[break]

[break][break]
Sarika was always a city girl, having spent the majority of her childhood growing up in Motostoke city within the region of Galar. Her parents were largely absent for large chunks of her life, due to the fact that her mother was the assistant manager of a popular hotel chain, and her father was a medical school professor at a major university within the city. She was an unruly child and highly rebellious, which got her in trouble in school a lot and caused her parents a lot of unnecessary headaches.
[break][break]
Part of it was because she had a problem with authority figures, but also because her parents weren't around often enough to enforce good behavior. She was high stung and temperamental, and she did not take well to being told what to do. She didn't really respect the authority of the various babysitters, who her parents had hired to look after her. This happened most often when they couldn't make it home because they were needed at work for extra hours.
[break][break]
She had a few friends in school but she didn't get to see them outside of school often because she was frequently being grounded by her parents. She got her first pokemon right around time she was in middle school. It all happened when a new transfer student to her school made fun of her for being a ginger...ie her red hair. Sarika was never one to let insults go, and she called the girl an ugly c-word roughly around the same time her professor walked into the room to begin class...and he sent her straight to the principal's office.
[break][break]
The principal in turn told her that if she couldn't behave at school she didn't deserve to be there. He didn't expel her for swearing, but he did suspend her for the day. With nothing better to do, she decided to head for the local park and hang out there for a while. The normally quiet park wasn't so quiet when she got there though, and the reason why became apparently when she saw licks of flame spouting above one section of the walkway.
[break][break]
A handful of people were standing back away from it with terrified looks on their faces. She walked over to see what was going on, and was treated to the sight of two bug pokemon locked into an intense battle. Nobody wanted to get near the flames, and it was lucky flames hadn't made it beyond the paved walkway or there could have been a serious fire in the park. Sarika looked from person-to-person but none of them were trainers.
[break][break]
One was a grandmother out with her 6-year-old granddaughter, another was a middle-aged businessman, and the other two were a pair of teenagers who were both fascinated and terrified of the scene that had unfolded in front of them. Sarika realized the danger though, because city park was next to a block full of apartment buildings. Her first thought was to pick them up and knock their heads together for causing such danger to the public at large. However, the wild pokemon didn't seem the type to see reason and she didn't actually want to harm them. She decided to settle for a less violent approach.
[break][break]
Sarika had brought her lunch along with her, and threw half a leppa berry sandwich between them to get their attention. It didn't go as planned. The sizzlipede incinerated the sandwich by accident because he had been trying to attack his rival, which was a wild venipede. They both proceeded to ignore her after that and go back to fighting.
[break][break]
Sarika had more food in her lunchbox, but she realized they'd just fight over it. Sarika let them fight it out for a short while as she divested her backpack of all her things and set them along the ledge of a nearby flowerbed. She filled her backpack with the loam soil from the flowerbed. By that time, the two teenage bystanders had taken off to get help. Sarika didn't waste anytime and picked up her soil-filled backpack before promptly dumping it on the flaming-spewing sizzlipede.
[break][break]
With the sizzlipede mostly covered in damp loam soil, the flames of its ember attack were doused. Oddly enough, it didn't seem to have the strength to get rid of the soil that weighed it down. Sarika found herself being stared down by the sizzlipede's rival. The burned and blackened venipede was not in good condition and slumped on the ground with its eyes half-closed. Both pokemon were exhausted from the extended fight, which had gone on for quite some time before Sarika had arrived.
[break][break]
Sarika went for the sizzlipede first, and brushed several inches of wet soil off of it, though there was still an inch and a half that was pretty caked on. The sizzlipede naturally tried to use its ember attack for self defense but just didn't have the energy, and the moist soil didn't help either. Sarika shoved it into her dirty backpack, and then asked the older woman if she could have the plastic bag that was hanging off the edge of her walker. The old lady was more than happy to give it to her for helping out.
