skuntank waddles forward and is interrupted by an oshawott's HYDRO PUMP. with wet fur, it glares back at the water-type, then lunges to FURY SWIPE at it until it disappears into a pokeball.[break][break]

“Hope you’re ready for this,” he warns the shinx, whose attention deviates for a moment despite the chiding.[break][break]

A strange looking duck sort of Pokémon waddled out, and Noodle chases it with little zaps of SPARKS singeing its tail feathers until Lam pulls it away with the magnetism of a pokeball.[break][break]

“Alright, if you’ll focus now,” he says with a scoff of laughter as his shinx trots forward again, finally setting his sights back on the skuntank.[break][break]

Time to get whooped, yeah?[break][break]

“Start off with WILD CHARGE.” For a little guy, the shinx is quick—electricity crackles around him as he barrels forward, darting to the side at the last moment and aiming for the skuntank’a flank.

pulled away by the duck as well, theo wonders what exactly it is. he assumes it's from paldea given how he's not seen one before, and he also assumes it's a water-type due to its aqua colors. he decides he wants one.[break][break]

until then, he turns back to the battle.[break][break]

"we're ready."[break][break]

his skuntank tanks (hehe) the WILD CHARGE, feeling numbness from the electricity and returns an immediate barrage of FURY SWIPES.

With the weird little duck (it truly does not hold a candle to psyduck, let’s be real,) secured in a pokeball, Lam finds his curiosity temporarily sated. It’ll return later when he has the chance to properly study the additions to his pokedex.[break][break]

For now, though, there’s a more immediate task at hand.[break][break]

Now that they’re actually engaged in the battle itself, his shinx finally has some sense to pay attention. The araquanid that hovers on the fringes of the path is completely ignored.[break][break]

The skuntank retaliates, lumbering forward with a fury of slashes from powerful claws. Tiny and nimble, Noodle ducks the first, but the second swipe catches his hindleg, and the third his side. Skittering back with a howl, he keeps his distance this time as he whirls and kicks up a heavy, pulsing THUNDERWAVE aimed at locking up the larger pokemon’s limbs.

no, the weird little duck does not even begin to compare to psyduck, but it is cute in its own way. theo will certainly appreciate his when he inevitably runs into one again.[break][break]

the THUNDERWAVE connects, causing skuntank's limbs to seize up. it remains standing but unable to do much this round but glare at the little shinx. what a pesky little thing.[break][break]

taking a berry out of his pocket, theo shows it to a wild seadra off to the side, and when it nods, he tosses the berry at it only to quickly toss a pokeball as well which catches it off guard.

Lam’s brows shoot up as his shinx manages to land his second hit, rendering the skuntank temporarily immobile. Is he doing better than expected? No way. It’s a bit like he expects a rug to suddenly be pulled out from under him.“Keep going!” he encourages.[BREAK][break]

Emboldened, the shinx charges up again, darting forward wrapped in electricity to strike a passing blow before retreating. His altaria is not expecting nor does she wish to be transferred from the VOLT SWITCH because this is not her fight.[break][break]

But Mallow flutters forward all the same, perching in position and leaving behind the nearby wartortle she’d been eyeing with curiosity.

the VOLT SWITCH connects, switching out their opponents as the skuntank now eyes the altaria that flutters forward. it's not sure if this is a better matchup but it'll fight it all the same.[break][break]

struggling against its PARALYSIS, the POISON GAS it spits out is aimed poorly. it misses the altaria and floats over to the wartortle instead.[break][break]

from afar, theo's pokeball finds it.[break][break]

skuntank's KEEN EYE is for nothing this round.

Mallow lifts into the air, in a bid to make targeting her more difficult. A trilling song is leveled at the skuntank, a DISARMING VOICE so serene it should impact the skunker without a doubt.[break][break]

Though the altaria should have remained on the ground, perhaps.[break][break]

An aerodactyl swooping through at the wrong moment, catches the bulk of the attack, rendering its effect on the skuntank significantly reduced, if effective at all.[break][break]

It twists in the air as it begins to fall in a tangle of wings and Lam tosses a pokeball out at it to clear it out of the way.

the skuntank vibrates in response to the DISARMING VOICE, though it does not do so for very long before the attack subsides. oddly enough, the attack is what helps its muscles relax enough to fight back against the PARALYSIS.[break][break]

reaching deep to find its breakfast, skuntank BELCHES at the altaria.[break][break]

meanwhile, theo walks off to the side to pluck a berry off a tree. he holds it up to the vivillon, offering it along with a pokeball. to his surprise, it accepts his condition.
