Marza glared down at the chewtle with a mingled expression of disdain and expectation as she waited for THEO BECKETT . In response, the chewtle stared back, dopey and somehow equally displeased to be there. Honestly, she had no idea why fern delaney had given her this thing. Maybe it was a joke gift, that’d make sense. Evolve already.

A familiar voice pulled her attention up, promptly returning the sad excuse for a turtle back into its pokeball. “Sir.” She knew well enough by the privacy alone that this wasn’t an exchange of niceties, still she smirked at that, “Well enough.”

though not too different in age, years spent in a position of management have aged him, worn him down to what some may describe as weathered. but with a proper skincare routine, his appearance has recovered since arriving in hoenn.[break][break]

he may even look fresh, as though it were somehow possible.[break][break]

skipping the niceties, he jumps straight to business.[break][break]

"what are your thoughts on hoenn?"

They were both rough around the edges, hewn from the same cloth. Maybe that was why respect was easily earned by him; she was no stranger in that. To a slight extent, he reminded her of her father, they had the same eyes. Maybe Marza was trading one devil for another, but there was a key difference with THEO BECKETT that made her respect him rather than fear him.

“On Hoenn as a whole, or Rocket?” She replied simply, a minute pause before shrugging. “I’ve traveled a lot and I’ve stayed in Hoenn out of convenience, not preference. It's not... ideal.”

but they'll get there. they have seemingly all the time in the world to talk and discuss and reminisce. it is a luxury not many in their positions have, but one crafted out of years of dedication and loyalty.[break][break]

She nodded at that, considering the question with more depth than before. Though she should have assumed that Theo wouldn't ask it without purpose.

"Whenever I'm in Hoenn I feel... unsatisfied." She said with a shrug, "Ideal? I'm a person that needs purpose. I was trained to identify and value strength above all else. If I cannot fight, then I'm useless and I hate that above all else. Here, I feel useless." That wasn't to say always, of course, but this wasn't a discussion of the events of meteno or other such assaults.

he says simply, quick to follow up with why he had sought her out in the first place.[break][break]

"you and i come from an era once thought to have been forgotten. but meteno, littleroot, pyre, they prove that there is a need for people like us. not only will we push team rocket's agenda, but we will succeed in doing so where others couldn't."[break][break]

"it is time for that era to return, wouldn't you agree?"

There was no way of knowing exactly what they'd talk about, but this was admittedly not what she'd been expecting. Though she was glad that Theo had her likeness for getting straight to the point, even if a little waywardly so in the beginning.

"There's a lot of people that wouldn't agree with that sentiment, you know." She had never been enthralled by the quieter types. The scientific and the espionage fields of Rocket mattered very little to her.

"As for me... however, I will follow you. If that's what you're asking."

resistance is to be expected both internally and externally. it's a factor that has been carefully considered and it's one he has decided does not matter as much as it used to.[break][break]

"they don't have to agree. they simply have to listen and obey."[break][break]

or else they'd risk their position and standing, and from experience, people often pick what is better suited for their survival.[break][break]

Marza wasn't above the mentality of get in line or get out of the way, it was really the only way she processed things for herself. The brutality of things didn't bother her, considering she'd gotten far less from her own father. This seemed somewhat kinder even.

She did have to wonder exactly what Theo got out of this, in the end. Was he vying for Declan's position or was he simply interested in making sure Rocket evolved with the rest of the world? She realized her decision in this might have been rushed, but she stood by her values and that was really all that mattered. If anything she was loyal to Theo and had no reason not to be.

Beast. That, however, surprised her. It was frankly annoying because she didn't like being obviously caught off guard. "Beast?" She paused, brows furrowing for a moment. She'd been in Rocket longer than most of the current beasts had been alive, which was saying a lot. It wasn't like her ambitions lacked in that regard. She tipped her head. "Thank you, sir. I won't let you down."

with the longest tenure out of all the current beasts, it only makes sense for her to be elevated into the position. natural, even. it had been an oversight from him and the others that it had taken this long.[break][break]
