There was a rage within the violet-haired man that he couldn't quell. A dark flame, a black hole - dark sun. Burning him from the inside out and threatening to consume his entire being.

And if he could just give his enemies a piece of that feeling, he hoped he'd be able to feel just a little bit better.

Just a little less cold.
[break][break]

He didn't reply to the masked man's question, rhetorical or not - at the moment he didn't feel the need to entertain the criminal with small talk. He'd instead express his intent through not words, but deeds.

"Greed, Shadow Punch." He growled out. His Eyes narrows as he watched his Gengar charge up a shadowy aura in its stubby limb, as it flung itself with an unknown force.

Propelling itself forward in an attempt to hit its target, to power through the embers thrown its way. Whether the human or the pokemon got hit, it didn't matter. As long as his enemies were hurt.

Let's see what the infamous Team Rocket could do.

So be it, then. Levy wasn't afraid of fighting. The threat of it felt like a familiar old friend, one he hadn't realized he'd missed. The thrum of adrenaline and the fluctuation between nerves and excitement and a sense of power in it. This must be what people feel on the other side of things, not the victim but the aggressor. Even if he didn't make for decent one, he could still understand the addictive quality that power and the superiority it brought.

The other man seemed to be trapped in someplace, well beyond his reckoning. That was alright with Levy, clearly the other didn't have much for control as the next attack seemed to be aimed at anything that moved. That kind of fury was familiar to him. That gave him an upper hand. He wondered if this place was the other's home, if he knew it well. What did it feel like watching a home burn? Levy would likely never understand that.

Salandit took the brunt of the blow, but was quick to bounce back. "Smog, choke him out." He ordered and the Salandit spat out violet smog into the atmosphere. The attack was aimed less at the Gengar, as he figured it wouldn't do much to it, but rather at the other man. He wasn't afraid to play dirty either.

It seemed it would take more than brute force to take down this bastard. Noting the smog attack, Viole realized the attack was aimed at him, not his pokemon. As the poisonous smoke threatened to choke his lungs, the vengeful trainer acted as quickly as he could. Recalling his Gengar and calling out his Golbat.

"Return, Greed." He said trying to keep the smog out of his lungs by fruitlessly using his sleeve as a makeshift cover. "Envy, use Air Slash!" The Golbat flapped its wings violently releasing a razor-sharp gale that cut through the smoke, dispelling it as it went on through toward the Salandit.

Viole bitterly hoped it would hit its mark. But wasn't left much time to think as he stood up and wiped his mouth of the bit of blood. Created from the residue of the toxic smoke that had slipped into his mouth. Coughing a bit he focused as best as he could. Though a bit of sweat from fatigue was evident on his face.

The smog did as intended, though it wouldn't have been a usual tactic of his. At some point, it'd become easier to use these methods. His first instinct was to get the fight over and done with as soon as possible. Yet that didn't mean he could afford to be impatient and sloppy. He watched as the golbat was called out, air slash cutting through the remains of the smog. Salandit flinched, knocked around a little by the sharp currents.

Levy called him back, it was better to call him back before he got to the point of fainting. They were a long way away from the end of this battle, and even farther from the end of this day. This is what you signed on for, he reminded himself whenever he felt the slightest ounce of regret.

He released Starmie next. The star pokemon spun in the air, turning to face their opponents. "I'm disappointed, I'd hope your anger would make you a good fight, but maybe this place isn't worth that much to you." Anger wasn't a good weapon though, he knew that from personal experience. "Starmie, power gem." Starmie spun once more before a beam of incandescent light was launched at the opposing Golbat.

"SHUT UP!" A yell ripped out of his throat before he could stop himself. His anger boiled over at the mere assumption of the masked man's words. "You don't know a fucking thing, you bastard!"

He felt a little more blood trickle down his chin, yet he ignored it. Wiping it away as he felt the toxins continue to faintly mingle in his bloodstream.

The young man instead, pulled out his Golbat's pokeball and returned the passed out pokemon. The strike of the Starmie's Power Gem knocked out the bat pokemon due to the super-effective nature of the attack.

Growling, he threw out Gengar once more. He wanted to see what he could do? Then he'd show em! "Greed! Use Curse!" Draining some of its health, the ghost pokemon looked visibly fatigued yet stalwartly kept its eerie grin.

The curse was meant to hit the Starmie, and if successful, it would deal incremental damage for a little bit of time. Literally cursing the starfish pokemon with cruel intent. He'd make the man suffer! Just like Team Rocket had made his people suffer!

An eye for an eye...

Yet the blind one seemed to be Viole himself.

