The moment she had heard that Rustboro had gotten a real proper Gym, she had made her way over there. Not only to congratulate CIAN MAHER on his new promotion. But to challenge him.

Walking through the entrance to the building clad in a casual grey business suit. One might get the impression that she was here for business. They couldn’t be further from the truth this time. This was all pleasure for her.

Making her way to the Arena she saw an audience beginning to gather. I hope they are ready for a show. A confident smirk on her lips as she would turn her attention to the Gym Leader that was surely waiting for her. “Hello, Cian!” She would greet him. “Congratulations on the promotion!”

She retrieved her two Pokéballs summoning forth her Steelix and Kommo-o to the battlefield. Before waiting for Cian to do the same.

the crowd erupts into applause as three castform float above the battlefield. they do a little dance which stirs up a SANDSTORM that sweeps across.[break][break]

two pokeballs burst open, starting the battle.[break][break]

this time is spent SWORDS DANCING. very quickly, gliscor slips into the SANDSTORM covered by its SAND VEIL.

She knew how it looked. Deigning him only with an appearance after his promotion, even though she had claimed otherwise during their first encounter. But alas time had not permitted it, or so she would’ve loved to claim.

Either way, her congratulations were accepted so they could move on to their purpose today. “And to you too.” She spoke hoping for a good match.

The crowd goes wild as three Castform sweep across the battlefield with a Sandstorm. Given the name of the Gym, she was not surprised by this turn of events nor by his Pokémon of choice.

A Sandstorm team, eh?

The way Gliscor seamlessly slipped into the sandstorm and hid seemed to suggest Sand Veil as an ability. While she had yet to see anything to suggest the abilities of Excadrill. But she figured the move set of both would certainly include Ground type.

“Lix Magnet Rise, Kaleo Drain Punch.” She pointed towards the Excadrill.

Each Pokémon did as commanded. Using the powers of Magnetism Steelix began to hover slightly above the ground protecting it from Ground-based moves. And the Kommo-o charged towards the Excadrill as quickly as it could heedlessly of the sandstorm or the dangers within. It was certain should it be attacked then Steelix would be there to help.

excadrill's ability should become obvious now with how quickly it's able to maneuver away from the DRAIN PUNCH. the ground-type's SAND RUSH allows it to duck and weave only to return a CRUSH CLAW that looks to drag up kommo-o's chest.[break][break]

the gliscor appears back out of the SANDSTORM, stinger at the ready to deliver a POISON JAB to kommo-o as well.[break][break]

with both of cian's pokemon having SWORDS DANCED, their attacks should prove powerful.

A slight tch escaped from the Kommo-o as the Excadrill maneuvered away from its punch. Leaving Kommo-o to feel the coarse sand getting its rough grains everywhere.

Elinor noted the speed and decided to put her bet on Sand Rush as the ability. The preferred choice out of the three known ones it could have.

But Elinor knowing did not save Kommo-o from feeling the sharp CRUSH CLAW that ran over his chest. Luckily pain was not an unknown concept to him. With the Foe close the Kommo-o decided to return the favor in kind with another DRAIN PUNCH aimed straight for the Excadrill’s body.

The Gliscor appeared seemingly aiming for a pincer attack toward the Kommo-o. Steelix wasn’t about to let that go through. With a loud powerful slam of its tail the Steelix sent forth STONE EDGE aimed to protect the Kommo-o from the attacked direction, and perhaps even hit the Gliscor if lucky.

being up that close, there's no escaping the DRAIN PUNCH that connects square against excadrill's furry chest. it yelps in pain, but braces only to return another CRUSH CLAW before leaping back to DIG into the ground.[break][break]

gliscor narrowly avoids the STONE EDGE, gliding to the left just in time before making a u-turn right at the steelix. it bobs down low, then comes up for a SKY UPPERCUT.

DRAIN PUNCH connects. Energy seeps back into the Kommo-o as it tries to dodge the counter CRUSH CLAW.

Unfortunately it wasn't able to do so completely as it felt the claws scratch against scales before the Excadrill disappeared underground.

With the opponent gone, it quickly turned its attention towards Steelix for a moment. Seeing the Gliscor land its move to great pain for the STURDY Steelix.

Kommo-o quickly sets off through the coarse painful sandstorm intended on joining the Steelix in a pincer attack from behind. Kommo-o using ICE PUNCH and the Steelix returning the SKY UPPERCUT with an ICE FANG.

with gliscor pinned between two enemies, it is left with little options. it looks behind it at the kommo-o, deciding then that the fighting-type is the easier enemy of the two.[break][break]

veering back, it turns and soars straight at the kommo-o to eat the SKY UPPERCUT. its head snaps back, pain coursing through its purplish body but it persists. its stinger POISON JABS into kommo-o's chest.[break][break]

to block the steelix, excadrill bursts out of the ground to send a wave of ROCK SLIDE at it, keeping it separated from the gliscor.

The pincer attack devolved into a brawl. Kommo-o could not dodge the incoming attack from Gliscor at this range, or perhaps the SAND VEIL hid the movement enough. Either way, it felt how the poison jab hit his chest, injecting venom he now had to fight off.

