So this was what it was like. Love. He’d never experienced anything like it before. How he could be so mad with Rook and then in the next moment, feeling as though he needed the spark of connection to resume so that he could breathe right again. He never wanted to forget what this felt like, he didn’t want to seek this out with anyone else. It made sense with Rook, no matter how different parts of them were.[break][break]

This was right. He was right.[break][break]

The air pulled from his lungs as Rook leaned into the kiss, closing the distance between them again. How could Lam not follow that lead? “Love you too,” he immediately replied, words buzzing against his lips. As cooler hands found the skin under his shirt, it forced a slightly whiny breath from him. The shiver that followed was electric, making him forget he’d ever been cross to begin with.[break][break]

As nice as it was, Lam was the more self-conscious creature of the two of them. And eventually he wasn’t able to be distracted from that creeping feeling, even if it was the middle of the night and there was no one there in that empty lot.[break][break]

“C’mon,” he muttered, regretfully pulling away just enough to slide off the car’s hood. His hand found Rook’s and he tugged him over to the passenger side door.[break][break]

But rather than part ways and return to his own seat so that they could just go home, Lam climbed in after him, awkwardly straddling his hips and settling in his lap so that he could catch the other’s mouth with his own again in between thin laughter and heavy breaths.

Lam drew away then and Rook sighed, figuring that was that. It was time to drive home if they wanted to continue this conversation, or not (which was quite likely they wouldn’t have time for words). He was a little surprised to find Lam following behind him. “Oh, hello there.” He giggled as Lam slipped through the passenger door and settled on top of his lap. “Irresistible, ain’ I?”

Granted, once the idea got into their heads, there was very little that could deter them. Though he liked how lazy it was, how it made him feel young and dumb and uncomplicated. Lam felt like his other half and he couldn’t imagine a life even half as happy without this. This simple, uncomplicated love. He was the only complication, he knew, but Lam seemed to love him anyways, didn’t he? Wow, how’d he get this lucky?

His hand found the little lever on the side of the seat, which dramatically fell back until they were in a heap. “Oops, my bad.” Despite, he laughed. His hands roamed up the other’s back, settling on the other’s hips beneath the hem of his shirt. His mouth traveled a little more freely down the curve of his boyfriend’s throat.

He didn’t yet recall the fact that Noodles was right then, likely looking very concerned. And also that Rosie was still napping in the trunk. Oh well.

Rook was obviously surprised by the decision Lam had made, which pleased him to no end. It felt like Rook was always the one surprising him, and it was nice to turn that around on him for once. “Hi,” he murmured back, biting down on his bottom lip though it didn’t do much to quell his smile.[break][break]

“Mm, yep. Just a little bit.” Hands settled on Rook’s shoulders so that Lam could pull himself closer again, seeking out his lips again between the hushed words he spoke. The jolt that came with the sudden drop of the seat was unexpected, but the surprised cry was immediately followed by careless laughter. Nothing mattered in the moment, just them. Lighthearted and simply present to how the minutes passed once they’d set their minds to it.[break][break]

The shinx in the backseat, did in fact, startle as the bucket seat went crashing back. Sparks erupted around Noodle, brightening the dark for just a moment as he irritably jumped away and climbed into the driver's seat to resume his nap unbothered until whenever they were…done.[break][break]

Lam laughed again, nose wrinkling as he watched his Pokémon huff away. “He’s not gonna let you forget that.” They’d deal with it later, though. Right then, he was too focused on the heat blazing under his skin, and the path of hands trailing down his back.[break][break]

The trailing of Rook’s mouth drew more pleased noise from the back of Lam’s throat, and one hand slipped up to rake through dark strands of hair as the other wandered down to slip under his shirt to travel over his abdomen.

"He's free to file a complaint against me." He said with a snicker, even if he did feel a little guilty for acting without thought. They were lucky for not crushing the poor little guy under their collective weight and that of the seat. He'd apologize later and give the feline some extra table scraps or something. In truth, he couldn't say he was too apologetic, which maybe said ill about him, but he was a little subdued by the attention he had on his partner.

