leafy tree that provide ample shade from the beat of the sun. She slipped her bag off her shoulders and onto the seating, not used to having something dragging at her shoulders under than a luxury purse. It felt a bit heavy and was going to take some getting used – palates had not prepared her from the weight of having to carry basically your whole life on your shoulders.

Her small hand quickly unzipped the compartment where she had nestled her downsized pokeballs. Reign was happy she had marked each one with a little sticker to tell them apart and quickly grabbed the one with a cute little heart marking it. Reign tapped the middle button with a smile, expanding its size from compact. She pointed the ball outwards, trying to remember the lesson giving into her about releasing said pokemon. “Come on out.” Oh, how she had always wanted to say that. It filled her with such joy. Another tap and the ball popped open, spraying out a red energy beam that slammed into the earth before morphing its figure. The beam curved and twisted before it finally settled into a buneary. Its deep brown eyes stared curiously at Reign, blinking a few times as its ears twitched. “Aren’t you cute.” She cooed softly at the sight of the little rabbit pokemon. It was a gift from her grandfather, whom was a retired trainer himself. He had never been aware of her desire to partake in battles due, figuring she’d take after her mother due to her elite beauty. He was more than pleased with her decision. ‘A rabbit for my little rabbit.’ The card that came with the Buneary read, a cute little nickname her grandfather had always called her since birth. “I’m Reign,” She really didn’t even know what to say to the Buneary. Did trainers introduce themselves like this? Was she doing it right? “Nice to meet you, my little Usagi.” She squatted down so she was closer to the Buneary’s eye level, extending her arm in hopes that she would accept it. Instead, the buneary merely sniffed curiously, but didn’t budge from her spot.

Reign didn’t take it personal – she knew that some pokemon were timid and they had just met. Her expectations weren’t high for the next pokemon as she grabbed the ball with a star sticker. She repeated the same gesture with this ball, but this time the beam morphed into a galarian ponyta. She was in awe at the sight of the pokemon. They were rare, and Reign had only seen a few in her lifetime. She couldn’t keep the smile off her lips. “You are so beautiful, Pegasus.” The name came easily to her, happy with the choice of her manager. “I hope we can be friends.” She murmured, this time not attempting to reach out and stroke the pokemon. They would warm up in due time.

‘Please allow lots of room! Release in water if possible, not REQUIRED.’ This pokeball had came with a warning label, which is why Reign didn’t bother in marking it with a cute little sticker like the rest of her balls. “Step back everyone.” She warned the others, giving them a soft wave of her hand before she released the pokemon inside. She could only assume it was a water type due to the label warning and felt bad there was no water source within eyesight but decided to take a peep at what’s inside regardless. Her mouth fell agape at the sheer beauty of the Milotic that formed before her. She was huge, her long body towering over her and the rest of the team. Reign blinked in disbelief, almost at a loss for words. Her father just always have to outdo himself, didn’t he? “Serenity.” The word was barely audible as she almost felt intimidated under the hypnotic gaze of the Milotic. Did she even have a right to address her? Was she worthy of being such a pokemon’s trainer? “I’ll call you, Serenity.” She repeated, trying to find her confidence. “Welcome.”

A moon sticker was placed on her last pokeball. This she knew what lied inside, she had knew long time ago before she even announced to everyone that she wanted to be a trainer, who she wanted as a starter pokemon. While she was happy to have every single member of her team, this one she was extra excited about. As soon as her eyes landed on the small, fluffy little Eevee her heart melted. Their eyes locked for a few moments as her heart swelled with joy. It was a feeling that Reign had never felt before – something that her parents, her job, nothing had ever quite given her. She relished in it. Seeing the Eevee felt like reassurance that this is what she had wanted. That she could do this if she kept faith. She could obtain the status of a great trainer alongside this magnificent team. “Welcome to the team, Nyx.”

Reign should have been happy, ecstatic that she had not one starter but four now thanks to the generosity of her family that loved and adored her. Yet she didn’t. Instead those feelings were replaced by distress and frustration. She was overwhelmed with the thought that she now had numerous Pokémon to care for, when she was just expecting one for the time being. She didn’t even know the first thing about caring for the Pokémon gifted to her. She fiddled anxiously with her pink iPhone. Perfect french-tipped coffin shaped nails clashed against her screen as she texted her assistant frantically, requesting more supplies and specialty food for her team along with asking she be sent information to best properly care for them. She sighed, hitting the send button and stuffing her phone safely away to focus on the stretch of land before her. She had returned the rest of her team to the safety of their balls with the exception of Nyx. The little fluff of fur bounced happily along at her side, tongue flopping from her jawls and nose twitching to take in all the scents around her. She couldn’t help but let a smile grace her lips. Even despite the extra added stress, she still looked forward to her promising Pokémon adventure.

It was already turning out to be something special as the crackle of a flame caught the corner of her eye. A simple twist of her slender neck and her hues focused in on the creature in pleasant surprise. She blinked; was that a Ponyta? She had never seen the Kantonian Ponyta outside of a few minutes ago when she was erratically googling information on her new Pokémon and saw a comparison picture of the two next to each other. But it was no mistaking what it was. Had it not been for their difference in manes and its longer, lean legs there wouldn’t have been any difference between the one resting in her pokeball and the one trotting up to the stretch of lake that laid before it. Now she was nervous. Oh, how she wanted it. It was so adorable! This just simply had be fate, right? She couldn’t just pass up this chance! Yet, she had never had a “real” battle, only mock battles whenever her private tutor visited her. “Should we give it a shot?” Reign whispered down softly at Nyx, who only scared back at her with big curious brown eyes. Reign took a deep breath, swallowing her nerves. What better time than the present, she supposed.

Nyx was the only Pokémon she had been prepared for; she had all her moves memorized beforehand and a combination of moves her tutor advised her to use in a pinch. She wanted to use her; she had been so sure that her first battle would be alongside her. Reign was no fool howeever. A new trainer, but no fool. Her teacher had always stressed the importance of types and abilities when it came to a battle. So she wouldn’t make her first rookie mistake today. She dug into her bag, pulling out the Milotic pokeball that was easily recognizable from the warning label. “Come on out, Serenity.”
