Noah Really had no idea just how much volunteer work he would be doing when he joined the Rangers, he knew there would be some but surely he didn't think it would almost 50% of what he was doing. This time in particular he was helping out what felt like some form of refugee camps for injured people and pokemon alike, with everything that went on and was still going on the region. The government had set out checkpoints throughout a lot of the many cities for people to look for help and safety and that was where Noah had been sent today.[break][break]

Using some abandoned warehouses as the base for one of the many checkpoints plotted throughout Slateport, it made sense to have one here at least, the open spaces with shelters already made, and it was close to the outskirts of the city where the more unfortunate and isolated citizens lived, Noah only assuming that Rangers were also placed here due to the dodgy and illegal activities that happened around. Having someone with some combat training and first aid would come in handy, trying to fill all the safety holes that could become a problem. [break][break]

Thankfully he wasn't to be here alone. He had been told that Hailee Jacobs and their great Ranger Captain Tam Fawley would also be taking it upon himself to help out. Perhaps he had been contacted by someone even more higher up and wanted someone of high status taking care of a checkpoint that used the government money in such a volatile area. It was a very uneasy time to be in Hoenn and being careful with their limited equipment and resources, they never knew what could happen next.[break][break]

He’s not the type of person anyone would expect to see volunteering at a place like this. He does not seem kind. He does not seem nice. He does not smile. Yet, while all of these things might be true, there’s still a box in his hands, and in it there’s a first aid kit along with medicine for people and pokémon alike. What little the League could spare.

To make up for the sheer lack of resources, his Chansey stands next to him, and it’s eagerly that she waves at both Noah Camus and Hailee Jacobs when spotting them nearby.

”Hey.” In contrast with his pokémon, Tam is calm as ever, and it’s as soon as he reaches his side that he passes the box to Noah. ”There’s some meds in there for those who need it. Chansey, can you make rounds with LIFE DEW?”

The pokémon does her best attempt at saluting him, but her arms are simply too short. Wasting no time, she waddles off.

This is the least they can do. It’s not enough, Tam knows as much.

Hailee quickly made her way back and forth through the relief camp assisting where she was needed. It was mostly carrying boxes of medical supplies to the volunteer nurses that were on deck. Even Raijin was flying around helping where he could. Even if it meant letting little kids ruffle his fur to help them feel better. [break][break]

Hailee didn't have any healing pokémon so she couldn't actually assist in that way with medical treatment. But when one of the nurses would ask her to help them bandage someone or a pokémon here and there she'd make sure she was available to assist. She was sure this was hard for all of them. Specifically the volunteer staff. [break][break]

They were short on hands and they had to work long shifts because there seemed to be a never-ending amount of chaos to sort through. That's why the rangers were here. To offer aid in any way they could. "Phew," Hailee breathed as she finally had a moment to stand still. Looking around she saw Noah and Tam. [break][break]

They all had their hands filled trying to help out as well. So after a little break Hailee walked towards them to see if there was anything she could help out with. "There’s some meds in there for those who need it. Chansey, can you make rounds with LIFE DEW?” Tam asked his Chansey who did her best to salute him but her arms were too short. She waddled off and Hailee found herself pursing her lips. [break][break]

"You know..." she said as she tapped a manicured nail against her chin. "She reminds me of Mochi." Hailee said as she turned to Tam. "Because she's so round and bouncy." She elaborated with a smile. "Oh!" she said as she clasped her hands together. "That's a cute name, Mochi. You should name her that. It's really cute. I'm sure she'll love it." Hailee said with a confidant nod. "You're welcome." [break][break]

Her stomach lightly grumbled and she pat it. "Dang, I'd love some Mochi right about now actually." she said as her mind drifted to her third love, food. "You guys need any help with anything over here?" She asked as she got her mind right back on track. If she started thinking about food now then she'd never get back to work.