[break][break]
Sarika ended up collecting her things in the plastic bag that she looped over her wrist. With the exhausted sizzlipede in her backpack and the equally exhausted venipede in her arms with her coat wrapped around it, Sarika ended up walking the two blocks where she had seen a pokemon center. She visited the park frequently in her spare time and had passed by the pokemon center many times before but had never had a reason to go in.
[break][break]
When she arrived, the exhausted pokemon were quickly carted off into one of the back rooms. They asked for her pokemon's pokeballs. She was in a hurry to get home and tell her family what had happened, and didn't bother to correct them about the matter of the pokemon's ownership. She just stated that she didn't have pokeballs for them. Sarika was told to come back the next day for them, and the nurse assured her they would be taken care of.
[break][break]
Sarika had school the very next day, and wasn't able to pick them up until late afternoon when her classes were finally over for the day. When she did, they handed her a pair of pokeballs they had freely provided and asked her for her personal details. Name, age, address, all her basic personal information. She had given them her name the day before but not much more than that.
[break][break]
She thought it was just information she needed to give in order to pick them up, though it did seem oddly involved. She was shocked when the nurse told her that they had just registered the pokemon and accompanying pokeballs to her, and she was officially in the system. They had done it so that if she came in and her pokemon needed healing, they would be able to look up her info. The nurse hadn't questioned whether she was the pokemon's official owner and had assumed either they were the type of pokemon that didn't like to stay in pokeballs for long, or that Sarika hadn't had them with her.
[break][break]
She soon discovered she had taken on a whole lot of responsibility that she hadn't expected. For one thing, neither of pokemon were grateful for her help...after all they had lost their freedom and territories within the park. Also, they were natural rivals and kept starting fights if she ever let them out at the same time. She tried to divide her time between them when she wasn't at school, but she found herself favoring the fiery sizzlipede. The sizzlipede seemed to be more of a kindred spirit in terms of temperament.
[break][break]
By the time she had reached high school she had acquired herself a small team. However, before she could dedicate herself to being a fulltime trainer, her highschool life intervened. She made new friends, was introduced to alcohol and parties, and had become mature enough to see boys in a whole new light. Ironically, her education suffered because she frequently skipped school to spend time with friends, or one of the three boys she was interested in. As for her pokemon, she had much less interest in them and didn't let them out of their pokeballs as often.
[break][break]
She was a wild girl throughout her first two years of high school. However, that briefly changed when she finally settled on a steady boyfriend and it was her first serious relationship. She was happy where her life was at, even though her parents were less than pleased with her grades. Everything seemed to be coming together the way she wanted, and Sarika was sure she would spend the rest of her life with her boyfriend Fabian. If there was one thing Sarika was good at it was screwing up good things for herself. One night she visited her boyfriend's house while his parents were away. Fabian wasn't home yet, but his older brother Alex was.
[break][break]
Alex offered her a drink while she waited, and told him that Fabian was at soccer practice but would be back in half an hour. Sarika had already had a few drinks on the way over because she'd had a stressful day doing some tests that accounted for 20% of her grade in two of her courses. Alex didn't know that though, and Sarika was susceptible to getting drunk faster if she hadn't eaten, and she had been too nervous about the tests to eat. So the one drink Alex gave her, combined with the three before was enough to get her feeling...frisky.
[break][break]
She spent some time talking with Alex while they both set on opposite ends of the couch in the living room. Before long all conversation ceased and they found themselves awkwardly staring at one another. Sarika scooted closer, made a slurred comment about him being as cute as his brother, and then dared to give him a kiss. Alex knew it was wrong but he'd actually had a crush on her for a while, but hadn't gotten involved with her because she was already involved with his brother. He was just pulling away from her when there was the sound of a creaking door, and his brother walked into to see them with their faces inches apart on the couch.
[break][break]
Sarika ended up in a screaming match with her boyfriend, but he had pretty much caught her in the act. They ended up breaking up, but it ended up being what was best for both of them in the end. It was exactly the wake-up call Sarika had needed to see that her party girl lifestyle was doing her more harm than good. She spent the last year of her high school cleaning up her act. She didn't get into any relationships, focused on catching up on her grades, and even started spending more time with her pokemon again. It was a little too late to save her grades, which she had neglected too much during her earlier years. She did manage to graduate from high school with barely passable grades, but it also meant she was free to do what she wanted.
