There were a lot of people Isaac was willing to give a chance to on their own merits. There were more Isaac willing to give a chance to on the trust of others. But the council? The guys running this whole show? "If the Silphs and their pet politicians are gonna try and take your throat, they're gonna have to get through me first." A mix of panic and anger filled Isaac's voice at the idea of this kid getting hurt for daring not to fall in lock-step with one faction.[break][break]

If only that was what Rosmontis wanted. The gym leader's tiny hand snatched up Isaac's own, and a pleading frown spread across her face. For someone so eager to throw himself into the line of fire for his loved ones, they sure seemed to rather he wouldn't.[break][break]

He sighed, his smile taking a turn for the sorrowful. "Easier said than done, when you're as tangled up in the mess as I am." Right. Outside of what was written on Isaac's face, she didn't know, did she? "Tried to do what was expected of me, and I lost a beloved Pokemon for it. Tried to do what was right, and, well. You can see how that went."[break][break]

Maybe that should've been a sign to follow Rosmontis' advice and step away from it all. Yet Isaac knew his heart would never be able to take it. "I promise. I'll take care of myself best I can, much as I'm able to. I'm not gonna let this happen again. I promise." If he was being honest, Isaac didn't even think he could afford to.[break][break]

He sighed, smiling wearily towards the gym leader. "But the same goes to you, okay? I don't want to see you get hurt. And if there's ever anything I can do to stop it . . ."[break][break]

Right. Right. They needed to focus. "Yeah. You're right. There are some people I've been meaning to talk to anyway that might be able to help me with the other two. But Melody Miro is a mystery to me. I . . . do you think you could reach out to her? Let her know that I'm hoping to meet? If she's as understanding as Eris says, maybe there's a chance."[break][break]

He had walked a long, winding, and treacherous road to get this far. Now it was time to take a step off and hope he could walk on air.

THEO BECKETT had found out, after all. In a perfect world, he'd figure that Mesprit isn't worth anything and remain silent on the matter. But given the power that the lake guardian had showed, she figures that she might have to start watching her back.[break][break]

"I can take care of myself. I also have people that I can call for help." There's a small bit of laughter that she lets out, mixed with both nerves and confidence in how reliable they can be. Still, being asked to contact Melody Miro... She could probably do it under the guise of Rosmontis to avoid those awkward conversations with the idol.[break][break]

"Sure thing. I'll let you know as soon as I get a response from her."

Call it past experience at work, but control freaks like that got Isaac's hackles raised sky-high. Still, he kept most of his frustrations well. Rosmontis would know the League better than he did, and she already had her healthy share of suspicions about them. He didn't need to go chasing at windmills on her unnecessary behalf.[break][break]

After all. She was right. She could take care of herself. "I'd say that doesn't stop you from worrying about me. But, uh. I can see why you've got some doubts there." It was ironic. The injury that cost him his eye was one of the few things he didn't regret. Yet, nonetheless, it felt like a symbol of all the trouble he had brought upon himself himself.[break][break]

It also felt like a symbol of how much he had pushed himself through. Life laid him low, and he forced himself back to his feet. Not even grievous bodily harm could make him stop. It was a blessing. It was a curse. But it was just who Isaac was, and he was starting to realize how hard it would be to change.[break][break]

He was starting to realize that he didn't even want to change. For the first time, he was happy being Isaac. Even if this was his toll.[break][break]

"Still, I getcha. I'll be here if you need, but til then? Well, I trust you." She sounded nervous. The least Isaac could do was show he had confidence in her. "Thanks again for helping me set all this up. Whichever way this goes, I'm sure gonna be learning something, huh?"