Noah would do exactly what he was told by Tam, taking the box and going around dropping off supplies for who and where it was needed, he didn't have any pokemon with healing capabilities so that was what he could do right now. So he had the basic first aid training that all Rangers had to go through but sometimes that wasn't enough, helping bandage someone up or even holding someone down so treatment could be started, it was rough work out there right now. [break][break]

There were some bright spots here and there though, seeing pokemon and people come together was always something that could bring joy to Noah, such were rare occasions lately around Hoenn and he'd take any good imagery that he could take. Even seeing Hailee have her small interaction with Tam was something that made the young ranger smile, it was rare for Noah to see someone so openly speak to their captain like that, that was not even the extent of it. Hailee Jacobs was now nicknaming Tam Fawley 's pokemon, truly something out of this world.[break][break]

Noah would quietly keep to himself and to his rounds, this time with a smile on his face and a glint of hope in his eyes, as far as he was aware he just witnessed the most amazing interaction of his life and nothing could change that at all, nothing could go wrong today, no jinxing anything, no rain, no nothing, RIGHT!? Hoenn (Azul and Arti) had nothing bad planned for the trio today, other than the many injured people... Hahahaaaaaa[break][break]

Just as is as if unwritten law in Hoenn, no matter how well anyone does things, no matter how much they prepare, no matter how much effort they put, at some point, suddenly and unexpectedly, everything will turn to chaos.

Today, at the refugee camp, this much will soon be proven to be true.
[break][break]
”Mochi, huh?” Tam muses, considering Hailee Jacobs’s suggestion while watching his Chansey waddle away to offer a LIFE DEW to the nearest group of injured pokémon. If only for a second, right there and then, there’s the slightest of smiles illuminating his expression. ”Sure. Mochi it is.”

And then, a second later, it’s as if the universe itself disagrees with his decision.
[break][break]
There’s a familiar crackling in the air, and when looking at the pokémon, they suddenly seem uneasy. Mochi’s LIFE DEW drops to the ground, and she then turns around to look at Tam, frantically waving her little arms.

He knows then. He understands.
[break][break]
”Noah. Hailee.” Too little, too late. He calls to his rangers just as the Space-Time Distortion activates. The sky turns dark, swirling with energy, and around them, the membrane that surrounds the distortion can be seen. Shit.

”Wild pokémon are about to appear. Protect everyone.”
[break][break]
This particular command is not just for the pair of rangers, but also for the Tyranitar that is released from her pokéball there and then. Lily.

She roars, mighty and proud, and smacking the ground with her powerful tail, she raises a STONE EDGE to act as a barrier just as a strange Typhlosion appears.

More unusual pokémon do so as well.

"Sure. Mochi it is.” Hailee nodded pleased that Tam liked the little nickname she gave his pokémon. She didn't consider herself a savant or anything when it came to naming pokémon but she did think the names she named her own were pretty good. However nothing was meant to last here in Hoenn. [break][break]

The pokémon around them notice it first. Then the hair on Hailee's neck and arms sticks up and brings back a familiar disturbing sensation. Raijin quickly flies back back to her with panic in his eyes. "What is it?" Hailee asked though she felt like she knew the answer. She'd felt this feeling before. [break][break]

"Noah. Hailee.” Tam called but things were already in motion. The familiar darkening of the skies, the cracking of energy in the air, the visible dome of distortion that forms. It's another one of those space-time rifts or distortions that have been appearing around Hoenn spontaneously. Hailee had been in one before with Lilligant which ended up transforming into a Hisuian Lilligant when interacting with the distortion. [break][break]

"Wild pokémon are about to appear. Protect everyone.” Tam's orders were sharp and to the point. "R-right." Hailee said as she quickly summoned another pokeball from her belt. Tossing it out her Cottonee, Pipin appeared and she pointed towards the people. "We're gonna try and round them up and get them inside safely."[break][break]

After all this relief station was built for people that needed to be relocated due to the primal nodes or who just had their houses and things destroyed due to Necrozma's recent attacks. Either way, they weren't in any position do deal with crazed wild pokémon that show up in these distortions. "Raijin, Pipin, help me out and keep everyone safe." she said as she began to run towards people and the staff trying to evacuate people into the building. "Alright everyone let's move it, but don't push!"

