"Alright, that's class folks!" August smiled, clapping his hands together. "Great job everyone! Wonderful work, I'll see you in two weeks!" Tonight was the beginning of the Lazy Smeargle Studio beginner's class; a hellish slog of teaching people who had no skill in the very basics of an artform that years to truly master. It was mildly loathsome work, but it helped pay the bills. August counted his lucky stars as the last few stragglers found their way out of the store.

"Alright, Camille... time to clean up!" The man called, rousing a sleeping Smeargle from his spot behind the counter. The pokemon waddled out from behind the counter with a yawn and shook its head, causing the older man to roll his eyes. "You're truly worthy of being the mascot of the shop..." The man mused as he began to stack the assembled chairs in a supply closet.

August paused momentarily and glanced at his watch. "The night is still young, mh? Perhaps I'll go pick up some takeout for us, wouldn't that be nice?" He asked, glancing over toward the counter for his Smeargle- who'd promptly slipped back into his bed located behind the counter. "You are incorrigible, Camille." He said, ambling over to begin his nightly routine of counting down his register.

Girard, who had made a career out of the buying and selling of rare goods, always made it his business to know where the various objects that passed through his pawn shop came from. Curiously, a painting had been sold to him recently that he had immediately identified as a forgery. However, it was a very good forgery, on par with the work of Seraphine D’aureville, though she did not necessarily forge art, only documents. This forgery was so impressive, in fact, that Girard had poured hours into researching its origin...and had stumbled upon the exceedingly talented August Black. How Girard had not heard of the man before was beyond him. Girard rarely overlooked such talent.[break][break]
Which is why the pawnbroker now stood in front of the Lazy Smeargle Studio, amused that such a...well, quaint little place, could be the home base for one of Hoenn's most talented forgers. As two young students, by the looks of it - Slateport U? - exited the building, Girard caught the door as it was closing and slid inside.[break][break]
"Good evening," He greeted pleasantly, spying a middle aged man by the front desk, the paint-brush tail of a sleepy Smeargle poking out from behind it. "Are you, by any chance, August Black?"

Though August would never openly admit it, the routine of owning a shop was nice. It spared him the monotony of spending all day in the workshop, waiting for the perfect opportunities to create a beautiful forgery. It was the minute tasks that brought little sparks of joy, like the act of counting the cash in the register and preparing inventory lists. It was important to keep moving- to keep surviving, and in a way, this ritual helped do that.

While in the midst of his nightly ritual, August had failed to hear the man slip inside. The voice of @girard startled him slightly, he’d clearly been absorbed in his task and the sleepy little smeargle was of no help warning him of a guest. “Aah, good evening… I am August Black. I apologize, however, I’m in the process of closing down. Is there… something I can do for you?”

The bespectacled man offered a soft smile, but there was a hint of wariness in his voice. It wasn’t obscenely late, but that didn’t necessarily make August feel any less worried. “I do open again at eight in the morning if you’re looking to shop or wanting to discuss lessons, sir.”
