Huh, it did look like they were running a bit late. "It's fine, Rose. Customers run late all the time. Or even cancel their appointments last minute."

'Or don't even show up at all...' The ginger added sardonically. "Just focus on getting the last thing prepared." The perky young woman gave a mock salute with a smile before winking and walking off to busy herself.

Today was an interesting event. It wasn't exactly rare for them to get a big profile type coming in to clean up their pokemon. But it wasn't exactly common either.

And while his co-worker didn't state it, they were all a bit nervous. Not for possibly messing up, no, they were far too competent to fuck this up.

It's the owner they were worried about. Those big-wig types tend to have big money - but big egos to match. It will no doubt be exhausting to deal with them, more than their pokemon.

Just then, the jingle of a bell echoed through the shop, foretelling a patron. Masking on a kind and pleasant smile that didn't reach his eyes. [break][break]The young man welcomed the person who entered the store. "Welcome to Flippers & Clippers! Where we doll up any pokemon, whether they have fur or scales! How may I help you?"

Flippers and Clippers was a daft name, Yumi thought as she stepped through the front door of the Pokémon grooming salon, her Purrloin cradled in her arms. Perching her designer sunglasses atop her head, she gave the parlor's interior a quick sweep with violet eyes. Brightly lit, clean, tidy — it would suffice.[break][break]

She quickly crossed the room to stand before the man who'd greeted her. Like most other citizens in Slateport City — no, in Hoenn — he did not stand out to her at all. For that matter, neither did the other employee, who hovered nearby, watching them.[break][break]

Inwardly, Yumi sighed, appalled by the dismal state of everything.[break][break]

"Yumi Hasegawa," she said instead, by way of introduction. The sharpness of her tone suggested a woman used to making demands, not conversation. "I have an appointment at 3:30 for my Purrloin, Itazura."[break][break]

The Pokémon in question meowed mildly, though his gaze assessed the stranger with a keen criticality.

'Ah. I've seen those eyes before...' Not literally, of course, he did not know the woman. Yet he'd witnessed that very same expression. Chilly. Distant. Uncompromising. An aura of arrogance befitting of royalty with all the ego to match. To think he thought he escaped such a gaze. That he escaped such people...

"I see, welcome Miss Hasegawa. I have everything prepared, so if you would please guide your Purrloin to the back then we can proceed." Bellamy was all pleasant smiles, yet the clipped and concise tone marred the cheeriness he fakely conveyed.

It seems the woman's presence brought up a few bad memories and soured the young man's mood. Try as he will he couldn't smother that part of him. The part that wished to lash out with biting words and corrosive discourse. The very side of him that he suppressed every day. To at least appear somewhat put together.

"You wished for them to be washed, trimmed, and clipped, correct?" Going over what they went over on the phone. He always asked more than once, especially in person. You never knew when an owner changed their mind. And there was nothing like being threatened to be sued for "tarnishing" their precious pet.

Hopefully, Miss Hasegawa was a bit more manageable than, ah, other customers.

The man's forced cheerfulness was not lost on Yumi, but she ignored it, having witnessed the attitude so many times among service industry workers. Frankly, she despised such behavior. Fakeness was something she absolutely could not tolerate.[break][break]

But first, she followed the man into the back area with its various equipment for bathing and grooming Pokémon. Itazura purred in her arms. The Purrloin would not fuss; he knew his mistress' high standards for appearance, and that included being clean and smelling good. He would calmly and patiently go through the motions to please her.[break][break]

"Yes, that's correct," Yumi confirmed, setting down Itazura so he could go where the man needed. "Do you have any scent spray for Pokémon? Something mild is fine."[break][break]

As she spoke, she looked around for a seat for herself. She was not going to spend the whole appointment standing.

Bellamy began his work, gently putting the purrloin in the washing sink, rubbing underneath it's chin with a smile before getting the shampoo and gently massaging into its beautiful coat of fur. After a few minutes of lathering, he took the rinser and gently washed away the soap.

Following that he added some conditioner and then repeated the rinsing. After that he took a soft, fluffy, towel courtesy of his assistant, Rose - and dry rubbed the pokemon after setting it on the table.

The cat pokemon shook itself for a moment but was genuinely well-behaved. Following that the Pokemon Groomer pulled out a blowdryer on a lower setting to gently dry it's fur. Before getting a brush and comb to begin the process of tidying up the pokemon. Still focused on grooming the cat pokemon the young man answered the pokemon's owner with a smile.

"Perhaps something floral like our lilac du perfume? Or perhaps something a bit sweeter, like our Vanille Valley? Both are light and gentle and smell wonderful!" After inquiring, Bellamy went back to focusing on the Purrloin's grooming. Brushing out the undercoat to get rid of some of the shedding. While trimming some of the hair that grew a bit wild.

"You raised a beautiful Purrloin. Their coat is soft and healthy, and their temperament is sociable." Making small talk as he continued his work was a way to help pass time. He's done this so many times before and sometimes chatting to someone who wasn't his co-worker was nice.

Yumi took a moment to weigh the options. "Let's go with the lilac. It will coordinate well with Itazura's fur color."[break][break]

Sitting back in the very basic, somewhat uncomfortable chair she found, she took out her phone and began scrolling through her social media, checking notifications and messages from fans. However, she regularly glanced over to watch the man work. He worked thoroughly and carefully, and was gentle with her Purrloin.[break][break]

Naturally, that wasn't something that should impress her. It was the bare minimum, and if a groomer couldn't meet it, they shouldn't even be in business.[break][break]

"Of course he's beautiful," Yumi said idly as she rejected a bunch of YouTube comments from her approval queue. "I hold all of my Pokémon to a high standard of beauty. I can't be seen with unhealthy, untidy creatures."[break][break]

She glanced over once more to see how far along the man was with the grooming.

Hm, this woman was haughty but not annoying. If anything she was rather pleasant compare to most rich snobs he'd dealt with. He was nearly done he just had to trim the pokemon's claws and grinch feet as he called them and then add the perfume. Trimming the fur around the paws and clipping the overly long claws he finished up by cleaning its ears, scratching its chin as it purred.

And adding a few puffs of the soft, gentle, lilac-scented perfume to the purrloin. "There! All done!" He expressed happily. Turning to Yumi Hasegawa he gave a kind smile. "Your Purrloin is looking absolutely purrrfect~" He held back a smirk before moving to let the woman reunite with her pokemon. "Now, we just have to finish the transactions and you can be on your way!"

As soon as the man declared he was finished, Yumi stood from her chair. "I'll be the judge of that," she said sharply, joining him at the work table to examine Itazura.[break][break]

Much to her surprise, the Purrloin was, in fact, very well groomed. Perhaps the quality was not as good as back in Johto, but the prices were exceptionally low at Flippers and Clippers. Commoner levels of low.[break][break]

The work would suffice, all things considered. Yumi nodded once before gathering Itazura up in her arms. The Purrloin meowed with contentment, and that was good enough for his owner.[break][break]

"How much?" she asked, following the man to the register and taking out her purse.

Giving his patent smile he rang up the price. "100 PD. Thank you, and I hope you have a wonderful day!" Internally Bellamy just wanted this to be over, he was already getting tired of talking to this woman as her demeanor lowered his mood significantly. "I hope we can do business again, Miss Yumi Hasegawa!" With that, his duty was done, and he was ready to take on one more customer before closing up shop for the day. And then... His "graveyard shift" job began...