[break][break]
She got a job as a barista at a local coffee shop, and spent four months on the job. It was an okay job, she liked it well enough because there was plenty of people to socialize with. A strange blonde-haired man in a spotless business suit approached her one two two hours into her shift. He gave her a very long and complicated order, for specialty coffees that required a very specific mix of ingredients. Sarika was very nervous and did what he asked, figuring he might be a company executive testing how well she could do her job. She managed to pull it off, and the man left with a smile and told her he would see her again.

He visited once a week after that, and she began to get creeped out by the way her kept staring at her and often complimented her looks when she got the order right. One day he leaned casually on the counter and straight up asked if he she liked her job. She didn't want to outright lie, and she told him it was pretty good and she didn't lie about enjoying chatting with the customers. He seemed to take her response well, nodded, and then asked a different question. He asked he if she thought she could do better for herself. She was still thinking of the best way to answer him when he slipped a business card into her hand, and told her to keep thinking about it.
[break][break]
She tucked the business card in her purse and then a big lineup of customers came in the left her busy for the rest of her shift. It wasn't until Sarika got home that she got the chance to look at the business card. It was for a modelling company out of Hoenn. She had just been headhunted by a talent acquisition specialist. Sarika called out of curiosity and they set up a phone interview for her. They told her that if she passed the interview and wanted the job, she would have to agree to relocate to Hoenn. The prospective employer promised her they would handle all the relocation expenses. It was an exciting opportunity and too good for her to pass up. She gave her parents the news and then prepped for the interview.
[break][break]
Sarika was lucky enough to pass, and ended up in a business class plane seat on her way to the Hoenn region with her pokeballs packed into her luggage. They were more pets to her than anything by that point in her life, but she didn't intend to leave them behind. After arriving in Rustboro City, Sarika's unexpected modelling career began in earnest. The company even supplied her with her own all-expenses-paid bachelor apartment just a few blocks from her workplace. However, they told her it was only paid for up to three months and after that she was expected to pay for the rent out of her wages, which she thought was fair.
[break][break]
All of the attention, the admiration, and the daily photoshoots was a lot for her to get used to. Sadly, not all people are destined for stardom and her star's rise began to fade little more than a month since she'd arrived in Hoenn. She got a horrible case of late teenage acne, and the heavily applied makeup wasn't enough to completely hide it. It didn't help that the bumps were terribly itchy and she couldn't help scratching at them. Despite Sarika's protests, they let her go under a lame excuse unrelated to her acne. The apartment had still been paid for up to three months and she had only used up one. They told her she could still keep the apartment if she could afford it. She had two months to find another job, so she went with what she knew.
[break][break]
Sarika found a barista job within Rustboro city with only a month left to spare. However, she found it to be a lot harder than the one in Motostoke. It was on a busy main thoroughfare, and the lineups went out the door and around the city block. The place was always busy, and she barely had time to breathe when jumping from one task to the next. Once she had saved up enough to pay her rent for her apartment for a couple months, Sarika decided to try her hand at being a full-time trainer instead. It wasn't easy at first and she didn't earn much, but it was far more enjoyable than being constantly rushed about as a barista.
[break][break]
It was her sizzlipede's fierce personality that helped her quite a bit, because he took the initiative during battles when she didn't know what orders to give him. He won quite a few battles, though many of the trainers Sarika faced were younger, though just as inexperienced as she was. It was after her sizzlipede won a particularly difficult battle against a shellos that the pokemon ended up evolving into a Centiskorch. Her Centiskorch was powerful and she began winning battles against novice trainers with ease, but she went up against a more experienced trainer with a Toxicroak and was humbled with a major loss. She is still in the process of learning what works best, but it's the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