Vitriol thundered from the other man, anger lashing like a tangible force of nature. It was like looking in a mirror of himself years ago, feral with all the anger he held for the world. He was still angry, but he'd changed. He'd learned to become the hunter, the predator, rather than the prey. He couldn't understand at the time, why people did what they did. But he understood now, it made them feel powerful.

It also made him feel a little sick. It was so easy, wasn't it? He used to be afraid of change, but the truth was it was nearly effortless. "To be filled with so much rage and yet be so weak. It's a little pitiful actually."

The curse struck true, making the Starmie thrash in silent pain. It wouldn't have much time before the curse finished it off. "Starmie, hydro pump." He hissed in response, not looking at the pain visible on its rigid form. After another shudder, the starfish pokemon let loose a jet of water aimed for the Gengar.

Viole found himself hating more than he ever had in his life.

He hated the masked man in front of him.
[break][break]
He hated team rocket.
[break][break]
He hated his weakness.
[break][break]
And most of all, he hated himself.

Even back in ecruteak woods, where he lived under the oppressive yoke of his cult's leader. Even when he was forced to take a life at such a tender age. Even when reality gripped his desperate and lonely heart. He never hated so strongly.

And yet... He pushed on, hoping to use that anger and hatred to fuel him toward victory. But this was real life. And he wasn't some protagonist from a movie. Deep down he was just a scared, lonely, little boy still hiding under his blankets at what lurked in the dark.

The unknown was such a terrifying thing.
[break][break]
Swallowing the blood and bile that threatened to rise from his throat. He pushed back the fear that settled in his very bones. Ignoring the shiver down his spine he threw it all away with abandon. As he watched the masked rocket's starmie callously strike his Gengar with a fully powered hydro pump.

The gengar took the blow with as much grace as it could. As much strength as it could. Its body was soaked as it shivered. Visible damage on its phantom body - it looked worse for wear. 'Greed can't take another blow like this...' He realized worriedly. And if Greed went down...

Then he'd only have one pokemon left.

'Shit!'

Realization dawned on him even as his mind roared at him to continue on. To fight til his last breath was spent. But he knew this was a losing battle. There was only so much you could do before you ran out of choices.

But... He wouldn't give up!

He'd win! Even if he took his enemy down with him!

Fear... Hatred... Pride...
[break][break]
None of that entered his thoughts at that moment. Nothing but a desire to take down this terrifying foe. After all, what did he have left to lose?

"G-Greed! Use Nightshade!"

He shouted as he ignored the lingering whispers of his own betraying thoughts. As terror gripped his heart and twisted his insides. As he knew the answer yet remained blind to the truth...

The hatred seemed to seep into the atmosphere. It felt like a palpable force. Maybe he was entirely too natural about clipping away every little string of composure, probably because he himself had struggled at the expense of greater forces. Whatever internal battle the other man was waging, he was losing. It felt good, admittedly, almost like finally making up for his own weakness. Years of his own inability to take control and conquer his own insurmountable flaws. All of it at the expense of this guy.

Starmie made another pained response as the curse continued to eat away at its health. It was still just enough to keep going, enough time for him to strike back with POWER GEM once more before it was struck with NIGHT SHADE. The star pokemon, weakened by the curse, took the brunt of the attack and fainted. Returning the Starmie to its ball, he released Perrserker from his pokeball. There was no knowing how much fight the other man still had in him. It was inconvenient, and yet, necessary. Maybe he was getting too cocky, but maybe for once he was beginning to feel confident.

"What a disappointment."

Perrserker was not a patient sort and acted of his own accord. Levy hadn't yet trained him to better follow orders. Thus, when the pokemon burst from the ball, it raced toward his opponent with FURY SWIPES.

Everything was falling apart.

Even though he managed to carve out one win, how much longer could he go on? The man had a new, fresh-faced, mon that took his fallen one's place. [break][break]And as the cat pokemon lashed out violently at his Gengar, he watched the ghost pokemon faint unceremoniously. "GREED!" He screamed with a strangled cry.

Rushing towards the fallen pokemon he petted the living shadow as tears unbidden welled up in his eyes. Looking frantically at his opponent, his resolve finally shattered. Leaving him with nothing but ice-cold dread that filled his veins. The man was right...

He was a disappointment.
[break][break]
He couldn't protect his family, he couldn't save his home, and he couldn't even protect his pokemon, let alone himself.

He was worthless.
[break][break]
Shakily, he gripped his pokemon's pokeball, calling back the Gengar in a stream of red light as its unconscious form was absorbed into the sphere. Clamoring up, he panted, feeling lightheaded and dizzy he could barely stand.

He had to leave... He had to escape. 'I'm... so sorry... mom... dad...' Giving one final look towards the white owl-masked figure, he turned tail and ran.

He was a coward... But at least he was alive...
