"Heh. Their side?" Her shoulders rolled into a shrug, her disdain for the notion dripping from her words like venom. "Think what you will. I make my own choices."

It was a truth and a lie combined. She had chosen to walk the path of Rocket, caging herself in the confines of its hierarchy and binding her hands to its ideals.

No one had forced her to make that decision, however.

"But regardless of where I stand, you are my enemy today."

Defensive tactics had taken over. This late in the stage of the conflict, Elisabeth knew winning was not in her power. The Tornadus assured it, as did how long her own Pokémon had been battling without a reprieve.

The spurned Aromatisse glared at the Sableye, but rather than retaliating, the Fairy-type focused on providing a HEAL PULSE to the Butterfree instead, restoring its vitality.

Her Goodra likewise threw up a PROTECT against the Mega-Salamence, the barrier shimmering and blinking out as it withstood the dragon's might.

It was then that she noticed the way that Alexei Ivanov had stumbled forward, as if struck by an unseen hand. Was her opportunity for running finally within reach?

The Tornadus's focus on the ELECTROWEB hadn't been Elisabeth's intention, but it provided a sorely needed moment in the hum of battle nonetheless. Alexei's incapacitated state and the lack of attack directed against her own Pokemon left an opening for her Giga-Butterfree to focus on Elisabeth's true objective:

Escape.

"BEFUDDLE," she commanded, and the Gigantamax-Butterfree obediently complied.

Like some kind of heavy snowfall, soporific motes were shed from the gigantic Butterfree's stained-glass wings like snowflakes, blanketing the field upon which Guillermo Marceliño and Alexei Ivanov stood. The Mega-Salamence, Tornadus, and Sableye all became woozy beneath the weight of the misty white specks, lured into slumber like the once-valiant guards of some darkly enchanted castle.

Perhaps the effect of the sleeping powder might even affect the men in front of her, too.

"Honor limits you," were Elisabeth's parting words to the injured man as her Butterfree shrank once more, diminishing into her Pokeball. Her Aromatisse and Goodra soon followed. "When you feel shackled by the side you've chosen, remember how your anger freed you today. That man almost won this battle."

Her mouth twitched upwards, begrudgingly admiring his tenacity despite herself, as she fled into the safety of the shadows.

For all his talk of fairness and justice, a man with so much anger in his heart could be a monster, too.

If he wanted to be.

And now this bitch decided to turn tail and run?

“Come back here, you coward!” he snarled as his opponent lashed out with one more attack; to which the djinni, and the Salamence quickly worked in a flurry of wings and whistling wind—a last burst combination of Hurricane and Protect to drive away the spores—however their opponent had made their escape.

The Sableye remained hidden in the shadows on the ground, shiny gem-like eyes blinking as the other two Pokémon worked to dissipate the spores away from the clearing where the battle had very recently concluded—in a draw.

“Shit,” he hissed as the last of the downpour finally petered out and the stormy clouds dissipated before the disconnection of the energies from the Mega-Evolved form of the Salamence dissipated and Gabriel returned to normal.

Shaking his head, he then realized… what had just transpired. He’d never felt so… exhausted, tired, as the fury in his blood evaporated and everything registered in his lagging mind.

“Gabe, what… Loki?” he blinked as the Sableye revealed himself, before looking at the djinni who stared back at him, without a single word.

Then he realized what he’d come screaming in here for in the first place as he turned around and saw—

“FROG!” he shouted, quickly recalling all of his Pokémon out on the field—Dusk, Moon and Cherish Balls pulled out and shrunken down in succession—before breaking into a mad sprint towards where the other had fallen, accompanied by something that caused the hairs on his arm to stand up on end.

“Shit, shit, shit, what the fuck,” he hissed, this time pulling out a Love Ball and summoning Tatiana, his Gardevoir.

Something was yelling at him to keep Vince for later. Like instinct? He didn’t know.

“Tati, p-please… help!” he gasped as he collapsed beside the other man, scooping him up into his arms and holding the other close—absolutely terrified at the sight of the unnaturally black veins that were visible on his neck.

For some reason he could taste metal in his mouth, but the panic that overtook him eclipsed everything as the Gardevoir began releasing the healing energies; enveloping him, as well as Memo and Shivani.

“I f-f-f-fucking swear, Frog, don’t you dare go where I can’t follow!”

• Rain Dance (5 / 5) is now active on the field! Rain Dance has dissipated!
• Salamence devolves back to normal!
• Salamence, Sableye and Tornadus are recalled!
• Nikolai.exe disengaged, Alex.exe is now back online and he does a RIGHTEOUS PANIK at the sight of his boyfriend collapsed on the ground
• Summoned his Gardevoir, who then used Heal Pulse on everyone in need of healing as he broke into a full-pelt run and literally scooped the other man up into his arms
• ‘I fucking swear if you die here…!’
• Alex legit has a Roy Mustang moment here (iykyk)

He was cold. He was so ungodly cold. He didn’t think it was possible to be this cold-- but he wasn’t shivering. It was like being in a dream: everything was muted and desaturated and blurring together.

He heard the distant sound of a familiar voice but he was too far gone to recognize it. He was barely holding on when something forced his chin up-- he curled, cradling Shivani closer to him-- and something soft and vaguely floral (he could still smell? touched his forehead.

Then everything went black.

He didn’t stir when Alex scooped him up. He was just limp and cold, and Shivani’s form tumbled to the ground. The heal pulse poured over him, and slowly, ever so slowly, the color began to return to his skin.

He coughed, soft, and then again, harder, a splutter accompanied by full-body cough. Faint purple flecks of darkness escaped him, hit the air, and dissipated.

"A--Alex…” his voice is destroyed. His eyes flutter open.

Shivani stirs in the dirt.

The thoughts kept on circling unbidden in his head; much tempted as he was to holler at his Gardevoir to heal them faster, he knew that she could only do so much before she sank down to her knees as well and touched the spectral Banette, enveloping the other in a Heal Pulse as well.

Why… why was he so cold?!

“Come on, please, don’t—” he hissed under his breath before the other coughed—weakly at first, before feeling the warmth slowly return to the other man in his hold.

Unable to say anything else, all he could do was cry; hiding his face in the other man’s shoulder. His arms trembled as he held the other as close as humanly possible.

He didn’t realize he’d released a breath he’d been holding out of worry, a sigh of relief before he broke down.

Words had completely and utterly failed him.

The complete, total panic that eclipsed the faint taste of metal in his mouth was still running high.

All he could do at this point was just weep.

He woke up slowly, like coming out of a night terror. His mind kept reverbing back on itself, like he was repeatedly waking and saying something, but then he realized he wasn’t actually await.

"Al-lex.”

Finally, finally, consciousness dug its fingers into his brain. He was so ungodly tired-- just wiped, completely.

He felt Alex’s wet face press into his shoulder. He felt him shaking. He weakly lifted one arm to set his palm on Alex’s back, surprised at the lack of strength in his own limbs.

"Alex.”

It was the only thing he could say. The only word remaining in his lexicon. For as much as Alex was physically clinging to him, he was clinging to Alex, mentally.

“‘m…. okay….”
