Orion breaks into a sprint after his Silvally, but no amount of speed can match that of the Silvally's Z MOVE: BREAKNECK BLITZ. The chimera's twisted figure seems to blur as it fires like a rocket toward its Ultra Beast foe.[break][break]

They didn't call it Beast Killer for nothing.[break][break]

Orion skids to a halt at the edge of a gaping hole in the earth, breathing hard. Shit. Rocket had breached the Theatre. How many of them were already in there? How long has the hole been opened?[break][break]

There's no time for questions. He looks up at priam conrad and practically snarls.[break][break]

"retreat or die?" he repeats. "that's such a rocket thing to say! oh, and i don't mean like boss stuff."

it's usually members that got a taste of victory from a few skirmishes with the law enforcement that got the gall to say that threat. it hurts to hear, but it's the norm. priam would've said it before once or twice too, but it just wasn't his style.

unfortunately for priam, this wasn't the right time to throw taunts.

"shit!"

he basically has to jump off of his guzzlord when the silvally comes charging in. he knows of what it can do, thanks to bryan delarosa. this was already a lost battle.

stall it!

his subconscious instructs him amid his curious staring. he rolls off the ground from his pokemon, walking off as he holds the motorcycle helmet in place.

"drain punch!"

tentacles attempt to hold on to the beast killer while two extra ones try to absorb health back. it won't last long, but every moment counts for priam.

It's not the first time he's been compared to a Rocket in the heat of his rage. It won't be the last. It makes him just as furious as the first time he'd heard it.[break][break]

"I am nothing like you."[break][break]

The battle starts heavily in their favour, but Guzzlord regains some of its lost footing with a super-effective DRAIN PUNCH. Orion would ordinarily take the opportunity to switch the chimera's disc to counteract the weakness, but he can't risk getting close to the Ultra Beast.[break][break]

Perseus lets out a sound that's half growl, half whimper, struggling away from the tentacles and firing a point-blank TRI-ATTACK.

the line was too cliched. he's heard it from his fellow rockets multiple times, usually in this same scenario with the roles reversed.

"sir, you're really just baiting me to throw a jab at you!" he shouts as he runs away.

he really wants to say a lot after it, but he's not in the position to be throwing jabs, much like what he told the ranger. he's just letting him act all cool now, because priam doesn't want a one-sided match! what kind of headline would that be if it's a steamroll by mister conrad!

drain punch didn't really do much. as the guzzlord eventually drops from the final attack of the beast killer, he immediately points the laser of his pokeball at it. another one quickly takes its place.

"have another one!"

this guy seems to be a psycho, not unlike the pretentious ones possessing niceties and these so called 'conscience'. he can probably let it fight further, but priam knows how those things work with their prey.

so he lets out another guzzlord.

The Guzzlord faints, and Orion feels like he can breath again. Until priam conrad sends out another one?! How many of these monsters did Rocket have?![break][break]

He doesn't respond to Priam's comment, wholly focused on bringing him down now that he feels they've got the advantage. Blood rushes in his ears, adrenaline making his hands shake.[break][break]

The previous attack had been effective, so...[break][break]

"Signature!"[break][break]

Little does Orion know, the NORMAL-TYPE MULTI-ATTACK will prove ineffective on this 'Guzzlord'. His brow furrows. Was this one a Ghost-type? Could they have different types? Ultra Beasts were a class of their own.

what kind of move is signature? it sounds so simple, but at the same time, any single word with more than eight letters are just cool enough to be like a special move.

he slaps himself on the face, only to hit his helmet, having the screen vibrate in front of his sights. it still got the effect of waking him up from his idle thoughts though.

"you may have that cool as shit move called signature, but i have...!"

he tries to think of a cool name of a move on the spot, but realizes he didn't rehearse it with his pokemon.

"...flamethrower!"

the zoroark knows the intent of his trainer, inferred from the distance that he ran from the guzzlord's previous location. still holding both the post, and the illusion, it emits a jet of flames to orion's direction.

littleroot was lush. grass grows everywhere outside of the town's main paths. acids from the guzzlord's stomach from the earlier belch provides the fuel for a sea of flames that separates the two parties together.

tl;dr

guzzlord uses flamethrower
grass between orion and priam is on fire

Flames erupt from the Guzzlord's maw, setting the grass between them alight. Though Orion does not fear fire with the intensity of some, he still has no desire to get burned, staggering back several feet as the heat washes over him.[break][break]

His Silvally remains on the other side, wholly focused on its foe with no regard for safety.[break][break]

If it's a ghost, then those moves won't work...[break][break]

Dashing through the fire, sustaining a brutal BURN as a result, the Silvally lunges at the Guzzlord(TM) with AERIAL ACE.

ace was another cool word to use for a move. it's short, but it's not what makes it so cool. whatever the meaning was (priam isn't sure), it's just connected with so many cool titles that anything that has it was bound to be top tier!

then it turns out it's just aerial ace.

the zoroark hisses when its illusion fades, revealing a much smaller frame to the silvally right in front of it. while the burns from its previous fire-type move may give the ghost-type the advantage, the zoroark still wasn't confident enough to face it head on.

"now we hit it with ominous!" it didn't sound as cool as just saying 'ace' or 'signature', so he completes it. "...wind. ominous wind!"

his pokemon howls, and a gust of wind blows from behind the ghost-type. it attempts to throw the silvally away from the rocket and his pokemon, while simultaneously fanning the flames it left from its previous attack to orion's direction.

tl;dr

zoroark tsks when illusion breaks
zoroark uses ominous wind
wind blows back silvally and fans the flames

That Priam tries to adopt Orion's shorthand might've been amusing if not for the Ranger's rage blinding him to all else. That, and the crackling heat of the flames that he has to continuously edge back from.[break][break]

Silvally's attack lands as expected, but the ILLUSION melts away to reveal—[break][break]

Fuck. I should have known! Orion kicks himself. Was he not a self-proclaimed Ghost-type expert? He also trained Dark-types, even, so a Unovan Zoroark should've been equally expected. Idiot.[break][break]

He nearly falls on his ass scrambling back from the fire as the OMINOUS WIND blows it back at him. He can barely see his Pokémon through the smoke, but he knows the chimera has been burned. He also knows Perseus won't stop fighting until death.[break][break]

He makes his decision, recalling the Silvally only to send it out on their side of the fire.[break][break]

"Rest up, buddy. It's OK."[break][break]

Though it grumbles, the Silvally collapses as soon as it's given permission, falling ASLEEP and healing both burns and injuries.
