Born and raised in Oldale Town, James' childhood was uneventful. The oldest of four children, James was tasked with helping on the farm his parents owned, along with the family's Lycanroc Sunny. Together, the boy and dog bonded over herding the Mareep and Miltank from dawn until dusk.[break][break]

From a young age, James had an affinity for nature and Pokémon. At first, his parents pushed him to go into Pokémon Training, adn he willingly obliged...Until a fateful day when he was 13. He and Sunny stayed out late one night, tending to the Mareep until it grew dark. Sunny began to snarl at something in the dark, and before he could react, a group of Mightyena attacked. Sunny was only able to do so much, and both dog and boy were left unconscious. A local Pokémon Ranger heard the commotion and came to the rescue, and they were rushed to the hospital, where it was found that James' mangled leg was too far gone to save. Immediately it was amputated and fitted with a state-of-the-art prosthetic; it was this or live on crutches for the rest of his life.[break][break]

James and Sunny recovered quickly, and James adjusted to his new life. It wasn't the prosthetic that bothered him, it was the recurring nightmares, flashbacks, phantom pains...But he was the eldest son, he was taught to power through and keep his head down, so that's what he did. To this day he rarely mentions his plagued thoughts unless he knows someone particularly well.[break][break]

When James turned 18, he was gifted with a freshly-hatched Chikorita. He named him Pel, and set off to take Pel and Sunny to enroll in the Ranger School. It had been his dream since the attack, inspired by the Ranger that saved him. James passed the School's exams with flying colors, and graduated when he was 21. Since then he has been working in various places in Hoenn, going wherever Pokémon or his fellow Rangers need him to go. He returned home recently only to find that a little Cleffa had followed him from the forest. His newest Pokémon, he named her Cassiopoiea, Cassie for short, and if anything ever happened to her...[break][break]

James is a hardworking, kind, diligent young man with a stubborn streak the size of a Mudsdale. He won't stop until the work is done, and done right, and isn't afraid to toss himself into danger at the expense of another creature. He has a warm smile and a gentle laugh, and his easy-going personality earns him friends everywhere he goes. James also has undiagnosed PTSD from his attack as a child, and prefers to not discuss it if at all possible. Normally very sweet and patient, he sometimes gets in his head too much and grows a wicked temper.
