The conversation deviates away from Levy and why Wren was in the sinkhole willingly—something he is relieved about. It’s held close to his chest, tender and bruised. He not quite ready to examine it in cold morning daylight just yet.[break][break]

Wren’s brows climb at the reaction— no matter what tone it pulls, a smile is a smile. So he’ll call it a win in his book, no matter what ~~a fuddy duddy like~~ Elijah thinks.[break][break]

If he could puff up more like a threatened minccino, he would. But alas, that’s not wholly possible, and his defiant haughtiness shifts into stubborn determination anyway.[break][break]

“Yeh! I am, old man!” Later, he will be mortified at himself for calling the other old when really, he isn’t all that old at all. “It’s a deal.”[break][break]

What wren is signing himself up for, he doesn’t know. And that should be enough to cause him some caution. But he sticks his hand out toward Elijah anyway, ready to shake on it.

elijah snorts. the absolute gall of this one to call him old. to accept the bait. to force elijah into actually constructing some kind of operation that is simultaneously not a waste of his time and dangerous enough to make him look like a proper menace.[break][break]

if wren is a minccino, then elijah is a half-asleep victreebel unaware of its prey squirming on its lip.[break][break]

then again, the apothecary has committed some insidious things. some on his own. more by command. he takes wren's hand and shakes it.[break][break]