Little noises slipped out of Lam's mouth as his kisses traveled across skin. Every noise he made was a symphony that Rook felt singularly responsible for. It was a strange thing to feel possessive of, but no one else could do this. Maybe this was the same sensation that artists felt over the canvases they painted on. Fingers raked through his hair, slipped across his abdomen. Every touch was electric and, before much longer, he wasn't going to feel very inclined to stop.

So, he paused, head rolling back into the headrest of the seat. Lam wasn't quite as comfortable usually with certain things, so it only felt right to figure it out before. "Soooo, are we adding public indecency to my charges tonight? Or are we keeping this pg?" It was innocent, 100%. He was just making sure before he went to far. Making out was fun and they could do that for hours like a pair of eager teens, but he had a tendency to push his luck (obviously).

“Sure you can reach an agreement.” The shinx was a mellow creature usually, prone to quick forgiveness if it meant he was rewarded. So Lam wasn’t too fussed about it—he was too busy being preoccupied by mouth and teeth on his skin, eagerly waiting to be painted in color beyond the redness that burned in his cheeks and ears. Every reaction, every sound was tailored to encourage Rook to continue.[break][break]

It was no secret that Lam tended to be more reserved and more easily flustered between the two of them. Though he was plenty affectionate, there was no denying that he tended to be more modest about it in public areas than Rook, who felt unbothered to lavish him with blatant affection in crowded areas, much to Lam’s simultaneous delight and embarrassment.[break][break]

But at that moment, Lam had sort of lost his head. He wasn’t thinking about where they were and what they were doing so much as he was about how good it felt, and how happy he was. So when Rook leaned back, with a question on his tongue, Lam only looked at him hazily, slowly blinking. “Huh?” Then it clicked and his heart squeezed painfully in his chest at the consideration. But it was a good sort of ache. “Oh.”[break][break]

His hands slipped further down, mischievously so, and tugged on his boyfriend’s belt loops. “I think..” he began, dipping down to press a line of kisses along Rook’s jaw, leading back to his lips. There was a grin on his face as he watched the other with heavy green eyes, “..that the coast is clear.”[break][break]

Teeth nipped at a bottom lip playfully, and Lam could feel his heart thundering in his chest at the thrill that came with this. The emboldening he suddenly felt in light of something as simple as a mutual feeling. Like flying. His hands hovered there, returning to slip under Rook’s shirt, but not drift further again just yet. “Can clean up your act tomorrow. One last hurrah, babe?” He winked and it was so corny that he laughed at himself, but there was no bringing himself to pull away.

Maybe it was terrible, but he had already forgotten his affront to the poor shinx. Unlike Rosie, Noodle was a far easier creature to please. Rook was relatively good at persuading pokemon to be nice to him, even if it was out of sheer pity for how pathetic he could be. So, he wasn't worried. He was rather more preoccupied with pleasing his boyfriend and ensuring they didn't fight again. This was a pretty clear message to him though, he had to get his shit together. This was too good of a thing and he couldn't risk losing it. Lam was too important to him.

It was a bit agonizing to pry away at that time, but necessary. Communication was important, after all, that was one of the greatest lessons he'd come to learn. Though the way Lam slowly came back to reality made him grin from ear to ear. It seemed he wasn't the only one of this mindset at least. They were kind of in the middle of nowhere and there was no one here. Sure, maybe there were cameras, but he wasn't bothered. He wouldn't mention as much though considering he'd gotten the okay from Lam thus far.

Rook's breath slowed as lips descended down his jaw and hands slipped beneath his shirt again. It felt electric, like a tether was connecting them. There was no one else in this world, he was sure, that he cared about in the way he cared for Lam. Likely never would be again. And he'd almost gone and messed that up, hadn't he? So stupid. How could he risk this just for an addictive thrill? That was what it was though, an addiction, he'd grown into stealing through the pure adrenaline it gave him. It was nothing in comparison to this though.

"Hurrah!" He giggled at that, leaning forward to give him another kiss. His own hands traveled up the other's back, underneath his shirt. "I love you, so much."

