[attr="class","howitempa1"] [attr="class","howitempa3"] At her words, all he could give was a simple nod. He felt as though he understood her plight a lot better, and he could feel sympathy in the sense of being pushed into something one didn't wish to do. Once she lit another cigarette and offered it out, he gladly took another hit. It was nice, sitting here and ridding themselves of things that were no longer necessary. For a moment, he picked up a trinket that had yet to meet the burn pile. Likely a gift that had been bought rather than made. A gift was a gift, sure, but perhaps he was a fan of more sentimental things, gifts from the heart. Jesse tossed it into the fire as well, and leaned back to blow out a cloud of smoke.
"Well, nothing as deep as yours, I gotta admit," he joked partially. "But me? I guess a lot of it was my parents. We lived in Couriway Town, nothing too exciting. We had waterfalls, that's really it. It was depressing when it came down to it."
He halted to take another hit from their shared cigarette. With another exhale, he began again.
"Mom got laid off from her work and fell into alcoholism because of it. It made her real violent, but dad took the brunt of it. She died from drowning in her own vomit. After that, dad and I moved to Lumiose City where I threw myself into becoming a stylist. Then after a while, I just kinda found myself here in Hoenn."
Jesse flashed a bittersweet smile. Sometimes he missed his mother, the way she seemed so happy and full of life before her life went downhill. But no matter how much he missed her, it wouldn't bring her back. He and his father didn't exactly talk much other than the occasional calls spaced months apart, it just felt like a forced relationship after everything. Once he hopped off his own proverbial soapbox, he handed the cigarette back.
"I wouldn't really call it mommy issues though, it's not like she was violent and I don't resent her. I just miss the mom she'd been before it all."
His bittersweet smile remained as he looked at Alecis again and reached a hand out to place over her own in a form of comfort.
"Not that it means much now, but I'm sure you would have been a great mother."
