Slender fingers pressed the playback button of Nikita's newest purchase, a digital camera. Up until recently, she had only used her cell phone to take pictures, but a recent rabbit hole brought her to researching digital cameras. The one she'd chosen was a hybrid of a lightweight point-and-shoot and a heavy duty DSLR, yet perfect for a beginner like herself.[break][break]

And like any beginner, Nikita had no idea if the photo she'd just taken of a flowering bush was actually any good. She had tried to read about various techniques to take high quality photos, from depth of field to aperture width to composition, but the terminology eluded her, even after many hours of reading. So she'd decided to visit Slateport Park in the city's Upper District to try her own hand at photography.[break][break]

She raised the camera again, trying to compose the best shot using the viewfinder. Click! But that photo didn't look any different than the previous one.[break][break]

Sighing, Nikita turned away from the shrubbery and continued her leisurely walk along the park's paved walkway. It was midday and a few office workers were out and about, enjoying the pleasant weather by eating lunch on the benches or taking a short walk before retreating to their cubicles.[break][break]

Wild Pokémon frequented the park too, many living there, others simply passing through. Nikita had brought some empty Poké Balls, just in case. Accompanying her was her Sudowoodo, the Rock-type seemingly enjoying the stroll.[break][break]

DUO WILD!

Zoey didn't like the outdoors all that much, but a park in the middle of Slateport's Upper District could hardly be considered the true outdoors. Zoey had DJed a big picnic there during the Slateport Splashfest, and it had been a tolerable enough venue. In any case, her mother was always going on about "getting some fresh air" and "the importance of vitamin D" so, to avoid any further passive-aggressive wellness nagging at their next family gathering, Zoey was doing her best to get some sunshine.[break][break]
Castor, her old Charizard, was fairing better than his human companion. While she sat on a bench partly shaded by a conveniently located tree, wearing stylish violet-tinted sunglasses, he laid sprawled out in the grass, napping contentedly, his big belly rising and falling in the "dead to the world" rhythm of the deeply asleep. Zoey rolled her eyes.[break][break]
"You're snoring," she declared bluntly to the languid lizard.[break][break]

A pretty woman with silvery hair passed by just then, a Sudowoodo at her heels. The woman seemed to be fiddling with a digital camera. Zoey cocked her head, intrigued.[break][break]
"Hey, are you a photographer?" She called out excitedly to the woman, unabashedly interrupting her walk. "I could use a new headshot for my website," she added idly, as if the thought had just occurred to her.

Nikita looked up, alarmed, at the sudden shout directed her way. After all, no one else seemed to be taking photographs in that area of the Slateport Park. She quickly spotted the source of the shout, a younger woman seated on a bench that Nikita had just walked past. So focused was she on her camera that she hadn't noticed who had been sitting there — nor had she expected anyone to interrupt her business.[break][break]

"I am not," Nikita replied matter-of-factly, despite the fact that she held a digital camera in her hands. Amending her statement, she added, "I'm a novice, just learning how to take photos."[break][break]

While they spoke, a wild Bewear crossed the walkway a couple of yards away from Nikita. The Pokémon stopped to regard the two humans in their conversation, which was enough time for Sudowoodo to step up to it and bash it over the head with WOOD HAMMER.[break][break]

The commotion drew Nikita's attention, and she tossed a Poké Ball to capture the Bewear.[break][break]

DUO WILD!

"You look pretty professional to me," Zoey replied without missing a beat, as if this might make the woman feel better about her novice status. "If you need somebody to practice on, I've got nothing better to do at the moment."[break][break]
But before Zoey could really make good on this offer, Cas growled from behind her bench. Zoey twisted around in her seat to look at him, and saw that a pesky Dewpider had crawled up onto his belly while he had been trying to sleep. It made her giggle to see the spidery Pokémon standing on top of the massive Charizard, but Cas himself looked pissed. He swatted at the bug with his flame-tipped tail, and the Dewpider quickly dodged out of the way with more acrobatic prowess than Zoey would have expected from such a Pokémon.[break][break]
"One sec, Cas," She muttered, pulling out a Pokeball. She threw it at the Dewpider, attempting to avoid her companion setting the entire meadow on fire. It was hot enough already, thanks to the blinding sun!
