Safari Zone

Clouds blanketed the sky, muting the colors of the Safari Zone. Refreshing coolness blew through the wild area on a brisk breeze. Nikita did not mind. It reminded her of autumn in Galar despite Hoenn's tropical clime.[break][break]

Digital camera in hand, she trekked down an easy dirt trail, four Safari Balls in her pockets. Her steadfast companion, her Audino, walked beside her.[break][break]

"We may spend more time here today than we usually do," Nikita told the Hearing Pokémon as they passed beneath an arching canopy of blooming wisteria. The woman paused to take some photos of the beautiful arrangement, as if to prove her point.[break][break]

Audino simply smiled and waited until her owner was ready to resume their stroll.[break][break]

Safari Zone

A Kecleon emerged from the underbrush, the green of its scales perfectly matching the greenery surrounding him. Nikita caught him in the viewfinder of her camera, however, and snapped a shot.[break][break]

"Audino, if you could, please?"[break][break]

With a nod, Audino took a few steps toward the Kecleon. Then, in an impressive display of psychic power, she launched herself at him using ZEN HEADBUTT. Their skulls collided, and Audino stood triumphant over her collapsed adversary.[break][break]

"Thank you!" Nikita said as she tossed a Safari Ball.[break][break]

Safari Zone

A troop of Mankeys crowding on the bank of a small stream drew Nikita's attention. Pausing, she lifted her camera and tried to find a good composition for a shot in the viewfinder. One of the Mankeys raised her head to look through the lens and seemed to smile.[break][break]

Click click click![break][break]

Nikita supposed the photos looked good, though it was hard to tell on the small screen. A closer look at home, on a larger computer monitor, was necessary.[break][break]

Giving the Mankeys a farewell wave, she continued down the Safari Zone trail, Audino at her side.[break][break]

Safari Zone

Steel-type Pokémon amazed Nikita, but especially ones like Klink that seemed totally inorganic, yet lived wild and free in cave systems much like this one. She took some photos, the sound of the camera's shutter echoing within the small cavern.[break][break]

Despite her appreciation for Steel-types, however, Nikita did not send Audino to engage with the Klink. She merely smiled at it, admiring the marvel of its existence, then left the cave. She owned many Steel-type Pokémon already, and unfortunately for Klink, it did not possess a certain charm that attracted the young woman.[break][break]

Nikita and Audino continued their trek, heading toward a chillier area of the Safari Zone.[break][break]

Safari Zone

Though Water-type Pokémon made Nikita uncomfortable, Ice-type Pokémon actually drew her interest in a similar way as Steel-type Pokémon did. Steel represented the walls she placed around her heart, though she had come to reconsider those walls of late. Likewise, she felt an affinity to ice after withdrawing her emotions and thoughts from the world, developing a cold exterior that repelled others.[break][break]

So when the wild Cubchoo tottered into her path, she could not help but want to capture her. Instead of sending Audino into a battle, however, Nikita merely approached the adorable Pokémon with a treat in hand.[break][break]

"Hello, little one," she murmured gently. "Would you like to come with me?"[break][break]

The Cubchoo considered the snack and took it with a tentative paw. After munching on the treat for a moment, during which Nikita waited with a patient smile, the Chill Pokémon nodded enthusiastically.[break][break]

Nikita's smile bloomed into a broad grin. She extended an empty Safari Ball toward the Cubchoo and opened it.[break][break]

Safari Zone

After the Cubchoo accepted her offer and entered the Safari Ball, Nikita continued down the trail with Audino at her side. The pair passed through another dense copse of trees before emerging in a small field, a large stump near its center.[break][break]

Pausing for a few photos, Nikita captured a shot of a Jigglypuff loitering near the stump. She motioned for Audino to be as quiet as possible before creeping forward, camera raised.[break][break]

Click click click![break][break]

The sound of the shutter startled the Jigglypuff long enough for Audino to knock her to the ground with a HYPER VOICE. Nikita swiftly followed up with a Safari Ball.[break][break]
