[attr="class","skullbody"]Ha! Look at her go! Knuckles' blood pumped, adrenaline rushed, and excitement spiked with each strike she landed on the chimera. Who cared if this was a chimera designed to fight on par with the legends of old? It wasn't nothing! Not compared to her! As it leaped back, baring its teeth at her, she hopped from foot to foot and threw a few shadow punches. It was as if she was daring the Silvally to give her its all.[break][break]
Sunny did not like what he saw. Knuckles was still so young, so foolhardy, so convinced she was invincible. Her guard was completely down, and she was dealing with maybe the most dangerous Pokemon they've ever seen up to this point. He couldn't keep taking his breather. Not while she was in danger like this. Forcing power into his battered wings, and riding the fading remnants of his Tailwind, Sunny shot forward like a bat-shaped comet.[break][break]
It wasn't enough. The Silvally's hackles were raised and fangs were bared, yet Sunny wasn't even close yet. By the time it chose to attack, he'd be far too late. His breath was getting ragged. His wings were getting sore. The world seemed to slow as the Silvally's legs tensed up, clearly poised to strike. He tried harder, ever harder, to force more out of his body, but the wall of his natural limits was pushing against him.[break][break]
So Sunny pushed back.[break][break]
He could feel his body firming up, becoming stronger, more robust, more capable of forcing its way through the air at high velocity. His wings became sharper and thinner, slicing through the air like a knife through hot butter. It wasn't enough. He needed more power. His legs obliged, shifting into a second pair of wings. They all beat at once, propelling Sunny with enough force to leave a sonic boom in his wake. His ears pointed back, even them growing longer, sharper, more aerodynamic. Everything about him was geared for speed now. And with this extra thrust, Sunny just knew he'd make it! He crossed his wings across his body, preparing for impact.[break][break]
Just one problem. Aerial Ace
never missed.[break][break]
As Sunny bravely interposed himself between Silvally and Knuckles, he found himself mislead by the chimera's beautiful flourish. It zigged when Sunny expected it to zag, and its blade came down on Knuckles like an executioner's axe. The Riolu went flying, sliding over towards Isaac's current location in a daze. She was in no condition to fight anymore, and Isaac was quick to abandon his bike and run to her side.
"Knuckles! Damnit, are you-" he started.[break][break]
She rose a paw to silence him. Then, with what remained of her energy, she pointed over to Sunny. The Crobat had missed its chance to protect her, but it wouldn't miss his chance to avenge her. The while light of evolution surrounding him splintered away, revealing a deep purple body with brightly glowing wings. A second later they snapped open, slicing towards Silvally in a
CROSS POISON fueled by guilt.[break][break]
While a particularly pivotal moment in the fight, it was far from the only one. Mori, seeing the Slowking emerge with many of its surface bruises healed, put 2 and 2 together and realized he was a bigger threat than she feared. She didn't even wait for the light to fade from its Pokeball before swooping down towards it, trying to fling a
SHADOW BALL down before it could properly itself. If it was able to keep healing like this, things could get really bad![break][break]
Adrenaline's spores had been incinerated by Absol's flame, though its own attack and reinforced cellular structure at least managed to cushion the blow in turn. Overall, it was a "stalemate," but one that Adrenaline knew would spell her defeat if she kept pushing. Luckily, there was a sea urchin hidden beneath her. She squatted down, serving as a living spring to flip the Pincurchin towards the Absol's face. Its body sparked and bristled, a clear sign of another Zing Zap . . . but the melee strike never came. Instead, the crafty urchin spewed a powerful
BUBBLEBEAM, hoping to catch its foe offguard. Adrenaline waited to see if the Absol tried to dodge, then launched a
POLLEN PUFF in the direction it was heading.[break][break]
That left the bike crew, who had now been joined by a weak and weary Riolu. They were also looking like perfect targets, the ranger ordering his Noivern to disable their route of escape from above. Isaac was right in the range of its sonic assault, and with him still tending to Knuckles he was in no position to move. Could this be checkmate?[break][break]
A pair of fuzzy hands clamped over his ears said otherwise. Shockmaster had run over to them as soon as Noivern's shadow loomed over Isaac, and she wasn't about to let her trainer wither under an attack that she was more than capable of taking. She looked down at him, a cocky grin on her face.[break][break]
And then that grin turned into a wince. She shoved Isaac away, falling to her knees as the Supersonic frequencies started getting to her mind. It was becoming harder to tell left from right, friend from foe. And every muscle of her body was screaming a demand; release. Her shout of agony turned into a war cry as
DISCHARGE erupted out from her body. The battlefield at large was safe, Coulomb's spines drawing it in like a Lightningrod instead. However, up in the sky, the Noivern wasn't so lucky; he'd be right in the splash zone.[break][break]
Worse still, neither was Isaac's bike. It started to spark and shake violently as Shockmaster's Discharge flowed freely into it. Isaac's eyes widened in shock as he held Knuckles close, returning her to her Pokeball.
"Shit shit shit shit shit!" Isaac said, breaking out into a full-tilt run. If he didn't-[break][break]
An explosion. The symbol of Isaac's freedom from his old life was now little more than a burnt husk of twisted metal.
