But this time he was pretty sure he’d be able to find what he was looking for. The problem here was that he needed… what, two of a certain ‘mon and here’s to hoping he’d be able to find them right away?[break][break]

Sighing, he then checked to make sure he had enough Pokéballs on him, just in case he did run into those three that he was looking for. It had been a while since he’d rubbed his nose into the grindstone looking for certain Pokémon, but at least he wasn’t in Meteor Falls for once![break][break]

last time

she was here, leo had dragged her along on his quest for a flying type pokémon for her. she'd insisted it was fine, that she wouldn't need any pokémon other than meteoro for flight, and eventually their failure to find a togekiss had made them turn to the best pâtisserie in rustboro and call it a day.

today, she's back not to hunt for pokémon, but on another errant for the lab. lately the scientists in mossdeep had been requesting weirder and weirder materials to conduct their experiments, and as the new girl rhian was expected to fulfill these tasks. despite being around for over a month already.

luckily for her, leo had let her borrow mr. grandpa for this trip.

the drampa lands near a familiar-looking man whose name she can't recall. "hello!" rhian approaches the figure. with each step, she feels less confident about knowing him at all. there is definitely something about his face that looks vaguely familiar, but at the same time she's certain she doesn't know him at all.

“Oh, I didn’t see you there,” Alexei began—secretly thankful he’d replied in his normal voice instead of Irina’s, because shit that would’ve been extremely awkward if she caught him and… made the connection.[break][break]

Thankfully he was quick on the fly to adapt, and he looked up in time to see a familiar face—but he couldn’t exactly let slip that they’d already met before, right?[break][break]

“What makes you say?” he asks her curiously, wondering what she could possibly mean by that. “Do I… look familiar to you?” he adds a few moments later, before seeing a Lairon that had wandered their way.[break][break]

It was a shame he already had one.[break][break]

Shaking his head in the Lairon’s direction, he then turned back to where she was ‘gathering some samples’, as she’d said.[break][break]

“I was hopefully looking for Ralts… and to think I’m looking for two of them! Gardevoir and Gallade are very useful as a pair…” he explained, wondering if his companion was also looking for the same thing.[break][break]

“What are you looking for, exactly? Maybe I can help?” he offered a few moments later.

doesn't falter even when the laughter turns into a less lively smile. "mm," she hums, deep in thought, but quickly shakes the thought off. "a little, yeah. must just be my imagination though!"

she notices the man looking down at the same patch of rock and earth (though earth was technically rock). it gives her a chance to look at him more closely, though his words would be what catches her attention the most.

as unaware as she is about competitive battle strategies and the like, she's not so sure about the utility about both a gardevoir and a gallade together. the idea sounds adorable and that's what rhian refers to when she answers. "you're right; like a princess and her prince."

the sudowoodoo standing still only a few feet away is taken in as part of the scenery. three time now that she's stumbled upon one in this very route and she still thinks it to be a normal tree. perhaps even the same tree.

“Well, if it’s rocks then surely something’s got to be unboring about it, right?” he mused out loud, unable to stop himself a few moments later. It didn’t take too long for two Pokémon to wander into their midst, and from the looks of things one of them was wielding a… something that looked suspiciously like a marker pen?![break][break]

What in the ever-loving hell.[break][break]

“Am I seeing things, or does that big pink marshmallow headed your way have a marker pen in one of its hands?” he asked her, rummaging around in his pockets and pulling out a blue-hued Lure Ball and tossing it forward.[break][break]

“Shuyin, can you deal with it? But don’t go overboard, I want it,” he said to the Mudkip that appeared from the red flash of light, shaking its head as it was unceremoniously awoken from its nap. “Sorry,” he adds a few moments later before the Water-type lets out a disgruntled noise.[break][break]

None too soon did the Mudkip react because the Rockruff had somehow managed to toss a large boulder right at the Water-type! A sudden powerful blast of water shot the Rock Throw attack down in no time flat, to be followed up with a second torrential blast of water aimed right at the canine.[break][break]

“What did I tell you about going too hard?” he called out to the Mudkip, who was in the middle of trying to wear down the Rockruff as it came in close for a Crunch attack. “Don’t overdo it—“[break][break]

The Mudkip wasn’t going to let this down, though, and quickly let out another torrential burst of water, catching the Rockruff in mid-open bite, watching as it soared through the air and crashed into a rock not too far away.[break][break]

“Rough,” he muttered, checking his pockets for an empty Pokéball and throwing it at the Rockruff, hoping it stayed inside.
