Quicksand is an old and overused trope in film, exactly what you'd expect when watching a movie about a group of people exploring a jungle or a similar environment. Sandpits aren't as common, but they're still pretty damn tropey, and Fae should have expected it.

In the middle of all the surprise, annoyance, and rush to recover her stolen gifts, she had almost forgotten about Gunner Graves. It's only when he addresses her that she turns to look at him, her cheeks lightly flushed due to the run and her hair no longer looking as perfect as it usually does.

"Yeah... Thanks for the help." There's actual gratitude in her voice, the intensity of her golden gaze being somewhat diminished by a slight yet genuine smile. "How about yours? Everything okay?"

She watches him for a moment. Under different circumstances, Fae would have perhaps suggested seeing the rest of the winter market together, but after what just happened, this is honestly the last place she wants to be. As a result, a question is raised seemingly out of the blue and with a smirk:

"Although I guess that's better than having a 'it's my life, I don't give a fuck what you think about me' phase and doing whatever the hell you want, no matter how much controversy it gets you in."

Some would argue Fae is still in this phase, but in reality those days had been left behind years ago. Hard as it may be, she finds balance in her life; a juggling act between doing what she wishes and keeping those who have high expectations of her pleased.

But Fae will always be rebellious by nature, and so to her moments of rebellion come naturally. Moments like taking a prince's hand because she wishes to even though she knows it will cause a scene. Perhaps the scene is part of the reason she wishes for it. Perhaps she seeks the chaos and the thrill.

It feels comfortable, though. His hand holding hers. Fae finds that she doesn't mind it in the slightest.

Fae Madden is a woman who has built her career around her ability to lie; she's a master of her craft. In her films she fully becomes the character expected of her and in interviews she plays a character as well — kind and polite, full of wit and charm. None of these characters are who Fae Madden really is, and when you sit beside her for the premiere of her movie, when the director steps onto the stage and thanks everyone for attending, you find a woman filled with pride. Proud of her work. Proud of what has been achieved by everyone involved in this project.

"Enjoy." She tells you right before the film begins, her lips marked by a hint of a smirk. Not that she hopes you'll enjoy it. She knows you will.

The film is provocative, a mockery of pretentiousness and of the people who take the joy out of art. The people who see it only for its value, those who only care about status, those who criticize for the sake of increasing their own status, and those who demystify and take all the magic out of art. Fae Madden plays the heroine, an escort who understands the plight of the chef that is the film's supposed villain.

You're watching this film with the people who made it, so as should be expected, there are cheers with every beautiful dish presented, applause at the action and even the most gory and brutal scenes, laughter at the jokes, and an overall feeling of enjoyment through it all.

Fae Madden stays quiet through it all.

Her gaze is fixed on the screen for every single second until the last word in the credit rolls. Her expression is unreadable. You don't dare to even consider making a move, this clearly matters to her more than anything.

As much as she may have been looking forward to exploring this unknown place and getting to know these two admittedly rather good-looking strangers (hi, symon blessing and Lydia Magnusson), the moment Fae senses that something is wrong with her sister, all those things no longer matter.

A soft and delicate hand takes that of Hailee Jacobs, yet her grip is as firm as the stare Fae gives her.

“We’ll be alright, Hails. We’ll get out of here.”

Naturally, moment Fae speaks these words, it’s as if Murphy’s Law gives her the metaphorical middle finger. Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, and in this case, the ‘anything’ is apparently some monstrous dwelling in the approaching sandstorm. Cicero growls at it, standing between the unknown beast and Fae.

Oldale Town reminds Fae of the small and picturesque towns in just about every direct-to-video Holiday movie ever made. Many would expect her to dislike things like these, but in truth, all of the stereotypes about people with her type of attitude aside, she actually finds it to be rather… charming.

The less-than-discrete looks people keep giving her and Remiel Calcifet, though?

Not so charming, but alas, it comes with the territory.

”Hmm… Have you?” She’s quick to counter, eyes of brilliant amber gazing up at him. ”If I snap a heel, I’m skinning those little bitches alive.” is the sort of wonderful and not at all murderous thought that crosses Fae’s mind as she runs. These are of course her main concerns: the gifts she had bought for her dear sister and boots that may just be her favourite. The fact that she may look a mess while running? Not an issue. The fact that Gunner is there? Barely noticeable at the moment.

One of the Nickit is stopped by the Staraptor. Good. It drops her bags, though. Not so good, but at least nothing seems to have fallen. The second Nickit turns to look at them, and at that moment, both Fae and her Pokémon know what comes next.
[break][break]
”CICERO.” The stare the Mightyena gives the Nickit is nothing short of terrifying: baring fangs and snarling. This oh so SCARY FACE does an excellent job at making the small vulpine pokémon hesitate, moving much slower. Hopefully, it’ll be enough for the AGILE Staraptor to catch it.

Cicero moves in to take hold of the other culprit, FANGS piercing like THUNDER.
[break][break]
And Fae? Fae finally stops running, not even taking a second to catch her breath before picking up the most important bag. She checks its content: a beautiful silk scarf, making sure it hadn’t been torn or damaged in any way. Relieved, she takes a deep breath.