Little did they know that the real way to have a space-time distortion appearing was having Tam smile, scientifically proven right on this day and right on this thread, simply no way to even argue against this unbelievable find. The moment Tam called out to Noah and Hailee, he knew something bad was about to go down and honestly that just sounded how Hoenn was. They had been healing people and helping refugees, but not even the region wanted to side with them.[break][break]

"C-captain!" Noah would confirm his captain's orders by throwing his own pokeball into the fray, and his own Tyranitar coming out with a roar, Titan was now on the case along with Tam's Tyranitar. This had been the first time that Noah would be dealing with a space-time distortion, his knowledge being small tid bits he would have heard or read from reports, all he knew was that he didn't like the feeling he was getting at all.[break][break]

As Hailee cleared people into safety and lily stayed on the defensive, it was time for Noah to do his job and go on the offensive and help out Lily. "Let's shake things up!" Noah would command Titan by pointing towards the strange Typhlosion. Titan would charge towards the weird pokemon with a bodycheck and use Earthquake, not knowing what would exactly happen but still having the hopes of leaving an opening for either Hailee or Tam to join the scuffle.[break][break]

”Just be careful with the injured.” Tam tells Hailee Jacobs when she declares that she’ll help get everyone inside safely. Something that she probably already knows well, but that he makes sure to reiterate because of the dangers of the situation they’re in.

It could be a dire situation, but in Tam’s experience, as long as they remain calm and think things through, they should be able to deal with the distortion just fine until it fades completely. It’s just a matter of being able to withstand it until the very last moment.

The way the ground begins to shake sure doesn’t help with this.
[break][break]
Tam doesn’t blame Noah, but the sudden EARTHQUAKE startles some of the refugees, leaving the ranger captain himself to hold onto a nearby pole for the sake of not losing his footing. The EARTHQUAKE brings back memories, but he tries to push them away. There’s a reason why he hasn’t allowed Lily to use moves like those for years now.

”Noah, Have Titan be careful, a lot of the structures here aren’t stable.”
[break][break]
It’s a temporary camp. It would be bad if one of the buildings were to collapse.

At least the attack did deal with the Typhlosion, but soon enough, more pokémon come.

”We just need to hold them back until the distortion fades.”
[break][break]
Just as Tam says this, Lily makes sure to BULLDOZE a strange pokémon of long violet body and sharp claws. 'Sneasler', Tam recalls from reading reports.

"Just be careful with the injured.” the words of caution from her Captain echoed in her ear as she worked with the staff to assist the relocation of the injured. Hailee was already well aware of this fact. But the sinking dread and panic budding in her stomach made her painfully aware that she could mess up and these people she was trying to protect could pay the price for her failure. [break][break]

It was like Mt.Pyre all over again. But Hailee didn't want to be helpless like she was back then. With a deep breath she steeled herself. If her Captain had taught her anything it was that remaining calm and collected in times like this would produce better results. Raijin worked to help be a guiding light towards the safety of the bunker. Meanwhile Hailee and Pipin tried their best to help people along. [break][break]

Things were going smoothly till and EARTHQUAKE rocked the foundation and people began to panic. Hailee herself had to brace herself against a wall. "P-please don't panic everyone. Just move into the bunker as swiftly as possible." she tried to reassure them. Suddenly a piercing ROAR sounded as more and more pokémon began to appear because of the distortion. [break][break]

Hailee's eyes widened as she snapped her head back to stare at the massive steel body of an enraged AGGRON targeting the group of people trying to retreat safely inside. Flashbacks of Mt.Pyre left Hailee frozen for a moment till shrieks reached her ear. "Get the rest of them inside. I'll handle this." Hailee said to the staff she was assisting.[break][break]

Unfortunately the ROAR from the Aggron caused Pipin to retreat back into their pokeball. Instead Misha was present and assessing the situation. The parallel of Mt.Pyre and what was happening now wasn't lost on the both of them. Hailee's nails dug into her palms as she balled her hands into a fist at her side. "We gotta distract it Mischa." Mischa understood well despite the nervousness that he felt. Either way they had a job to do.
