”Ready to see an spectacular show?” Holding a microphone, Fae Madden smiles at the crowd that had gathered by the enormous tank, causing cheers to erupt amongst them. She had been invited to be one of the event’s presenters, her presence clearly being used as a way to draw people to attend. It had worked, especially because she had agreed to signing autographs once the show ends. ”Remember, all proceeds from today will go to helping the migratory pokémon that have been affected by the dome!”

Dome. It’s all so foreign to her, like speaking a different language. It’s part of the reason why, once introductions are over and she steps off the stage, the façade fades away, and with it, her smile does as well. The truth is that she cares little for this sort of event, but Fae Madden is, above all, an amazing actress.

At least now she just gets to sit and watch her Skrelp have fun in the water, since she had also agreed to have one of her pokémon participate. She sighs, not paying much mind to whoever sits next to her just yet.

The actual problem here was—picking out a suitable Water-type for this.

While he knew that there were loads of people who were going to show up with Milotic and/or Primarina, he decided to one-up everyone…

…by showing up with a Squirtle.

Specifically, his Squirtle nicknamed Raphael. What a pun.

Anyway, today was going to be a day to help raise funds for the stuck migratory Pokémon—he remembered his friend’s place out at Fortree doing something similar but for the Flying-types. This one was for the Water-types…

So he let his Water-type trundle out and join a very out-of-place looking Skrelp amongst the beauties, waving at the seahorse-like Pokémon in welcome.

Lars, on the other hand, took his place next to the owner of said Skrelp, his gaze unknowingly noticing the ink…

“Nice tats,” he remarked quietly.

At least when people are more preoccupied with the show she doesn’t have to worry about smiling and being fake as fuck for their sakes alone. Sure, some paparazzi or some fans may still point their cameras her way, but Fae Madden looking annoyed in public is nothing new, people just make the mistake of assuming she’ll act like some of her most well known roles.

An eyebrow is raised at the remark, but it leads her to assume that part of the tattoo on the back of her neck is visible. She doesn’t mind it; this too is no secret. Plus, it looks like the man by her side has some ink of his own as well.

”Thanks, yours are pretty cool too.” No, it’s not a pu. She has no idea who she’s talking to, but she does intend to correct her mistake. A hand is offered as a greeting, black polish coating her nails. ”Fae Madden.”

Meanwhile, in the tank, the little Skrelp swims circles around a Squirtle, doing its best to do as Fae had told it and keep its venom in check.

It was true, after all—some of the ink that he’d gotten was starting to peek out from one side of his shoulder slowly crawling up his neck. There was nothing else to it, really.

He didn’t want to deceive the young woman beside him, so might as well give him his ‘trueform’ name.

“Laurence Anderson,” he introduced himself quietly. Hopefully nobody else around them would recognize him, because he was here with his hair down and wearing something much more nondescript than his preferred attire.

Back out in the water, the Squirtle had taken to jumping into the air amid a display of Aqua Rings conjured up by some of the Milotic and Primarina. Aww.

Fortunately for Laurence Anderson, celebrity as Fae may be considered to be, she hasn’t been in Hoenn long enough to know all details about the “who’s who” in the region – especially when it comes to League personel. She knows people like Melody Miro and Callan Young, sure, but that’s more because of their music careers and less because of their positions as members of the Elite 4. That’s just how the cookie crumbles.

Like those blue shell things. Only instead of knocking whoever unfortunate driver was in whatever vehicle…

“Well, they were looking for more Water-types asides from those already out there so I brought ‘im out for some exercise,” he admitted a few moments later. No deception or anything out of the ordinary there.

At least the weather wasn’t so hot he would be forced to strip topless!

He was quietly wondering, in an awed kind of way, how his female companion hadn’t reacted yet to his presence. Maybe she wasn’t from around Hoenn, or she didn’t engage herself too much in the political field?

What a breath of fresh air, wouldn’t you say?

At least I’m not deceiving anyone… he thought with this mysterious smile on his face as he looked over to where his Squirtle was now doing something extremely silly, backflipping through a series of Aqua Rings that had been scattered around the course and being a general show-off. Typical Squirtle.

“I’m actually surprised people haven’t started coming after me for pictures. Must mean I’m incognito pretty well,” he continued with a wry smile on his face.

“If you’ve heard of the Rangers, at least around this region, then you may—or may not, I don’t know if you follow the news—heard of my name scattered here and there in some of the articles.”

So, Hoenn’s the kind of region where rangers are celebrities just for being rangers? Is that what he’s implying? They do have catastrophes happening all the time, and people do love a hero, but Unovan as Fae is, she can’t help but only see them as the guys go around talking about pokémon conservation and the environment.

Ah, but this is a fundraiser to help migrating pokémon, isn’t it? It makes sense that a well-known ranger had been invited as some sort of relevant celebrity. For all Fae knows, maybe everyone in the audience is a pokémon conservation fanatic who is obsessed with Laurence Anderson. She doubts it, but it’s still a possibility.

”Oh really? Then maybe you should join me for my autograph signing later. Bet your fans would pay a bunch for yours.” She knows how much people would pay for hers, after all, but in this case it’s all mostly about bringing attention to the cause. At least the implication was there. He was actually thankful people weren’t jumping him down yet—at least, until he decided to ‘slick back’ the bangs that were falling across his forehead.

“Figures people wouldn’t recognize me if my hair wasn’t spiked up,” he continued with that same wry grin on his face as his more ‘recognizable’ look was revealed.

“I mean, why not?” he continued with a slight rotation of his shoulders. “Give the crowd something to do so they didn’t just waste their time coming out here, after all.”

And then someone decided to turn their way, before he heard the excited whispering spread like wildfire among the crowd.

“See?”