Lam was a naturally languid and lazy sort of beast. He didn’t often rise to frantic need and impulsive desire. He was more reserved in this area than his boyfriend—not that he was a prude or didn’t care for affection. It was normally just slower, lazier. A tender sort of intimacy drawn out with heavy movement and a slow internal clock.[break][break]

Now, though, he felt greedy for what he was being given. Fueled by the heat of his former anger. All that extra energy needing somewhere to go, an outlet for relief. As well as the desire for things to be right again. They’d unraveled from the spool, and now there was a desperate need to come back together again. There was no time for a leisurely pace. There was only frenetic energy in the drag of his hands, fervency in the weight of his stare as he briefly pulled back.[break][break]

Dazed and confused before he insisted it was okay that they were doing this here and now. The idea of cameras wasn’t lost on him, but the worry was far away. It was dark and late, fog on the windows further obscuring them. There was no one like Rook, none who came close. No one he felt so deeply for or who could provoke him to such vivid emotion. And Lam intended to show that.[break][break]

Bright and clear, not a shred of doubt to be found.[break][break]

His laughter was smothered by the following kiss, then warped into a hitched, soft sigh as his back arched under the touch of wandering hands. His own dipped lower, sliding over the other’s abdomen and skidding over wound bandages to toy at his belt loops and pulling himself closer.[break][break]

“I love you more,” he huffed playfully between breaths and the press of his mouth against Rook’s, against skin as he trailed away again. Wandering until he reached more bandaging at his partner’s neck, nipping and tugging with teeth to pry them loose to unraveling. Just for more access, more skin to map out and mark. More of him. “Ikarus.” Urgent, but achingly tender.

Admittedly, Rook was somewhat besieged by his partner's energy, but he wasn't about to object to it. If fury had to go somewhere, it might as well be this. It was almost humorous because it wasn't a side of Lam that he'd gotten to see before. It was sexy. Though there was never a time that Lam wasn't sexy, be it slow and steady or frenetic as it was right then. No one had ever owned him quite this way, body and soul. He would never relent this ownership either. Lam could have him.

Laughter sung in his ears, vibrated against the base of his throat. The sound was beautiful. He was beautiful. Rook wasn't certain that he could ever prove deserving enough, but Lam had a point. It wasn't like Lam didn't know what he wanted, or that Rook could trick him. To suggest otherwise would be insulting at best.

"Not possible." He teased back, teeth nipping at a reddened lower lip. Hands and teeth plucked at bandaging, unravelling it and prying fabric and linen aside. His own hands slipped down to the hem of the other's sweatpants, teasing fingers slipping under fabric before pulling impatiently.

Maybe it was a lapse in judgement that led him here. It was okay to be a little messy in their love though, right? Maybe he didn't deserve to pay for it at the end of the day. Lam was too good for him. Most of all, this was not sustainable. He wanted to be better, so that he could see himself as the person that Lam deserved. That was thought for a later time, not motivated by heat and passion and love. I love you, Lam had told him, that was really all that mattered right?

Lam failed to notice how overwhelming he was likely being in that moment. Not that he had any reason to be aware of it because Rook wasn’t protesting. It wouldn’t be until afterward that he’d return to his typical, lazier sense of self and be a bit embarrassed by the display he was presenting now. But for right then, it felt okay to outlet all that excess emotion and channel into something good. Loving.[break][break]

“Is too.” But Lam didn’t argue beyond that, as his capability for words and intelligible sentences began to dwindle. Mind clouded over by want, all he could focus on was the travel of the other’s hands. Breath snagging at the tease before Rook humored him, and the hint gave way to something better.[break][break]

A muffled sound pressed against Rook’s neck, breathy and pleased. The impatience drove him back into motion as well, his own fingers hasty and clumsy as they fumbled with the top button of Rook’s pants as he pulled up enough to let their mouths crash together again. Multi-tasking wasn’t his strong suit in this sort of frenzy, it seemed.[break][break]

He managed eventually, though. Somehow.[break][break]

As frustrating as Rook could be at times, there was no one else in Lam’s mind more deserving of what he gave. And definitely no one else he’d do something like this with. It felt a little wild and impulsive and careless, but it didn’t necessarily feel like a bad thing that Rook drew those traits out of him more. It was nice to feel so alive like this. And Lam probably had things about himself that were frustrating or annoying. But Rook made him want to be better just as much.[break][break]

And if that was a shared thought, it had to count for something, right? That this devotion was far more special than either of them had likely anticipated.
