He should not be out here with a broken ankle.[break][break]

He's meant to be at home, recovering. But the strange new landscape is not far from Petalburg, and Wren sort of sneaks out of his childhood home to go see what's up with it.[break][break]

So maybe his foot is in a cast, with a medical boot on it over that, but his gogoat is sturdy and reliable, and can carry him the distance without tiring. His backpack is a bit heavier than normal, though. Juno is in there per, usual, but curled up with Salandit. He's been unable to give the little lizard back to Levy Alinsky . He hasn't even heard from Levy.[break][break]

Maybe that's why he's so eager to go somewhere. Do something. Because sitting at home, he's left to climb the walls in the turmoil of his emotions. Alongside Basil, his umbreon keeps a steady pace as they all travel in silence - an odd thing for Wren, who is normally chatty, even with his pokemon.

cold temperaments have never bothered him much but it is slightly odd to be experiencing it in a region usually known for its warm weather.[break][break]

similar to other people, theo has decided not to walk today, though his reasoning has nothing to do with an injury. he's simply not feeling like it.[break][break]

so, he finds himself atop his red gyarados, gaze cast to their surroundings as it slithers along the silent icelands, exploring.

As they wander, an avalugg lifts up from the ground, having been hunkered down and hidden against the vast expanse of white. It nearly uproots Basil, and his hoofbeats trot backward as Stella surges forward instead - looking to deter the avalugg from taking any sort of offensive by halting it with a disorienting CONFUSE RAY.[break][break]

Addled, it wanders off and they are free to proceed.[break][break]

However, they soon find themselves in the shadow of an even larger pokemon. It's a bit strange to see the bright red gyarados out of water, and its scales are a harsh contrast against the stark landscape. Shielding his eyes, Wren looks up, wondering if they will have to try warding off this one as well. But soon, he's pretty sure he can make out the outline of another person astride the behemoth.[break][break]

"Oh, hello!" he calls up as he lifts the same hand that had been over his head. Just to show that he's safe and is no threat. Though maybe the medical boot and cast on his foot gives that away.

it does not take them long to run into company. gyarados slithers to a halt, rising to cast its shadow upon the stranger and their gogoat.[break][break]

"hello! one moment."[break][break]

still on gyarados' back, theo watches a FLAMETHROWER pours from the water-type's maws. flames lick at the CONFUSED avalugg, hurting it enough for a pokeball to consume it.[break][break]

after, he turns back to the stranger, gyarados now lowering so that they're somewhat eye level.[break][break]

"hello. are you out exploring the icelands?"

“Gotcha!” Wren waves a hand dismissively, watching the way the stranger takes on the avalugg as well.[break][break]

A forretress drifts over, confused by the commotion. If he’d had Jupiter along with him, Wren would have sent the vaporeon forward with a blast of AURORA BEAM, bright like the aurora borealis itself.[break][break]

Instead, Stella sends it spinning away with the pitched, aural energy of a DARK PULSE, instead.[break][break]

Wren glances back up at the man, who has now lowered down some. “Yep! I was..” his brows furrow as he looks down at the big boot on his foot, “tired of sitting at home.”[break][break]

Probably a little risky, exploring a newish area like this, but some of his caution is faded as of late.

theo slides off his gyarados when he realizes another battle is about to happen. just in time, too, as the crabominable's POWER UP PUNCH smacks into gyarados. a FLAMETHROWER is all that's really needed, however, before the ice-type disappears into a pokeball.[break][break]

it's hard not to notice the big boot around the stranger's foot and though there's no real need to pry, he does so naturally, coming from a place of curiosity.[break][break]

Wren’s an awful liar. So it feels a bit pointless to do anything but skirt around the whole truth and hope that this stranger accepts the general answer.[break][break]

He definitely doesn’t need to know that he helped a Rocket and they broke his foot in turn.[break][break]

A strange MIST cast by an amaura filters around them, but his umbreon cuts through it in a dark blur, barreling into the other pokemon in a QUICK ATTACK.[break][break]

them being at littleroot narrows it down, really, as the town had mostly been evacuated prior to the battle.[break][break]

the weavile's QUICK ATTACK brings it right to theo where it attempts to PICKPOCKET the underboss. instead, it accidentally taps an empty pokeball, getting sucked in and caught moments later.[break][break]

Wren nods because there’s really nothing else to say. Despite his habit of nervous babbling, he finds himself reticent on the subject in the presence of this newcomer.[break][break]

A cubchoo waddles closer out of curiosity. Wren’s own intrigue is piqued as he stares down at it from his perch. It’s almost a comedic sight—looking at how tiny the bear looks next to the other man’s massive, ruby gyarados.[break][break]

He makes no moves, though, and instead focuses on the question.[break][break]

“Yep, that’s me.” Not even just a rookie or cadet now, but a fully-fledged ranger. Crazy, really. “I was curious about all of this.” His arm sweeps out toward the icy expanse.