Air left his stunned lungs for a brief moment as he grimaced and returned the jabs with the strongest ICE PUNCH he could muster. But he was already feeling the toll the battle was taking

Meanwhile, Steelix’s advances were halted by Excadrill bursting from the ground. Rocks were hurled at the giant steel serpent keeping it separate from its target as it tried to dodge. And yet, for as much as it dodged it felt the bangs of rocks against its steel body.

But puny rocks would not halt. The ice in its fangs melted into a burst of mist as fire coated its jaw. Steelix dived towards Excadrill trying to catch it within its FIRE FANG.

it is clear that despite the thick SANDSTORM that surrounds them, the crowd is still able to watch and admire the intense battle between the two leaguers. but actually there are rotom provided by ROTOMTV that find themselves in the SANDSTORM, buzzing around to give the crowd perfect angles of the battle.[break][break]

which is why they roar in applause whenever either side takes a hit. like how the gliscor takes the full blow of the ICE PUNCH. it's knocked back and into the ground, though it gets up shortly after, shrugging off dirt before once again disappearing with its SAND VEIL.[break][break]

after putting itself in a precarious position, excadrill is chomped by the FIRE FANG, though it does its best to stop the steelix's jaws from fully closing by holding it up with its METAL CLAW.[break][break]

the excadrill would've fallen if not for gliscor's intervention. the gliscor appears once more to dip down low before SKY UPPERCUTTING the steelix.

Applause and roars of excitement emerged as the battle raged on.

Elinor bathed in the excitement of the crowd. Breathed in the atmosphere as it fueled her fiery trainer spirit. This was what she wanted, lived for even. Memories of her own youth flooded her. How she had snuck her way to watching Pokémon battles either on the telly or in person. Though such chances had been far and few.

She wanted this battle to last for an eternity but knew that would not be the case.

Speaking of knocking.

Kommo-o felt the sensation of Gliscor meeting with its fist. But before he could follow with another attack, the Pokémon had already disappeared into the sandstorm. Allowing Kommo-o precious seconds to feel the poison coursing through his veins eating at him from the inside as the sand tried to do him on the outside. He tried to find his opponent but he did not do so before it was too late.

Steelix felt the Excadrill in his jaws. He would’ve chomped the puny thing had it not been for the claws of metal resisting the closure. But that didn’t stop him for long as his fire continued, or it would have had Gliscor not flown down from high above, hitting him with a SKY-UPPER-CUT.

The jaws of Steelix loosened as it roared in pain letting Excadrill escape.

But that was enough for Kommo-o to realize where the opponents were. And so he set off, powerful legs sending pieces of the arena flying as he charged at the opponent. The first shape he saw was that of Excadrill. Sickly green energy covered its fist as it went in for a DRAIN PUNCH.

Steelix was not about to just take the attack. It tried to dive head first at the Gliscor, hoping to catch it within its jaws instead. The fire was long gone as it made way for ICE FANG. But even he had to admit such a rapid change of temperature was uncomfortable for him, it sent pain sharp pain through his jaw, but he would push through it.

after the SKY UPPERCUT, the excadrill slips free, falling to the ground only to be struck with an immediate DRAIN PUNCH it never sees coming. the attack sends it flying off to the side. it slams into a large boulder, leaving it cracked as it slumps down, unconscious.[break][break]

"shit. it's all you, gliscy!"[break][break]

gliscor likely doesn't even hear its trainer as its too busy evading the ICE FANG. it swoops back, agile as ever, then down again only to come up with the same SKY UPPERCUT.

Excadrill falls.

The crowd gasps and Elinor feels a measure of pride in the effort of her Pokémon. Alas, her pride ends with the next SKY UPPERCUT hitting. The large Steel serpent falls to the ground, unconscious after taking one too many hits.

Kommo-o was not about to celebrate its victory over Excadrill. It quickly jumped onward as it saw its teammate fall, even though the rough sand tried to keep its sight limited.

The sight of the downed Steelix urged the adrenaline rushing through the Kommo-o’s veins to give it strength to combat the poison. And for a brief moment, he did not feel the pain as he rushed at the enemy using the body of the unconscious Steelix as a ramp to set off he jumped at the Gliscor trying to hit it with an ICE PUNCH.

SAND VEIL works best in situations where there are constant distractions. but with the excadrill now gone, gliscor is locked into a one-on-one situation, making it much more difficult to evade attacks.[break][break]

the ICE PUNCH lands, connecting against one of its wings. ice wraps around it, and like an ice cube dropped into a glass, the gliscor sinks to the ground.[break][break]

"shit. break it!"[break][break]

it jams its pincer into it repeatedly, and to buy itself time it sends a NIGHT SLASH out with its stinger aimed right for the kommo-o.

One vs one.

Kommo-o liked the prospects of that. With Sand Veil rendered less effective, even if the Sandstorm itself was still annoying him. He now had what he believed to be an advantage.

The ice punch landed. Hitting one wing, forcing the Gliscor to the ground. Another advantage.

Kommo-o was quick to capitalize on these advantages. Storming towards the Gliscor even as it tried to meet it with a Night Slash. Though Kommo-o was quick to try and dodge, the dark-type attack still graced. But though the pain was abundant, its body aching from pain both poisonous and cut, the Kommo-o forced itself onward.

It would not fall without at least attempting one more ICE PUNCH to finish the match.
